Hi geeks,

I was wondering if anyone has any tips for cleaning the lid of a wax heater? I've managed to spill wax on it (don't ask me how lol) and I cannot get it off with surgical spirit, to how clean I want it!

I've tried Hive wax equipment cleaner too while the put is heating and the lid is on so hopefully the warmth would help me remove it but it's driving me batty!

I thought of maybe putting some warm surgical spirit on it (I pour this into the inside of my heater to clean it and it works a dream) but has anyone got any other tips?

I HATE HATE HATE dirty sticky wax pots!!

Thankyou!

Just turn your heaters up high and you'll see the wax on the lid melting. Clean with whatever you use, making sure you put the lid back on to re-heat after each attempt to clean. It will come off. xxx

i find that seraclean is the best for removing wax Buy Just Wax SeraClean 1Litre from Beauty Express
it gets everything off!!! and if its particularily difficult i sometimes use nail varnish remover. (but that is soooooooooo bad and i dont like to admit it!!! lol)

Surgical spirit shouldn't be used really as it can crack the lid. I use Thalgo wax remover and it's fab. Gets wax off everything!

baby oil.

Put some on cotton wool and rub firmly, takes about 30 seconds.

i use Jasmine Oil and rub it off with a wax strip!

Thanks ladies, never tried any of those! xx

PR wax solvent is a splendid treat for cleaning and nearly smells as good as marker pens (just kidding!). Seraclean seems just as practical.

I use Hive equipment cleaning wipes. I heat my pot and then clean it. It works every time. Maybe turn your pot up to full with the lid on. Anything like this is better than surg as it has oil in it xxx

So surgical spirit isnt the best idea then? I've always used it ever since college! Going to try the baby oil tonight! xx

First try wax it off with a strip..

But i use after wax lotion by hive.
Works a treat

Not for getting wax off hun. It's good to wipe over it for hygiene reasons though. I think it's the cheapest option in colleges. I wasn't even told about oil.
Baby oil should work fine xxx

seraclean is brilliant! i use that with a cotton wool pad to clean all round my wax pot and lid!x

I'm at college at the moment and was taught to clean wax pots with surgical spirit however I think they do this as it is bulk bought and the cheapest option for themm. However I have always used hive wax equipment cleaner on mine and it seems quite oily so works a treat!

Surgical spirits are quite drying and will seem ok when you have cleaned your plastic lid but once you heat the pot up again the plastic can crack so it's always best to use a proper wax solvent.

My lids cracked on my hive wax pot,,,,,can you buy just replacement lids?

Salons Direct sell the lids and the locking base collars seperately, they're under £5.00 each.
