    Unlimited blowdrys

Well I for one would take a deal like this with a local salon - if the price was right. Think it's a great idea x

    No computer?

Couldn't manage without mine - not only for the salon software but I can do my accounts, create posters and ad's etc quiet times. Not sure how people manage without - but maybe that's just me!!!

    First time employing a trainee

You could talk to your local college - they'll be very helpful and could probably recommend one of their current students to match your requirements (I did this last year when I took my therapist on). They can probably also advise you on funding & training schedules etc. HTH Debbsxo

Best salon software for 2-3 staff?

Salon Iris is great. There are differing levels you can opt to buy and you can upgrade at any point to the text reminder, remote access etc. It's very flexible. Highly recommended & if you give them a call they'll talk you through everything - very personal service. Debbs xo

    NHS discount advertising

Thanks for all your replies guys - really appreciate it. Vic - cost starts at over £600 for a small strip ad (c2cm x 8cm) for a years advertising so not cheap and goes up to almost £900 for an 8 x 12! Will give it a miss I think - word of mouth seems to be working at the mo!

    NHS discount advertising

This is a pay a deposit then 3 payments after & it's for one year. They do the design etc & you can change the ad/offer monthly....

    NHS discount advertising

Just wondered if anyone has experience of advertising with the NHS Discount Site as I've had a visit from a rep today & not sure if it would be worthwhile. The business (I.e., me) pays to advertise on the NHS Intranet by offering 'discounts & offers' to NHS staff. It's not particularly cheap...

    Giving up a treatment

We only do manual tanning using Sienna X - which gives a fabulous colour & smells gorgeous too! We're fairly new so don't do loads but hopefully they will pick up over the summer. Cost is £30 for full body including exfoliation and polish, £20 if prep is done at home and £15 for just arms...

    Opening a business

I echo the sentiments of most of the previous posters! Having opened a new salon last year I'm very lucky that we are covering all our costs but I don't take a wage yet. We did a business plan with worst case/expected/better than expected scenarios just to get an idea of what might happen -...

    Training

I do think fast track has its place BUT......... it won't work for everyone. I personally fast-tracked at a small independent college but I'm very academic and researched and read researched and read researched and read researched and read researched and read researched and read - of my own...

Dermalogica has just banged the last nail in the coffin!

Environ is amazing and even better when linked in with Jane Iredale skincare make-up and their Advanced Nutrition programme. Their customer service is second to none and the fact that their make-up artist and skin analysts come on a regular basis (which boosts sales tremendously) means that...

Lost and wanting to get back into beauty industry

Hi Mia - First of all - welcome to Salon Geek :o) I guess there a few options you could take: Try to find a salon willing to take you on and train you up. You have the basic skills of course but lack experience by the sounds of it. You might have to start on a lower salary but could...

    Close to closing!

Hi there - I didn't want to read & run but am a bit unsure what advice to give you..... so these are just my thoughts..... I only opened in August last year & by the end of September was wondering what the h*ll I was doing & wanted to literally run away. However, things have now got much...

    Cost of service?

I think you need to narrow down your options first as there are too many parameters to give a definitive response here. For example, a bottle of nail enamel might be £16 or might be £4 - massive difference in profit margins. You might pay yourself £5 an hour or £10 an hour...etc. Narrow down...

    Employee going self employed

I think you need to look at this from a purely business point of view and do the calculations to make sure that you both benefit and not just her. Ask yourself the following questions: How much rental could you feasibly charge her to make it worth your while (and would she pay this amount) Is...
