Hi i waxed a lady today that had really stubborn hairs, twas quite frustrating as in some places her hairs just would not come out and i had to wax over a couple more times to get them out, some just would not and i tweezed them out.... i rubbed well over the strip and also pulled it gently in the direction of hair growth before ripping a few tips that i read on here...*sigh* is there something im doing wrong??? some hairs looked like they had broken, and im always carefull to rip the strip parallel to the skin and not going up in an angle.... she knew her legs were stubborn, she told me, but after the treatment she rebooked and she gave me a tip, so i guess i was not that bad, but still i want to do a good job (was using PR roller, crystal ocean wax) can anyone give me some advice?

How did you prepare the skin before hand? x

cleansed then put a light coating of oil

I don't usually use talc but in cases like this I find it better to work with. If the hairs are hard to grab then the wax is sliding off, by adding oil I just find it doesn't help. I would try the talc hun. Are the hairs thick?
I would apply the wax to the skin, place on the strip, gently tug the strip downards whilst holding the skin tight and then rip off.
My sis is a red head and has stubborn hair and this is the best way I have found of getting them out.
Worth a go! Just explain to your client you will try it a different way  xxx

I find some stubborn hairs come out better with the non strip wax. I wax with cristal ocean too but if there are any coarse or stubborn hairs left then i will quickly go over those hairs with non strip wax as it's stronger!

i rubbed well over the strip and also pulled it gently in the direction of hair growth ?

There's your problem. You should not be pulling gently as this not only hurts the client, but could be breaking the hair.

Rub and Rip really firmly and quickly. How long since her previous wax? Maybe he hair is just brittle. Don't take it all on your shoulders when it sounds as though you did a great job.

Remember: Rub - Grip - Rip xxx

she had not waxed in 6 weeks or so, so all her hairs were long and dark and i thought yipppeee ! i didnt always pull it was only sometimes with the stubborn ones... oh well i will try next time with talc or i could sit there with a magnifying glass and tweeze every hair out...

Next time she comes, I would allow plenty of time and wax her with non strip first, then wax her again with strip. Make sure she knows you are giving her a special treatment because you care, and you want her to be happy.

Before anyone asks, I personally wouldn't charge her extra. You will get a loyal client and after 3-4 waxes you will be able to use just the strip wax again.

Don't use talc, use oil. Just make sure you press the entire strip and not just parts of it.......I see this often when teaching. xxx

Pulling gently really doesn't hurt if done correctly x

Going by the feedback from every model that walks through my door (and crawls out LOL), they ALL agree that the more fierce the pull, the less pain they feel.

Can you explain how you pull gently and correctly? xxx

Sometimes hair will be shorter and look like it has broken off in an area that has rubbed ,say where boots are worn or tight jeans where they cross their legs.

maybe you rubbed too much? Sometimes if you rub the strip too much you can snap the hairs off. Especially rubbing backwards and forwards repeatedly. I always find a firm rub and then straight off is the way to go.

Hi hun, I don't mean pull the strip back gently lol That would hurt!!
What i mean is once your strip is on, hold the skin firmly and tug the wax strip down before pulling off quickly  x

Actually this makes interesting reading for me because I have a client who has taken years to pluck up the courage to get her bikini and upper legs waxed and we finally did the first wax 4 weeks ago. The hairs are VERY coarse and thick in this area, and today for her second session the strip wax just wasn't touching the majority of it so I ended up using non strip for most of her upper leg as well as the bikini area.

Is there an alternative to doing this, obviously it uses alot of expensive wax!!! :)

You might find it easier if she can hang on slightly longer than 4 weeks. Even a few days more will make it easier.

I have some client that I recommend this to as their hair is very coarse and it's much better for them (and for me). xxx

When i have a new client in for waxing, i advise them to wax on day 1 then day 15, day 30 and then once a month for the next 5 months. Then repeat day 1, 15 and 30.
Hair grows at 3 different stages but you can 'train' the hair to grow together!
