I waxed a man's arms yesterday with soft wax and it was great most of the time, but sometimes when I pulled the strip off it would sometimes leave clumps of wax still on the area and nothing on the strip, could it be the warm weather or am I doing something wrong?

Help please ...

Were you covering the whole strip with your hand before removing?
Sometimes people just press with their fingertips and this won't remove the wax. Just a couple of firm rubs with the whole hand does the trick.

Oooh actually come to think about it when I was doing near his hand that it was the most problematic, and yeah I suppose I wasn't 'rubbing' the strip hard enough or enough to make sure it had enough to grip, so I will try that next time.

Same client is coming in for chest, stomach and Eyebrow wax on Tuesday so I'll make sure I 'rub' hard enough this time :)

Thanks for pointing out the obvious!

Was it a good quality wax? If not, the cheap ones tend to do this. With the better quality waxes, you can cover an entire area with wax and it won't do that.

Make sure your wax is very warm and applied thinly. Firm rub of the strip and rip. Make you you are stretching the skin from the underside of the arm. xxx

Kim,

It is just normal warehouse soft wax - not an expensive brand as I didn't think there was much in it, when it came to wax.

It was warm and I thought thinly enough, but maybe I'll try to apply thiner - I know when it has been thinner its sometimes been too hot for the client and so I feel I can't always win - is this normal??

And yes I always hold the area tight underneath the wax as I learnt this lesson hard at college so I always do that.

Thanks for the advise.. xx

You could do a lot worse than try some of the newer, more sophisticated waxes like Berins or Perron Rigot. I use PR's roller wax and Cristal ocean for strip waxing, and PR's Euroblonde non strip. You will be stunned by the difference. Cristal Ocean is extremely fluid, almost like water, and it goes on soooo thinly and stays pliable for ages. Because of this you can cover a whole arm with wax and it stays workable. Are you using oil under the wax too? A light smear of oil will protect the skin and help the wax to stick only to hair rather than to skin.
You can get Berins from Colin on here, and PR from Thalgo (for the full range) or Beauty Express.
Give them a try!

You'd be surprised the difference a wax can make!
I use Berins and Perron Rigot and like Calla said, the Cristal Ocean goes on sooooooo thin. It may be more expensive but it lasts ages.
Have never tried the roller system, i use pot and spatula with metal spatulas which are much better.
Here is a link to you tube which shows the lovely Kim using the Cristal Ocean wax and metal spatula;

Wow, that really helped me........Booking in with Kim is on my list lol

I've thought about doing some additional training in waxing as its not my strongest area, but its all money again.

This really isn't true yet you'll be told this by people who sell or use cheap wax. I'm not saying that you have to buy the most expensive wax out there, but you do get what you pay for in life.....honest. Besides, cheap works out dear in the long run.

There are so many brilliant waxers on here using a number of different brands but I doubt that many of them use the bog standard wax from their local wholesaler. They'll use a good quality brand.

You have to reach that point where it's hot but not too hot. Also if you apply it really thinly, they won't have a chance to feel it. I still think it's your wax and not you.

And yes I always hold the area tight underneath the wax as I learnt this lesson hard at college so I always do that.

That's great!

Thanks for the advise.. xx

Thanks Angelina for posting Kim's fantastic demonstration via You Tube.

I learnt more from watching a minute of Kim than I did at college! I've book marked this one.

At college I only get to use rubbish quality wax. Now I've finished college I use PR wax and it definitely make a difference with your application and removal, which in turn gives you more confidence.
