Hi i have finally decided to take the plunge and get qualified and do my acrylic nail course. I have been doing my own nails and friends and family for 2-3 years. I have been using products from sallys but would rather use one well known good product.
I would really would like to do the cnd course but cant justify the cost as im a single mum with 4 kids!!! Any other ideas? How else could i get a recognised qualification? I have looked at distance learning etc but then i stuck with where could i buy products? Any help advice guidance would be gratefully recieved.

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you have to spend? Can pm if you like i know a lot of places offering good training but pointless me listing them all if they're out of your price range lol.xx

how old r the kids?X

I have to say that although i truly do appreciate your circumstances....the training with CND is actually great value for money.....and 100% excellent training.

I was skint when i wanted to do my training too...its a crappy feeling when you are feeling so eager and determined but money id getting in the way of your dreams....if i was you i would wait and save...save for the course you want...if you settle for something else based purely on price...you might end up having to pay out twice because the training wasn't up to much.

Your dreams will still be there for you in 6 months time...and so will Creative..

The training and support you would get from CND would be second to none, if you can afford it, it would be well worth the money. I only wish I could train with them but with being in NI its not really possible xxx

My kids are 1,3,6 & 9 im just waiting for a house sale to go through which will hopefully fund my course. I looked into a course in plymouth, website is swantips i think its about 450 whereas cnd is nearly twice that is it worth the extra? will i need full training as the prep, anotomy, health & safety etc i have home studied etc so feel i could pass an exam. From what i have read i will have to do the full training as to do a conversion course u have to show a certificate?
Thanks Nads

Oh forgot the lady that runs the course i mentioned used to be cnd and converted to ?? name escapes me lol. Apprently she is highly regarding in these parts.

I did a course with Stonebridge (Distance Learning) but ended up going to college too, so spent twice as much because you really do need a tutor to guide you. If i'm being honest, go with a reputable company or go to college - i did mine at night school. (i got 3 kids, so don't let that stop you!! xxx)

Just checked and its entity products. cost £454

The only night school they offer is 2 nights a week 6-9 so would be hard to get a sitter for that. I have a essential hand trainer and like i said have been doing my own and friends nails. Wanted a intensive course really!!

NSI is a huge name to go with and there training is fab!

Costs roughly £500 give or take a few pounds after VAT

Hi there, just to let you know that the Creative l&p course is only about 100 more than the course you have been quoted for. Imho it is well worth saving the extra up, as you may end up paying out more in the long run. Good luck with your choices and I hope this helps

Signature5 Foundation Course

I think you've been misinformed re the costings for Creative education!

Contact Sweetsquared direct for their training folio so that you have all of the details to hand: 0845 210 6060

EZ Flow do courses which are free-you just buy the kits. They are also a very reputable company so maybe you could contact them

Is that for a Foundation course or a Conversion?

Just wondering as I know other companies do the same for conversion courses but not for foundation courses as they last much longer and involve more indepth training (iykwim).

Have you contacted your local college - they sometimes do funding for NVQs? But that would possibly lead to having to pay for childcare or something?

hi, i don't know your circumstances, but I got a grant from my local council. there are lots of grants out there, people just don't know about them.
contact your local council and check to see if they do education grants. there are usually stipulations, but you might fit in the right category.
also have a look at martin lewis's money tips page for grants. there are ideas and links to places that might be right for you.
the other thing to do would be to contact your local sure start place, i don't know if they are called that UK wide, but here its sure start that works with families to give help, offer advice and support. they might know of something.
and finally, contact business link. my local place specialises in getting mothers (single or otherwise) back into work, becoming self employed.

good luck with this and i hope that you find the way to doing an amazing course! xxx

after playing for 2-3 years I am sure you realise the value of doing nails.

Now all you have to do is value respected training to gain some self respect.

Yep my word de jour (my French is bad) is respect, and you have to pay something for it ..... Creative has a brilliant name worldwide, so that would be my first point of call ..... obviously you are genuinely interested.

Training with Creative will set you apart from the many backyard techs wanting a cheaper alternative.

Your clients will respect you for it.

Sandi is correct ... someone has badly misinformed you re the cost of the CND Foundation course. contact the people who know 08452106060 Sweet Squared (the home of CND in the UK) all course booking are done through them and they will both send you information and answer all questions personally by phone. Apart from the top notch education they offer, it is the only way to be able to purchase the fab CND products.

Hi,

I am in a similar situation to you, single mum of 4 kids 2-10 years :wink2: I started training with Essential nails to get a feel for being a nail tech and now my house has sold I have enrolled on an OPI Complete Foundation Course it's alot of money but covers gel and acrylics and sa great kit and insurance.

My course runs on Sundays over 8 weeks. I really wanted to do the CND course but was unable to find models during the week and childcare for a block of time. Lots of places do weekend courses which may be an easier option for you?

Good luck x

They do beginners courses and progression courses and conversion courses.
I know the conversion course you only pay for the kit. Also the 4 day beginners gel course you only pay for the kit too.
