Hi...I really need help. I'm a Beauty specialist working from home and want to buy a spray tanning system. A lot of people are saying to buy the paint sprayer from earlex in argos (not the tanning machine) I don't know what to do. I can't afford any from salon suppliers just yet but really need to get one soon....please help!!! Can someone recommend a spray tan machine that wold be suitable for someone like me starting out.

Right number one!!!!! Are you serious????? A paint sprayer?? lol!!!
Steer clear of the paint sprayers and anything from Argos! You are a beauty professional, Argos screams, unprofessional.

Do the training and get a proper kit from a recognised Spray Tan company! I did my training with Sienna X, others are Tantrick, St.Tropez, Fake Bake etc etc etc.

If you cant afford it now, start saving up for it, dont cut corners! It will be worth it in the long run!

Excellent advise from Haley.... there are lots of competitive kits available on the market for people starting out in Spray Tanning. Stay clear of non professional machines, it will not be cost effective and you will not get a quality tan from such machines. Getting a good quality training and machine will get the results you need to build your business.

PM me if you want any details regarding Tantrick which is the Company I represent. Also do a search in the excellent search facilities on this site as there will be lots of information on spray tans and kits what has been discussed recently

It it is perfectly possible to set up with a professional company for under £2oo. There are plenty of companies out there you will put together an affordable package for you but please stay clear of Argos!!

I just started out with Couture at a great price Couture - tanning solutions and tan equipment

I have just discovered that the spray tanning machine I have (which I got from the company I trained with) is the Nuress one that apparently you can get in Argos:eek:. Could this be why I am finding it difficult to get my tanning right? (I do seem to have improved cos I have dine several ppl lately and they have been very pleased) Or am I just blaming my tools and being a bad workman? Do I need to get a new machine? Tell it to me straight, I can take it! :lol:Lol Lx

Basically my thoughts on the matter are, its like going to a nail salon and the nail tech whipping out a Rio set, not at all professional, to the client or the tech, not pro results nothing pro about it!

If you want a good finish youve got to search and get a good machine, good products.

Who did you train with?

You can go as cheap as you like but if you are serious about building your business why do that.Better to wait until you can afford the whole package ...decent equipment, solution, training etc.
Spray tanning is a very competitive market and if your equipment and solution is not delivering a good service you will not get recommendations and repeat business simple as that.
Dont ever think people dont know what you are using, trust me if you get something out that they usually spray their fencing with they will not be happy.

Who did you train with?
This is what concerns me! I trained with sienna so I assumed that training wih a professional company, I would get professional equipment! But it seems I haven't so what I want to know is what machine do I get?

My parents have said they will buy me a machine for my birthday (which is very kind of them considering I am going to be 32(!) and probably a bit past 'main birthday presents'!) so which machine would be best?

Which one do you guys recommend? I am working in the dark here, I have no idea which one would be best and I realise everyone has their favourite but what is the concesus?

I have seen the thread (poll) asking more or less the same question but I have no idea what HVLP actually means or any of the other terms used (can't think of any others right now!) and what is the difference with spray tan machine and airbrush? I want to be a professional and I want to be good at this but I am flying blind right now so I need all the help I can get! Sorry to hijack the thread by the way! And how do ppl feel about the expression a bad workman blames his tools? Do you guys believe that or is it you can't do a good job with the wrong tools? Please help! Lol! Lx PS sorry for being a muppet and not knowing anything! I realise how irritating it is! Lx:smack:

If you trained with sienna x on the website they do state that the nuress is for student or home use dont they?

I think maybe you ought to contact Sienna and tell them your concerns.

