So I just came home from a client who called me about removing extensions. These extensions were not put in by me but I am quite experienced and know how to remove most glues but this what out of this world!

She had gone to a hair extension salon in London that I thought was quite a reputable one and their website is fab so really did not expect this. She had had them in for 3 months and basically there was no hair left just the glue.

The glue was extremely soft, like you could mould it almost like melted wax. Normally when I use my Balmain gun they just dissolve and slide ride out but this did not really dissolve it just kind of melted and went all over the hair. Her hair and my fingers were so sticky! I had never seen anything like it, it felt like gum!!! I basically could just not get the glue out and it just went all over the hair.

At this point I was getting really concerned, which I never do, as the glue was no longer in blobs, but it was all over the hair. Then she told me that her extensionist had taken one out at the salon and she just put leave in conditioner on it???? I mean, my bonds would never break down with just leave in conditioner. So she brought hers down and sure enough this worked much better than any of my removers and helped get it out (barely).

It took 2 hours and removal usually just takes me 1 hour. So I am wondering what kind of glue this is??? I mostly want to know because I would NEVER EVER want to touch that or put it in a persons hair it was just awful. All the hair had shed out and they were sooo soft. I had not seen anything like it ever and I have been doing this for a long time. They were an amber colour as well.

The girl said the extensionist used a glue gun and loose hair. I almost feel like telling her how bad of a job she did and that she cant use this glue but don't know if it is in my place to do so. However I would want to know! This is a salon specialising in extensions as well. They had not even given any aftercare or any instructions!!!!!

Sorry for long post but I really have no idea what this glue was and I really want to know.

Sounds exactly like the glue in my hair and yes I am very concearned. What the hell do you thet think they are using!! I've noticed this glue in my hair is far more difficult thany any preboned extensions I've had in. I say NEVER NEVER EVER using my trainer hair again, she will be getting a lawyers letter as I want compensation for me for clients if there hair turns out like mine! Not happy at all. Now I've been put off doing prebonded hair extensions now x

I went to a lady recently to remove some botched extensions and this was exactly like that only I actually slid them out the hair without putting anything on!! I was gobsmacked!! Would love to know what this is, sounds like eBay hair to me!! X

All I know is this is a salon claiming to be experts in hair extensions. They say they have their own method but the lady said it was a glue gun and loose hair. But honestly this was awful! And there was no hair left in the bonds either! I do almost feel like writing her and saying she can't put this **** in people's hair.

That's awful!! Poor woman, it disgusts me that salons and also some mobile extensionists con clueless people like this instead of educating them and providing a good, proper service!! I'm only new to the world of extensions and have loads to learn but I would never put s@!t like that in someone's hair and feel happy wight myself!! X

I'm just thinking she might not know?? Apparently it is a new salon. I had come across their website before and it looks so professional I wanted to go there myself!! All the info on their website is really good and they claim to be experts in hair extensions. But honestly I have never seen anything like it it really concerned me. Seriously all these cowboys just opening a salon without any experience! And she took £200 for half a head too.

Yea maybe! God that's awful! Id ring and quiz them a little! X

I Will tomorrow it was so bad I could not believe it!

omg - im woundering if they are using glue gun glue not for extensions but like what u get for crafts! :S if it is i cant believe someone would use this on someones hair :O

I'm glad this thread was posted. this happened to me a while a go with a client asking me to remove someone elses extensions. my usual appointment for removal and a full set was meant to be in the same slot but OH NO this removal literally took me hours and I had to arrange a separate appointment fir the fitting.

obviously the customer was really disappointed but understood that it was not my extensions that I was removing I just felt embarrassed more than anything as I'd never come across this glue before I felt it made me look incompetent.

in the end the conditioner got the rest of the residue out.

she was not in touch with the previous extensionist so their was no way for me to ask what had been used......

I'll be interested if anyone finds out!

I know that's how I was feeling! Incompetent as I should know how to take this out but this was not normal.

I find that because a lot of people are quite clueless on extensions and don't know much about it, especially of they have never had them in before, and don't really know what to expect. So these so called extensionists can literally tell them
Anything and it angers me that they take advantage of clueless clients like this! I had another client who had hair that shredded like crazy and she went back and complained to salon and the extensionist said "it's supposed to do this so it mixes more naturally with your thin hair". Eh?

The client said she loved it when first in. There was literally less than 15 g hair left and most bonds had no hair in it at all. Since it was the first time I guess she didn't know what to expect. After 3 months obviously some shedding have occurred but I always have lots of hair left.

This proves more and more the importance of research and finding a qualified and competent extensionist as well as consulting with them.

So if I call or email what should I say geeks?

Also I took some that had some
Hair left in them to analyse the glue. Also this is what my tail comb looked after!! I mean ridiculous it was so sticky and you can see the rubbery glue in it. She said she say and moulded it sometimes, I mean mine are so hard it's impossible to pick at even. Right in the bin for that one now!

I have also experienced this not so long ago. It literally took me 4 hours from start to finish to remove a full head of pre-bonded extensions! I can usually do a full removal in 1-1 1/2 hours!

Ok so I've just removed some extensions which I fitted from an apparent reputable supplier of decent budget hair, mentioned on here various times and had this problem!!! Phoning them tomorrow to see what seems to be the problem!! X

Hi

If I'm honest I don't think it's your place to call them and criticise their products. I think it's down to the client. I understand you want to find out what they use so you never come across this problem again, but are they likely to tell you? It may be a product they realise is causing a problem and have discontinued it? It's difficult to judge as we don't know the ins and outs of the story etc. At least the client in question received an amazing service by yourself and is probably going to return xx

I'm actually rather happy to hear I am not the only hairdresser, that has been in this situation.

it took me two separate attempts, i started at 4pm, and stopped for a break as she told me her head was sore, i didnt leave her home until 11pm, it was unbelievable.

I tried the usual solution from balmain
I also tried heat (using my balmain applicator)
I tried conditioner

I also couldn't understand how the bonds where positioned.

my client had had them in for 2months, and I know myself hair grows, and the bonds move down the hair a little. however some had moved a little and some was almost on the ends of her hair.

I didnt want to doubt the client, and thought maybe they had been in longer than 2months until she shown me her appointment card & reciept.

it disgusts me, that people are entering this profession without a care in the world, and ruin peoples hair.

thank god for hairdressers like us, that are here to correct others mistakes.

i also agree with other posts, sounds like cheap, ebay style hair to be fair, or even a cheap bag of hair that been bonded with a typical 'glue gun'

a salon i worked in used the 'glue gun' method'
it has disaster written all over it!
