 I am sure this has been asked before but for some reason the search on my computer is not working, so I'm sorry if I am repeating an old thread.

We have a client who wants a mother of pearl gel colour on her nails and the one we have is not right (clients opinion). She wants the colour I have in one of my jessica polishes. One of my therapists saig that we could gel them and then paint over the top if she wanted the gel and that specific colour. However the client was not convinced by this. So my question for you all is Could we do a gel base, paint with polish and gel over the top? Has anyone tried this?

I would appreciate your honest opinions.

No.....it won't really work. Gel won't bond to the smooth surface of the polish. Gel only adheres to a slightly roughened surface (with a 180 grit file) or to the inhibition (tacky) layer of gel.

Could you not just apply the polish on top of the finished nail ?

That is what we wanted to do but the client says it will not last as long.

Thank you for the link, very interesting.

Hi, yes Ive also heard you can mix nail enamel with clear gel, never tried it though! xx

I have tried it and it works brilliantly! I scoop out some clear gel and put it on a form, drop 2 drops of polish into it - mix it up and add 2 polish thin layers of the new colored gel on the clients nails. If she wants it deeper, add a few more layers - I always flash cure the product for 7 seconds in between layers - it looks beautiful!

I did try to add 3 drops in once - but the polish started to dry and it made a mess of the gel - but I have had absolutely no problems using 2 drops of polish and my clients are very, very happy and it it lasts just as gel normally would. You can also get a little retail sale out of it by selling her the polish to touch up her new growth area!

we stock a mother of pearl colour gel if that helps

Hi,

I did an experiment on my sisters nails not too long ago where I've done a base coat of gel and polished, then coated with gel to finish....let me tell you, its been 6 weeks, and the gel has not come off one single nail! I would of thought it would have peeled off within a couple of days, but it hasnt, and was a suprise to me, seeing as my sister works in the hospitality industry, and always has her hands in water etc!

I think after my experiment, I wouldnt try it again, as Im still a little bit iffy about it! Instead I would try mixing afew drops of polish into clear gel!

I found that I can use top gel on the polish ONLY if I draw an easy design with a few little line with polish. The method is: the polish will drying about a few hours. If you apply gel on the top, it will newer dry. Or if you wait untill the polish is totally dry, you will see another problem: becouse the polish dries for a shiny surface -and you cannot apply gel to a shiny surface. So my opinion is: no work together.
