Just wanted to say a big thankyou to all you guys for the advice about the oil :) I thought rather than try it out initially on a client, i would try it on myself, being a big baby where waxing myself is concerned i applied just a little oil; it worked brilliantly, it wasn't half as painful as normal AND the wax strips don't get sticky, an absolutely wonderful tip. And please as a relatively new beauty therapist, you can touch me to suck eggs any day of the week

So glad to hear that you all liked the idea. I especially like using oil for brazilian waxing... both male and female. But I have used Oil for quite some time now, and I'll never go back.

I had a client in recently that brought a friend in with her to get waxed, and this girl just recently graduated the esthetics program. I was shocked to learn that they are teaching them to put absolutely nothing on the skin prior to waxing. I asked her how many times they are ripping skin of clients... she said all of the time.... CRAZY!!!!

There is a very simple way to ensure that you never tear skin off of any client. OIL.... just make sure you always prep the skin with oil before waxing. I have waxed clients with pimples, scratches, psoriasis, eczema, on accutane and retinal, and still, never, not once, ripped any skin off. If you put oil on the area being waxed, then it acts as a barrier between the wax and the skin, so the wax only adheres to the hair.

I use hard wax, Ciripil and it uses a barrier oil. It is very gentle and very effective. It is excellent for sensitive skin and areas.

That is the craziest thing I've ever heard! She is definitly going to have problems in the future with tearing and taking off skin. Hopefully she changes her techniques!

Well... I figure the more incompentant waxers in my city, the more clients I gain :)

Can you tell me Is this a special oil you are using ? I use pre wax gel. I thought the oil would stop the wax from sticking to the skin can you give me some advice on this, it sounds much better?
Thanks

I use Perron Rigot jasmine oil. Wouldn't be without it now!
You do only need the teeny tinniest little bit though but so much better!

i keep having issues with skin being taken off (my own skin luckily), i am in college and when i waxed myself it happened and then again when someone else waxed me the skin was taken off patches on my leg... the pain....!
We are using only a 'pre wax treatment' by hive. Is this not supposed to prevent this from happening?
I think i will definately try something else though and see if i get on better with another product.

As has ben said, OIL OIL OIL, every time. Just a light covering.

Also, if this lady has just come back from a sun holiday, (yeah, I note that it was a few years ago that this thread started), then it's quite common for some tan to be removed, so it may have been just that.

Also, if you wax speedily and without keeping on going over the same areas, this won't happen. xxx

Kim, any particular oil you'd recommend?
I would like to start using oil and would need to buy quite a large bottle(s) of oil for use in our salon, as we do a lot of waxing.
Could I use a carrier oil eg grapeseed, sweet almond, something like that? or does it need to be something more specialised?

I recommend Perron Rigot, Jasmine Oil. However, you could use a tiny amount of any light oil. xxx
