ive been open for almost 3 weeks and just going from bad to worse tbh not the salon but people around me..

i had a nail tech which was lazy so have now replaced her with sunbeds  which is going ok..

my part time stylist walked out on a customer last thursday and came back i spoke to her etc and warned her and she seemed ok. but went for lunch and never came back i was really annoyed as she was supposed to stay till 5pm and i had my scan which i had to miss because i was ringing her for 2 hours worried something had happened as at the same time there was police everywhere on my road and didnt know what happened.

then texted me late that night to say she decided she didnt want to get paid weekly but daily so quit.. i was confused but said fine as i didnt want her back by then anyway..i told her to get her wages on monday just gone.
i had no stylist for a week as i had to replace her even though we agreed a weks notice either way.
my other stylist is only for mon and sat so i lost out on quite a few walk ins because of this.

anyway today she texted and said she wanted to get paid for the month but was only with me for 6 days. :irked:

she didnt have a contract as yet so have nothing in writing for her.

my partner had it ready for her for the next day but she left.

she is threatening to got to solicitors for the months wages.. i aint even been open a month yet.

im just attracting the wrong people...

I wouldn't have thought that people on trial do not usually get anything do they ?
she must realise that she was only on trial.....
after all it seems you were only on trial for her, so I would imagine these things work both ways

yeah she was on a 7 day trial
erghhh... my other stylist is great si dont know where i went wrong with her.. luckily client came back that weekend and was happy with her haircut with my other stylist.

we dont have a contract as trial was not done yet. but i not sure what she can do as i she wasnt there a month and obvioulsy intends to lie about it or maybe calling my bluff
im starting to think im just too nice to people which i why they think they can take the mick

YIKES !! what a cow...
i wouldn't be worried ,you can be on trial for up to 3 months without pay, that is ANY trade not just ours,
if she has nothing in writing she hasn't got a leg to stand on anyway.
with regards to finding someone more reliable... did you interwiew them and go through the references??? always worth speaking to previous employers and if they can't get a reference DONT go near them.
best of luck hope you find your feet xxx

i referenced her but it was a mobile i rang but it is a salon that existed and was a good reference. so i dont know..

well its a learning process anyway and im learning very early..

now im glad we didnt do the contract that day :irked:..

thanks.. :)

well i texted her saying il not respond to anymore of her texts and she can call the salon if she wants to speak to me.

that was an hour ago and hasnt responded..

but yes she has no contract and im not going to stress about it offered her the week wages to be nice but said about the months wages.

and she took some of our stock also i forgot to mention blowdryer, highlights, styling gel, razors.

but im not going to bother with her and let it get to me.. plus i cant see her going to any solicitor..

i just dont want her coming down to the salon im heavily pregnant and wouldnt be able to have a stand of with her or anybody else she sends down..

she is obviously quite immature and wouldnt put this past her:mad:

I dont work in the hair/skin care proffesion but I do work in a proffesion and Im pretty sure that
a) if she was on trial she gets paid for what she did not what she didnt do.
b) if she took stuff from you you could count that as part of her earnings if you dont want the fight to get them back
c) shes not in the right try not to worry to much, easier said than done I knows. :/
Where I work we run a three month trial, during that time they can leave or we can get rid of them with no 'warning' as to speak, although its polite to give a bit of warning. Ive never heard of anyone being paid for time they didnt do, although Ive heard plenty about them being made to pay the company back for holiday time they took they hadnt earnt yet.

Chin up love Im sure it'll get better.

yeah i have cme across that too, so really the day she went home early and dint come back, and the day she walked out on a client, plus the stock... i'd assume adds up to the same that you owe her for wages???
fair is fair??
if she continues to text you having a go or whatever i would call the police to warn her off for harrassment.... that way you can be sure that she will not be bringing anyone down to your salon to SCARE you........ she does sound VERY childish
xxxxxxxxxxx

thanks.. i feel a little better now havent heard anything yet i just hope she dont come 2moro as have a charity event at the salon.

i will try not to worry but it is hard ...

but thanks for all your advice and comments.

its amazing how people come across in there interviews and turn out to be the worse

she took about £200.00 stuff and would have got paid about 130.00.
i may text her and tell if she coninues to text i will forward to police as im just uncertain about her possible actions from what shes done already..