When I spoke to the company when I booked the training I said I was only doing it part time and this was the package they recommended! As I said in my previous post (which I was writing at the same time as you I realise) I am flying blind and I need all the help I can get! And you geeks are great at helping a newbie!I need all the help I can get as I don;t have any other network of pro's to call on!:smack::eek: Lx

It wasn't the machine in the picture I saw but \I didn't know it was an Argos one until today when I saw it on a thread here! I assumed it was pro cos it came from a pro IYKWIM! I am having real probs with sienna cos they still haven't sent my certificate and they have promised me several times in the last 2 weeks that it is in the post! I may just start all over again with Tantrick or someone! I'm getting really upset with this! Lx

Just had a look on their webbie again and they do promote this as a starter in the business bit cheeky really considering the machines very cheap in argos.
Maybe they would let you upgrade and take the machine back.I would have a bit of a go this machine is ok for home use but definately no good for continually doing clients.
I guess you have a good amount of solution and a tent worth quite a bit if you can afford another machine you can always keep the nuress as backup which is handy to have then maybe you can come to a deal with them on a decent machine.Tell them you feel as someone who knew nothing you feel you have not been given the best advice and been mis-sold.

i agree with gill,
contact them and ask for a refund as you have been mislead

fancy the same machine being available in argos!!! not very professional if you want my opinion!!!

poor lucy xx

Thanks guys! I am going to have a word with them tomorrow cos I have spoken to the trainer before about my probs and she said the tan I did on her was absolutely fine which I find fanstatically hard to believe cos every other one I have done has been fairly rubbish (although improved lately I'd like to say!) and the one she did on me was patchy as anything! Thanks guys for your thoughts! I will have words with them cos I feel very cheated - I know I didn't pay a huge amount of money but I still feel that I have not had my money's worth. And a couple opf hundred quid is still a couple of hundred quid which I probably won't every see again and which could have gone towards better training! Ah well you live and learn! I'll never believe what I'm told until I check with you lot! Lol Lx:hug: If only I'd known! Hindsight is always 20/20 vision!

Well its not all bad out of what you paid you had your training, your solution and your tent so you havent lost everything and if you do get another machine it is stillhandy to have another machine for a back up or sell it on.If it is giving a streaky tan then maybe it is faulty in which case by law you can have a refund. It has to be fit for its purpose and that is supposed to be a streak free tan.Good luck.x.

Lucy,

mmmmmmmm well we can't have a newbie getting herself all confused and disheartend about a new venture..please dont be getting disheartend at this stage...
The company you bought your kit from is a good one however maybe there was some confusion over your reqirements and intentions on how you were going to run your buisness.
The Nuress machine is a good little machine but is for stdents/home users and as Gill say's ..can be an excellent back up machine in the event your main machine needs to be sent off for repair down line

I suspect you are having two problems here
1) Traning...if you don't know what HVLP is and reading through your postings ..well I suspect you could do with a top up.

2) if you are going to be spraying customers and charging them you really do need a professional machine...there are many low budget entry machines out there but the one most used by many brands is the T200( previously the T100)
If you all ready have the solutions, client record cards you can justpick up the machine only for not a lot of money...would make a nice pressie from Dad hey

As I see it
1) you should go back to the company and explain your situation and ask for top up training and what deal can they do you on a T200..given that on their advice you purchased the Nuress machine ..they should be helpful if they wish to retain your buisness ...and im sure they will....when you ring ask for Lynne ..I am confident they will assist you:hug:

2) now if that all fails ...I will happily make Tantrick training resorces avalable to you for a top up training with our compliments...we can't certify you (unless you go through our full training programme) but mearly this will give you some additional tuition which should increase your confidence level.

So at least you now have some options and a stratergy of a way forward.
this is a good buisness to get into BUT if you are going to do it make sure you do it right in the early stages as this will pay dividends in the longer term.
Good luck

I have just bought a machine and tent from SHADEZ...hopefully it will arrive soon. Hoping to get hi-she tan.
Here's hoping I make my money back!!!
Thanks for the help....

It was the Nuress machine that I got with my tantrick training last year. So it would seem that the tanning companies are providing this to make the training more affordable.

This was certainly true in my case as I would not have been able to afford the training initially if I had to shell out for a more expensive machine. Having said that, I didn't actually start charging until I puchased my shadez machine. Not sure if it was just that I had my confidence by then or not but I didn't really like the nuress at all.

In fact I am having to use the nuress at the moment as my shadez had to be sent back (burn't out). I am also thinking of just biting the bullet and up-grading. When you start out it's really hard to know what to do for the best! I will see how I get on with Shadez in the meantime as I did really like this machine and was so disappointed when it broke.
