We don't specialise; we have to teach the following subjects:

English, maths, science, history, geography, physical education, religious education, ICT, art, design and technology, citizenship...I think that's it!
When I first joined the site, I used to always believe that words such as specialise was misspelled because here in the states spell it as specialize...also realize, etc.
Oh drat,I forgot the second o in too
and I always thought ect... was that way.Now I know better ,
see ,how cool is this :green:

Oh I'm getting all confused with myself now ,and I have to keep looking at the keyboard:lol:

And can I ask,what is this for ... ; ...
also do I use a capital letter after a comma ?
You never use a capital letter after a comma unless it is a proper noun
I used to spell it 'alot' and wondered why it always came up wrong in the spell check. Simple...because I'd spelt it wrong!

Like Victoria said, it should be two words.
Okay, not be be a stickler, but isn't 'spelt' actually supossed to be spelled??

I'm loving this thread!!! :D

right lol bet I'm sooooo wrong (as you said 'riddle' but here you go:green: )

And ummm Mrs matrix.. I'm thinking it should be "spelled" too LOL:wink2:

We all need to get a life, spending so much time discussing grammar and spelling errors, hehehe.
Or at the very least, we need to get some sleep
It's 12:32 am here.
I'm an insomniac as usual. I'll be up at about 6am with my girls.
Yet, I'm here, checking the status of 'the geek'.

I thought I was right about the "spelled" thing :D

Well you know the world is going mad when, like here in NZ the government recognises and allows abbreviations and TXT terminology such as (2day - today) to be allowed in national school exams

Thankfully at least this does not apply to English as a subject where spelling and grammar are marked for....

But seriously, tough time to be a high school teacher ?!

Isn't this truly shocking? When I first read about it, I gasped.

Basically, they can write whatever they like (text speak, abbreviations etc) as long as their answer "clearly shows the required understanding".

I definitely have to agree that the teachers are going to find it rough.
Twas a sad year for education...

If anyone is interested, here is a link to an article about it:

Cheers!

Sorry, but 'we get an outstanding' isn't proper english!

Only joking! It's very late and I have enjoyed this thread so much. Keep up the good work guys xxxx

That's why that was my last post before I decided to go to bed. I knew my brain was shutting down! (that's my excuse...and I'm sticking to it)

I lived in the States for 3 and a half years and as a result often spell the way the Americans do. I have to make a conscious effort now to spell the English way which is the way I was taught at school back in Zimbabwe.

Facetiously! yes of course. I was racking my brains on that one too. LOL

I feel so tired and weary today.. probably the late night English lessons! LOL

Way back in the day, before our time, at country fairs; they gave away 'cupie' dolls as prices for winning games.

They're just little 'babydolls'.

:green:

And that's how I guessed it too. I was sounding out the vowels in my head, in the right order.. Obviously, the 'iou' went together. And theyY would have to be coupled with an 'L'. It didn't take me too long, only seconds perhaps? Luck I guess.

:green:

ill hold my hands up.... I'm well and truly guilty!

i haven't read all the replies but skimmed most of them

i guess the main reason for me to type as i do is all down to speed.... and the fact i cant get my point across quicker...
I'm sure if someone really didn't understand what i was saying then they could always tell me

also i am like lelly i do type things as i would say them..... grammatically correct or not... but thats just me and I'm sure those who read my journal and things I've written can see that...

i do try to use the spell check... but sometimes i forget.....

(i have just done a spell check and it has picked up some but not everything... and I'm not going to start dotting my I's and crossing my T's in this post)

will i try to change how i type... but it mite not happen as I'm too forgetful!!.....lol (and lazy!):smack:

Jess
xox

ps... I'm far better at nails than English anyway ;)

Do you have any idea how hard it is to type that way? Good grief! I'm glad we have all gotten the point, and for us "old" folks who can't remember what all the letters mean in text type, thank you, thank you, I can put away the text type dictionary!!!

Dearest darling geeks,

I have recently noticed that many new members (and now some old ones have joined the band waggon) are writing their posts on the main forum in what I consider TEXT TYPE.

I think those of you who do it have forgotten to respect our members from other countries, to whom English is not their native language. TEXT TYPE is difficult for these peeps to understand, and for others of us it is just plain damned annoying! :irked: PLUS it makes the site look rubbish.

The letter i should always be capitalised if you have forgotten, like this ... I

The word im (which should mean I am) should be written thus .. I'm

dont should correctly be written as don't

ppl is actually people

I'm sure no one wants me to go on and I am equally sure you all know how to write correctly so that others can understand what you are writing. If what you write is worth reading, then everyone should be able to understand it.

Putting paragraphs in your posts between thoughts also helps the reader to organise his/her thoughts and to separate yours ... and pages of writing with no paragraphs is just plain boring to read and I personally never read them.

Spelling words correctly also helps those who don't speak English on a day to day basis, and there is no excuse not to use the spell checker before you post in order to help our members.

So may I ask very kindly that we all have a little respect for the site, how it looks to others and for those others who come here to read and learn. Thank You.

Hi there geeks. I think this thread needs bumping to kindly remind those of you who use text speak on the geek site to please refrain from doing so.

I have also partially read a couple of threads recently with absolutely no punctuation whatsoever. I say 'partially' because I giveup before reading the entire text.

...And May I Add That When You Capitalize Every Letter In Your Paragragh As You Are Typing It Makes It Very Annoying And Difficult To Read...Especially When You Don't Break Your Paragraphs Up!

Sorry, it's just a pet peeve of mine....

That's very naughty of aufo to eat your cow! What were you doing letting him anywhere near it anyhow!

I think Carl wrote A UFO ATE MY COW TODAY
But only Carl knows why he wrote it lmao

Thank you for explaining lell.

Only Carl knows why he says most things really! I do love him though ... he has just the right amount of irreverence for things that the rebel in me responds to.

Sorry, Carl, for talking about you behind your back!!
