Hi,
I'm just after starting doing spray tanning I trained with LA tan and have the little piggy spray tan machine.:)

The first two practice tans I did were on two girls who had gotten spray tans done already about 4 or 5 days before, but they were using a different brand of tan I dont know which ones.
The next morning when they washed the tan off on their thighs and on the outside of their arms went kind of green!:green: I used the number 10 LA tan on them both!

I didnt know if it was the tan like a fault in the liquid or if it was a reaction with the other tan or if it was my fault!
Has this ever happened to anyone else before? I'm getting afraid now to start tanning paying customers because don't want people going around looking like jalapenos!!
Please help:sad:

have you had any problems with anyone else you have tanned? has your bottle been sitting in the heat or sun? or is it out of date? did u shake it before use? (spanish inquistion lol) xx

Yeah well I did another girl and after she washed the tan off it was really light like she'd just put light sun shimmer on!!
Yeah I shook it before hand and the tan isnt in the light I have it kept in a box with my other tanning stuff! But i also put some on me and it came out grand I really dont know what it is I'm so confused!!

I've never heard of anyone going green lol and its weird that you have come out ok but you have 2 green girls and one not looking tanned, I'd be inclined to say its something they have used prior to tanning, did u give them pre care advise, not using dove bodywash/moisturiser etc? xx

You can get a green tone if the client had used deodorant - has she just spritized herself with a body spray? Even if she did it after the tan was applied & before washing off the tan, it's possible it could react?

Not 100% sure if it was the body spray, but i do know that if there's any residue of deodorant on the body the spray tan can turn green in that area.

Yeah I told them to exfoliate really well not put perfume or deodrant or anything on!!
I think the LA tan is really nice like it came out well on my skin but I dont know if maybe I should try a different product or something!!

Haha kewl thanks hopefully that'll help!
I doubt its the humidity here its Ireland not enough heat for that!! :green:
Thanks I'll go have a look at that now!xx

if the client has followed your pre tan advice correctly ie exfoliated used no moisturizers or deodorant/perfume and still turned green it does sound like your solution has gone off, if you have a fridge in your salon keep the opened bottles in there in future it will last a lot longer

Not sure if it is anything to do with aloe vera in the product, I don't know cos I don't use that solution but I know when I have a fake bake and if I don't scrub the deodrant from my underarms, they also go bright green. I'd ring LA up if I were you x

I had a client come to me not so long ago who had had a fake bake tan that had gone green.

The only time I have ever seen this is when they have deodorant on and haven't got it all off properly, but even then it's only the guide colour that has a green tinge, the tan always develops ok underneath.

I have used LA tan on myself once & I have to say it didn't come out very well so have never used it on a client.

I use Suntana & have never had a problem.

Hi All,
Had client today wanting darker tan, I normally use Sun Lab 9%, but I had a bottle of Sun Lab 12%, never liked the colour myself so Never use it on clients, to give the a darker tan I use sun lab intensifying drops.
But my lovely stepson wanted his own bottle of Sun Lab 12%, he lives a long way off, and has only had 2 tans from his bottle.
So I decided to use it on my client today...........it was bright green. It has sat in the back of a dark cupboard for about 15 months. I know this has gone off.
Filled gun with 9% and some intensifying drops, client left with lovely colour.
I couldn't resist, I now have one bright green arm, just waiting to see if when washed off it will be brown on stay green . Will let you know in a few hours.........it looks very strange.......but fun.
Has anyone else had this with Sun Lab 12%, the 9% has no problems for me.
x x x  x x x

It sounds very much like this is a specific customer problem rather than a solution problem as its worked fine everywhere else on these customers as well as yourself.
I would put it down to customers not washing of perfume/body spray and or even shampoo.

It would be best to reiterate to them the need to be through with exfoliation (although this would mainly remove tired dead skin it will help remove any perfume residue etc) and most importantly of all that they shower thoroughly before coming over to you and ensure they rinse off ALL shampoo or body wash substances.

Jewlery can also turn the skin green however this probably is unlikely to be the culprit here given the location of the problem.

HTH

I live in a very hot sticky humid climate and have to be very firm with my clients to do the proper pre-spray tan ritual & after spray tan care.

Things I have noticed that will turn spray tans green are:
Clients wearing perfume, body lotions, deodorants & antipersprants.
Not washing soaps, body washes, shampoo or contitioners off properly and leaving residue on their skin.
Clients sometimes wash their hair before a spray tan and hair products that are in spray bottles will settle on the skin.
Clients might be on medication or pre-menstrual which changes the PH of the skin.

There have been a few strange things happen that have turned spray tans green that I am very aware of now.
I had a client turn green and spotty right before my eyes one day, she then told me she had a fever. I asked her to let me know if her fever had affected her tan after she had showered...luckily it hadn't and her tan was flawless.
I still inform clients that if they are sick it could affect their tan.
I tested an improved formula of spray tan on myself and the upper part of my back and arms turned green. I realised these were bare while the tan was developing and I had travelled home in a car that has leather seats. I'm not sure if it was the leather or I might have sweated that turned it green but the tan still turned out perfect after I had showered.

With all these things we have to be aware of so that a spray tan is perfect, it is more often than not something that is very simple (or a client has fibbed to us) that baffles us.

I hoped this has helped :)
