Thanks very much for all the nice comments *blushes* :)

Post some pics so guys :D would love to see what you all do ;)

Hi Noreen,

Love your pics. Just wondered how you got started and if this is your full time job? xx

Fabulous pictures. Can I be cheeky and ask if anyone would mind pming me with some rough prices? I am in the middle of contacting local photographers etc and have no idea what I should be charging.

I started out as a model , from the age of 18 I've been working on photoshoots. The more I had my make up done professionally the more interested I got in make up. I decided to do a course and while on the course my make up teacher Debbie was offered a job on a shoot and couldn't attend so sent me along to do the make up , it was published in a local magazine supplement in the local paper , though that job I got my next job which turned out to be the cover of a national magazine. This led to many other editorials , so but the time I finished my course I had one cover and 4 or 5 editorials in national press (they were mainly the sun and the mirror). It is very rare in Ireland to do editorials for any money so just so you know I did all this for the exposure of getting my name out there.

99% of the photos I post here are from testing with photographers . Everyone trades their time in return for the photos. Generally speaking if you are paid for your time you are NOT permitted to use the photos for your portfolio. So in order to build a portfolio of your work you can trade your time with like minded individuals and come away hopefully with something you can use in your portfolio ( I have walked away with nothing on a few occasions so be careful who you choose to test with ) or you can pay a hair stylist , photographer and model to do your shoot and build your portfolio from there .

There is obviously more control on a shoot you pay for as you have the final say and of course you have to be willing to compromise when testing so everyone walks away with something they can use :)

I'm incredibly lucky that I had such a good start as this has undoubtably enabled me to test with a much higher calibre of photographer / model / hair etc but even though I've had just a good start it is still incredibly difficult :)

Paid work for me normally comes from brides , the odd photography workshop , the odd commercial job . Editorials simply don't pay.

Make up is not my full time job , there is simply not enough work but I do it for the love and not the money do I take jobs as and when they come :)

Hi guys. Loving this thread. Im currently studying beauty therapy but my heart lies with make up. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good highlighter? Preferably not a powder one? I've tried so many I've lost count but I just can't seem to find one that I like that has a really good glow about it. Help please :)

I'm not a MUA but have you tried Mac Prep + Prime. I bought my sister it for Christmas and it is good! I steal it now and again when I go out!

I also love prep and prime! I go through bottles of the stuff!

Looks lovely on the cheekbones before setting the foundation, also great mixed in with foundation if skin is looking a little dull or to pep up a mature skin.
I also use a little bit when doing bridal make up, on their decollage and neck, it gives a really nice glow. :) x

I trained at Liverpool Community college, about 6 years ago now! But tbh I picked up what I know now with experience & practice. They can only teach you so much at college, after that its down to you x

I think you mean the MAc strobe cream? I love this too and perfect for cheek bones or mixed with foundation x

Another vote for Strobe Cream! Prep & Prime is a primer not highlighter if you got mixed up x
