I wasnt sure where to post this so thought Chit Chat was the easier

As may of you know I am not a Beauty Therapist I haven't gone through the hard work of NVQ1,2&3 and would never claim to be one but I have done training in things like Waxing, Eye Tint/Perm, Spray Tanning and Facials oh and most important Nails.

So if someone asks my profession I am some times stumped to what to say.

I have now started calling myself a Beauty and Nail Technician what do you think is it professional enough?
And do you think I am claiming to be something I am not?

I certainly don't think you are claiming to be something you are not hunny, you have worked damned hard for your qualifications. I am not really qualified at all in the skin side of things, although after today with Kim I can wax :green:, so I am sure some of the other skin and tanning geeks will be more helpful.

:hug::hug:

That's as good a name as any hun, I was thinking along the lines of nail and beauty stylist, I actually tend to think beautician in my head when I think of someone who applies make up and I think beauty therapist for all those awesome ladies and gents who do the who electrolicis etc that goes with a full time 2 year course. But what it is officially I don't know:lol:
But yes, there are a lot of peeps out there who do a few of the key services that have not gone the whole hog and you have to be able to call yourselves somthing that's not going to leave you having an involved conversation to describe what you are and do.

Loving that Lisa sounds very posh

Thanks hun I have worked hard and that is one of the reasons I would never say I am a Therapist as they have to work so hard over a few years rather than me doing an odd course here and there.

It does get a bit complicated when I am trying to tell people what I am

LOL Thats what I thought!

You'd always be explaining yourself though, and you'd get sick of people say " Whaaats Thaaat" PMSL:eek:

I think you have earned the right to call yourself a therapist. You have taken individual courses and passed with flying colours and paid a lot of money for the priviledge. You are indeed a therapist my darling!! (IMO)

I think Beauty Therapist is fine for what you do.

I think beauty therapist is a fine thing to call yourself. I did three years of full time (back when full time was 5 days a week!) to become a beauty therapist & I know others who have done 2 days a week for less than a year. Regardless of the level of our knowledge we all ultimately carry out the same services, and the proof is always in the pudding so to speak!

There are many beauty therapists who have done Level 3 who are very unprofessional and have no passion at all for what they do. Most Beauty Therapists don't specialise or offer every beauty treatment available. You also don't want to be giving yourself a title which confuses people.

To be honest however, I do think you should eventually work towards your Level 3 in beauty. It would make you an even better therapist and it would rid you of any feeling of inferiority within the industry.

I think you are very worthy of the title Beauty Therapist. You are professional and passionate about those beauty services you offer. I am sure you won't give beauty therapists a bad name.:)
