hi all, ive mooched the boards didn't know where to post this. I'm really interested in teaching and wondered how to get into this?
and any info anyone has

thanks

Do you mean teaching Beauty Therapy in college? x

You have to be qualified in what you want to teach and go to college and gain a teaching qualification hth

Different colleges have different entry requirements. The college local to me requires NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, 4 years industry experience and then a years teaching course

HTHs xx

lol i expect u would need to be qualified in the subject to teach the subject lol.

Yea, it will be a teacher training course, usually it's a one-year course

Good luck with it xx

To teach in the further education sector for new tutors coming into teaching you have to gain these qualifcations PTLLS, CTLLS, and DTLLS
(these are petals, kettles and dettols) also if you are wanting to teach in further ed colleges you have to have gained you cert ed by 2010. these are new goverment guidelines.

You could start with the 7302 (not sure if they have changed the name of it now) this will give you a good starting point in delivering learning.

HTH.

They do not do the 7302 now.
you would start with the PTLLS which is the 7303
then go on the CTLLS which is the 7304 if you wanted to specialise you can go on to the DTLLS which is the 7305.
but you must do the 7303 and then you have 5 years to get the 7304 done it is easier to just do both together and get them out the way, as you do the 7303 then straight into the 7304 certificate.

It also depends where you want to work really. log onto the IFL web site.

I have just finished the PTTLS.....For you to proceed onto the next level....CTTLS (teachers associate) you need to have a placement to teach and gain 30 hours teaching experience during the course. This then follows on to the DTTLS. Again, you need to have a placement and gain 150 hours of teaching experience. If you should choose the DTTLS (recommended), you can do the 1st year which is the CTTLS anyway and then you have 4 years to complete this. My advice would be to do it straight through.
Try the local college and ask for volunatry hours whilst doing the PTTLS. This way you will be the first to hear of any position openings so you can go onto the next stage of teaching.
This may sound very confusing.......worth it though and hte pay is around £16 p/h with the PTTLS.
Ring the local college and speak to a tutor there. They would be best to advise. Good luck. : )

Fab thread, i start my 7303 in january it is a ten week course, i no most of the courses rea start in jan, so if u are quick u shoul be able to get on it. It is one evening a week and costs roughly 100. I can not wait and like u plan to go all the way as want to teach waxing in colleges which would be a dream come true.
If u want to just teach and give an accredited certificate with the guild mark, you need your level 3 in the area u wish to teach and at least a year of salon experience in the area u wish to teach. U then put a module so to speal together on your course critera, contra - indications and so fourth, send it to the guild. It costs money for them to look over and register with them and if they are happy u can then offer certified courses and can go on to teah up to 12 other courses that you are trained to do under the same fee u have already paid, just need to do more course books. Hope that helps hun. If you contact the guild on here they will point you in the right direction and send u all the info u need hun
good luck xxxx

hi just reading thru old links and wondered if you did your teacher training course ? xxxx

i completed my PTLLS in march and was offered a job as a trainee assessor, i started working in a school in september this year, teaching year 10 students hairdressing "introduction to hair and beauty" the thing that gets me is how to make this interesting in the classroom, im really stuck with my girls... all they want to do is straighten the hair. any ideas on getting them more motivated, when they are not in the salon??

tah x

Hi I did go and do my PTTLS and then went on to do my Cert Ed in September at uni. I had a work placement in college teaching nail services and anatomy and physiology. I was so lucky the tutor for the class let me take the class myself so I prep all the work aswell as deliver the class. I have now moved down south and I am in the process of transferring uni's. There is only one college offering training so I am hoping to open my own private school within a salon :)
