Hi

I'm due to tan a friend next week and she has blood poisoning. She's on antibiotics and finishes them on the day i'm due to tan her. She got it from blisters on her feet so her feet are in a mess to.

I've heard from friends that she's been coming out in funny rashes because of this.

This will be the first person I've had to turn down. Do you think I'm right in doing so and whats the best way to go about it?

She was getting her tan because she had a dressing up night out on Wednesday and she needed to be brown.

Yes i do think you are right to turn down spraying this person at this time, for a number of reasons,
if she is coming out in rashes then she does not want to be covered in spray tan and maybe not notice the rash, as the rash may turn out to be something that needs medical attention given that she has just been ill,
if she still has any sores from the blisters that are still open they would be open to infection and the tan could agitate this and make it worse,
if she has just been so ill her skin wont be in the good condition it needs to be in to get the best from a tan,
take your pick lol, but i would explain due to her feet been in a poor condition still that you are not comfortable to spray her as it just may cause another infection, and that you only have her best interests at heart, hth

I would just say that with the way her skin is at the moment she has a contra indication which your insurance wouldn't cover you for if she were to react to the tanning solution.
If she says oh but id never sue you just do it anyway just say in a nice way its your business and you like to abide by all the guidelines so you never have to come across any complications.
It might sound very formal but if something did happen to her you can guarantee everyone would know what caused her horrible rash and you won't necessarily be around to say ''she made me do it''

Hey

Thanks for your comments. Its always good to get a second opinion.

I'll give her a call in the morning and explain it to her

Hi

I had a chat over the phone with my friend whos coming for a tan.

I told her all my concerns and she still wants the tan and said that she'd cover up the blisters on her feet.

When I asked her about her medication she said she'd stopped taking it as she was out drinking over the weekend.

I'm still not happy about doing it but said I'd have a look.

I've tried to do a bit of reading on blood poisoning and tanning but cant find much about it

I personally wouldn't tan anyone for 2 weeks after they had finished their antibiotics.
Antibiotics can affect the outcome of a tan and can stay in your system, so you were right to refuse her and i would stick to your guns.

Tell her she'll end up looking like a piebald horse, big brown and white patches, that should put her of. As for stopping her meds before the end of the course. Well if the poisoning is still in her system, she has just made it resistant to the meds, it will come back worse then before and adding drink to her already week immune system is one of the stupidest things I've heard in a long time. Sorry hun, but the result of this could put her in hospital.
I would not tan this girl, I would hate any one to associate my work with her if something goes wrong, you know how dum some peeps can be:rolleyes:

hi

i contacted fake bake this morning hoping to get similar advice and that would've been me 100% not doing it but they said to me that i should get her to sign saying she's happy to go along with the tan even though she has blood poisoning.

i'm still not happy about that advice and called the girl and left a voice message this morning explaining my concerns and i wont do the tan.

i'll keep trying through the day till i speak to her

Carron..I know its hard turning down business but....stop this immediately..say NO to your customer strait out...don't faff about with this as it seems things are getting possibly out of control and she could well start badgering you enough until you do her.

You are a professional and as such tell her and that under no circumstances are you willing to put both her or yourself at any risk in the event things turn out bad.

It is important to remember that as a therapist you are responsible for your actions...many clients will keep nagging and nagging until you agree to do something your really don't want to do...then they blame you when it all goes wrong.

Be strong, the one in control but polite and firm and say "no"..also stress to this client that you would highly recommend that she doesn't go elsewhere either..for her own health sake

Well done Carron, she will look back on this in time and see that you had her best interests at heart and will appreciate your concerns,
as-well as having lots of respect for you too

Its all very well them telling you that, but a disclaimer means nothing in the cold light of the day,
and they are not the ones insuring you so shouldn't have really given you this advise,
they should have directed you to your insurance company.

you did the correct thing, its better to be save than sorry. You would have felt awful if the tan made her worse.. I would wait abt 2weeks after her medication stops x
