Hi, new to this site, I've recently completed a spray tan course and purchased my gun and tent from Shadez Spray Tan. I'm having major problems with the gun. I don't know how to put it on the right setting, I've gone through the manual and sprayed 10 different people (changing the setting) and not one of them was happy with it. Luckily I have a Paint Sprayer which gives a lovely even tan but it is a Paint Sprayer and does use a lot of my tan. I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice asap as I have 2 girls lined for for their tan this week and I'm having second thoughts about doing it. I charged a girl for the first time ltwo weeks ago thinking I'd finally got it and I was sick when she came back to me, not happy at all. It had gone all patchy on her arms and legs... I've emailed the company I bought the gun from but haven't heard anything back so if any of you have any experience with it please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks a mil x

the shadez machine is superb, its just a case of playing with the settings to get a setting that you feel comfortable with. I have the machine set on medium and the nozzle opened a little way to give me a fine even spray - try using white card to get the setting right. I also would not use a paint sprayer hun, you can geat great results with the shadez machine and gun!
Weezie (another geek on here) uses a similar machine, and she helped me out no end when I first got my machine - pm her hun she is lovely! x

I can't find Weezie, I know I shouldn't be using the paint sprayer, I only bought that to practice with but at the minute it's working better then the Shadez one. My fault I know but I don't know what setting to have it on... You know where the minus sign is? How many turns have you got it towards plus? Might help. I've got someone to practice on tonight. Thanks for the replies, I hope I get it sorted soon too  x

I think **Tracey** used to have one of these machines, she may be able to help you, although I know she doesn't use it now.

hang on i will go and have a look. Once you've got it on the right setting you will be flying through those tans in no time! Also (and I dont want to this to sound horrid) take a look at your own spraying technique as this might help you too! :)

I know, god I thought it was me to begin with but when I'm using the paint sprayer the tan turns out perfect, honestly. It's my fault anyway not knowing what way to have the thing set up. Thanks a mil for your help...x

hey I have just had a look at mine, and I cannot count the marks as they are too tiny! I started with it right the way down on minus and with some solution in my cup, turned it up and sprayed little by little until i could cover a large white envelope finely and evenly. hope this helps x

I have my nozzle vertical and leave it that way all throughout my routine, some geeks change it, but I am happy with it like that :) If you're still struggling pm me your number and I will ring you and talk you through it hunx

Ok, thanks for that I'll give it a try tonight... Better then using people I suppose . Thanks again, I'll let you know if I sort it x

yeah just put some solution in your cup, even if you water it down a bit, and I used a white envelope that another company sent me some samples! It only took me a few mins, good luck petal x

Is it an A4 envelope that your using to do this hunni? By the way - cant get my tent folded back up haha!! I have printed out your directions and am gonna have another go tonight! xxx

yes i just used an a4 white jiffy bag! i am in tonight so if you get stuck and want me to ring you just pm me your number or i'll pm you mine - honestly petal you cant go wrong and i will help u all I can :)

Thanks for the positive feedback Sodabubble!

For the benefit of anyone else having problems:

You need to set the silver bit on the front of the gun so that it is vertical for spraying up and down the body.

Then set the spray level to medium on the machine.

Then turn the black plastic spray dial down so that when you squeeze the handle no spray is coming out. Then spray some couch roll slowly turning the black dial up until you get a light even spray, it doesn't take that long to get to the right setting but it depends on your solutions thickness, the runnier the solution the less you will need to turn the dial. Then you need to move the gun relatively quickly over the skin to make sure the spray is light, with no drips.

Once it is on the right strength it sprays like a dream.

When I spray a client I start on their back to make sure I have my speed (quite quick) and distance correct so that the spray is even with no drips, it should look instantly dry. Then at the end take the gun off and use the heat setting to dry x

see? This is why we love weezie! I think your instructions should be posted as a tutorial!

I changed form the paint sprayer and got so used to it. But I use the same one as shadez and at first I couldn't get the jist of it.

But after a few practices - it is actually beautiful to use.

You have to only spray with gentle pressure and it gives a fine mist rather than spray, so you can build up colour where needed.

Love it.

xx

Hey, well I tried the spray on an A4 piece of paper and it looked even but did my mams leg :) and it looked wet for a couple of mins after. Have I still got it on the wrong setting? Just thought I'd put it up here, might help someone else with the same problem x

Try spraying holding the gun further away from your client x

you also need to move quite quickly, well your spraying arm anyway, I dont mean run fast lol x
