Hi All.

I heard something today and just want to know what you think or if you do the same.

A clients daughter had Calgel on her nails for a wedding and went back to have a soak off, the tech did the usual soak off with cotton wool and foil but then placed her hands under the uv lamp which was on ???

the warmth from the lamp helps speed up the soak off a little.
imo its faster if you use the hot water bowl method.

I wondered if there was enough heat from the lamps to be of any use to a soak off.

I must admit I've gone back to the hot water bain marie :), less faffing around imo !

some uv lamps seem to get warmer than others. ive used ones that have a polished metal base plate and that seems to conduct the heat quite a lot, but my lamp has a sort of flexible reflective silver foil base plate and it doesnt really warm up.
using the lamp to speed up soaks will take gel curing life from the bulbs so i dont think its very economical in the long run.
better to get a hot water bottle of one of the other methods id say.

I dont know what the odds are of anything happening.. but personally I would NEVER EVER contemplate putting anyone whose fingers were soaking in acetone... into anything electrical!..acetone is highly flammable as we all know and no way is it worth the risk!

Smart girl and right answer. Vapors can travel to a source of ignition ... recipe for disaster.

I have always wondered if after doing the foil wrap could I pop the hands into heated mittens would that be okay or would we still have the danger factor? Just thought it would speed up the process?

what if one leaked and softened the plastic of the mitts and then went through to the wires??

I can never understand why people use foil wrap on all nails in any case .. takes so much longer.

I invented the foil wrap system in my salon so that one or two nails could be soaking off while I could get on with my work on the other nails at the same time and not loose time. It was never meant as a way to soak ALL the nails .... the hot water/bain marie method is far quicker for removing all the nails at once.
