Firstly, apologies if this has been covered somewhere, but I've been searching and haven't been able to find it.

I like this method, but I'm struggling with the apex. It seems that people regard swiping out the smile and applying the tip colour as the last stage? If that's the case, how do you manage to position you apex prior to swiping out the smile, please?

I am finding this bit puzzling and to do it after the application of the tip colour would surely mean filing off half the body of the nail, iykwim, <as it would be taking product over the tip again>, or winding up with an apex too near the smile line and, therefore in the wrong position, both for strength and appearance.

To add to this, if you were using something like a custom blend, it would make a right mess of you whites/colour tip and need to be filed off anyway! If you were to use clear to put an apex in, then you couldn't file off any slight irregularities where the two colours meet, as well. Oh, I know what I mean, even if nobody else does!

Hope I've explained this well enough for you to see my dilemma and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

Thanks, wish it was bigger, as I just want to see how he gets the cuticle and apex right in the one bead, ready for swiping the smile line. :)

When I do a reverse application to extend the nail bed, I do the nail bed in 2 zones. The first application is to put in the smile line and get it just right, making sure the where the first bead ends is flush to the nail, and then I do what would normally be a zone 3 application. I then sculpt out the tip.

If I need to add to the nail for structure then I use clear and it always files out just fine.

HTH.

What lovely comments:)

I love reverse application, brilliant smiles white whites
I sort of hold the finger downwards while applying the product so it can self level and give me a helping hand and then sweep in the smile line .

Ps sparkly bits would be fab if you did a tutorial on this babes :)
sorry to put you on the spot

When I do reverse application on my nails I apply the pink, get that right, then the white and then I cap with clear building in the apex at that point if it isn't quite how I want it using the two colours.

hi, when i do a reverse smile i put a form on extend the nail bed with my camouflage pink working with my brush backwards, then put my normal pink on then apply my white. hope that makes sense. great tutorial greg!!!!

I find that you "judge" the apex, whether you use one intial application or 2, you build it to the required height, shape off ....... then apply the white.

Then it's just a matter of tapering off with your file (or in youngnails case) a drill.

The beauty of this method is your smile line definition is defined by the pink (or base color), then you apply white (you can even be messy a bit over the pink) as you are gonna file it down to a crisp look, because it has been defined by the pink.

"Reverse" application is only defined as "reverse" if you were taught the other way intitially.:)

I usually apply my pinks using one ball method except when I do reverse i use 2 to get better apexs. I apply zone 2 leaving it thicker at the smile, cut out the shape quickly, apply zone 3 then refine smile line if needed. I apply my whites by just butting it up to zone 2.

Gemma gave great advice for CB/masking. apply a thin layer BEFORE reverse sculpting.