How are these people brought up?

I can't believe the cheek of her. Walking out on a client! OMG! Then she takes a dryer and stuff and expects to get a months wages!

I wouldn't give her anything. I'd say she has to return everything she stole first and if she kept on about it tell her it's a police matter as she stole from the salon. That's Gross Misconduct in my company and is instant dismissal, escorted off the premises by security, team leader or manager.

Um think she is just trying her luck. Basically she didn't sign any contract so can't imagine she has a leg to stand on. All she is due is the pay for the hours she actually worked although she doesn't sound as if she is due any money as she has helped herself! As for the items she helped herself to I would send her an invoice listing all the items and their total amount, that should soon change her tune!

Leonni sweetheart, calm down. Don't get yourself in a state, think of the baby. Besides thank god you're shot of her now and can restart before she gets too close to your customers.

She doesn't have a leg to stand on. Without a contract, you are only entitled to the wages you are paid and should give this much notice too. By this i mean, if you get paid weekly, then you must give a weeks notice and you get a weeks wages. No more.

However, stealing is GROSS MISCONDUCT. If i were you, i would make a list of everything she has stolen from the salon and phone her, telling her that if she returned all of these items on Monday, then she could have her ONE weeks pay that she was owed. If she refuses, then tell her that the cost is coming out of her pay and so not to bother coming in because she will receive nothing. You will probably never see or hear from her again.

Call her on her bluff, she is just trying her luck. If you want to persist, you could get police and lawyers involved but it'll probably just cost you more in fees, tbh.

Sounds like your other girl is great. Maybe she could recommend a hairdresser or maybe you could get in a mobile girl for a little while.

Good luck hun xxx

yeah your right i am trying to keep calm in general and my partner keeps reminding me..

well she didnt come down and no text or anything so not sure what to expect..

but i dont want to take anything further as tbh its just so much more hassle for me at the moment then ive already got and the cost of a solicitor isnt even worth it..

but she has mentioned the solictor so we'l see.. as it will cost her also too file anything when she must know she wont win as she cant even prove she worked with me.

i was very nice to her and could have taken it from her wages but told her to collect it anyway. and she threw it back in my face.. and said items is for her time and effort

so il see what happens but i dont want to give her anything tbh now...

Hi, do you think it be a good idea to appoint an experienced manageress at this time? what do you think ?
then she /he can deal with hiring and firing ect , but do make sure they are on a 3 months trial first though lol  x

If I was nearer I would come and help you out for free x

well ive got two local emergency stylist if anything but still slow in salon so not rushing to get another stylist and my other stylist has taken on a few more hours..

i think its abit too early to get a manageress in right now but possibly after when im not there as much but im there everyday right now so wouldnt be worthwhile for me. maybe when i have baby depending on how things are at that time which is only 2 months down the line so not expectin miracles :)

i probably wouldnt employ someone so young again or for a while even though she is 22 but she is very immature and has made me abit wary now.. i know its not age as an older person can be just as 'silly' but it has definetely made me conscious for the future

Just a quick reply, havent read the rest so hope i dont repeat anything. She has no leg to stand on with regards to you owing her a 'months' wage, she had no contract. If she goes to a solicitor the fee itself will be more than the wage so im sure she wont. I had to go to a tribunal to get my wages a year ago, and i can reasure you majority of sooicitors and trubunal judges would not take the case on, (if they believed her), i had £600 wages not paid and i JUST got past the border of minimum for it to be a case. Ridiculous if it has actually happened to you but good in your case.
It sounds like shes leaving it now i wouldnt worry
xx

thanks.. thats awful though i would never take someone on and not pay them

well im just going to see what happens anyway but not going to stress about it anymore until i hear something from her and focus on my business :)..

Hiya. I been slated on here for saying this, but you need a bloody good, super experienced stylist/ star stylist/ manager. Please stop sodding around with young inexperienced hairdressers. they cause you more grief than they make you money!
I have been through the experiences that you are going through now and many more besides. Get someone with at least ten years experince and a cheerful disposition. will make the world of difference
