Hey everyone :)

I know this sounds like a stupid question, and it should be the easiest part of being in the nail industry, but I need some advise on how to get perfectly enameled nails.

I started my first job as a junior nail tech and my boss isnt happy with my enamelling.

She has asked me to come in tomorrow so I can practice, but any tips and tricks are more than welcome...

Thanks.

the best single piece of advice i can give you is

make sure the nail you are polishing is perfect, if there are flaws on the surface it will magnify them with polish on, make sure the nail is smooth b4 you start

read that link that Oey posted, its brilliant

Thanks for the help girls, that link was very helpful.

I do always ensure the nail is perfectly manicured first, so im guessing thats not my problem :( would be great if it was cos thats simple to fix.

Ive just been practising on nail tips, and they came out pretty good, I think the problem is that the nail polishes we are expected to use are all really gluggy. Although the other girls dont seem to have an issue so there must be a way around this. Arg this problem is really getting to me and I've started thinking maybe im not ready for this, and its only enamelling! I never even imagined id have problems with this, it seems so straight forward.

Stop stressing, it is straight forward ... and read my article the link to which is posted above by Oey.

Another great tip to a perfect surface on a natural nail is to use CND Ridge Out base coat. It makes the surface look like they have an overlay. VERY smooth result.

I would love to use ridge out, but I can only use the products supplied by my work and unfortunately CND products are not supplied, the base coat we use is some kind of cheap stuff.

I think the problem is mainly that the enamels are all gluggy, is there a technique of using these to make them look good? There must be cos the other girls manage lol. I guess ill just have to keep practising.

Use a very light touch and plenty of polish ... too little and your problem is much worse.

Thanks for that, I thought that using too much would make it worse, so I think ive been wiping too much off the brush, when I go in tomorrow ill try just wiping the back of the brush, like it says in the tutorial, and see where that gets me.

It will work for you just fine and because the polish is only on the front of the brush, you can control it so much more easily, plus any excess stays on the brush and not on the nail. Relax ... you'll do just fine.

Thanks again, im feeling so much better about it now, and cant wait to go try this out. Ill let you know how I get on

If they are too gluggy why don't you thin them out

I think you should speak to your boss about the products being used, maybe you cpuld recommend some brands

I don't think there is any part of doing nails that is easy it all takes lots and lots of practice
