hi cupcake, there are many routes to being a nail technician and there are lots of professionals who could give you their best advise, but I started off doing a home learn course before doing conversion courses courses. I decided to do a home learn ourse because it suited my personal lifestyle and these are the things that yhou need to consider when yhou decide what course to choose. I would suggest to go for the best and most popular courses such as CND, NSI, hopefully Geek (search for her on this site) will see this thread and advise you further on a professional level. Good luck with your chosen career path.:hug:

i was thinking of doing the course at home,, but have no idea how to get to that!! this might sound stipid but what is CND and NSI??????? im finding it really hard to find a course or even someone who can give me a few hours of there time to teach me a little bit bout it!! i have a fair idea what to do myself and have only ever really done my on nails and one other lady they where not acrylic or gel nails!!!!

CND is the abbreviation for Creative Nail Design,
CND win awards year after year for the education that they give us as nail professionals,
you cant beat them for education, products and support,
this is the number for their head office 0845 210 6060
give them a call, ask your questions and get them to send you an education portfolio,
you wont regret getting the best education you can the first time around as it will save you 100s of pounds in the long run hth

Yes get the portfolio, it gives a great explanation as to what each course involves.

Just for my pennies worth having entered into nails profession via different routes homelearn, local college studying over an academic year and doing private courses my personal recommendation would be private courses as you recieve the most up to date education. I did my conversion with Creative and would recommend them all the way, their products, education and customer service are first class. hth's

Hi there, and welcome to the site!!

This article gives loads of great advice and things to consider when choosing your training......http://www.salongeek.com/training/27430-answer-most-faq-training-should-i-choose.html

I personally could not do a Home learn course, as I don't have the will power , class based taining is the best way for me.

You should enquire with all the big Nail companies about their training, if you click on Navigation at the top left of the page then on links you will find lots of Education and Distribution sites with a lot of companies you can contact for information. EzFlow, Entity, NSI, Young Nails to name but a few.

Also don't discount your local College, College's have come a long way in the last couple of years, and this may be a more affordable route into the Industry as you could be eligible for funding!!

Good Luck!

I add to that, I wish Id found CND when I first started out I would of saved my self alot of money!!

Hi
thought I would give you my experience as someone starting out in the industry!

I did a 2 day L&P course at my local wholesalers about a year ago. it involved doing everything at home after the 2 day course and we only learnt tip & overlay no sculpting. after doing a few clients at home I became really disheartened as they weren't coming out very good and the client were losing them all the time! Since then I have started a level 2 NVQ at my local College on a tuesday evening and it has completely changed my attitude towards it! I love it! it's a 15 week course which I finish in the middle of Jan. I'm soo much more confident now and my tutor is really nice and supportive. the technique (CND) we have learnt is completely different from the last course. I was supposed to purchase a CND kit but unfortunatley the company I purchased from went into administration and I am still waiting to get my money back- I have now purchased an NSI kit which is so much better than what we had to buy on the 2 day course.

I haven't got the patience to learn at home under my own steam so that's why I did a college course and it was perfect for me. I just wish I had done it from the start and not wasted money on the first course I did!

Hope this helps you in deciding how to start..... Now I have started learning I just want to learn more and more!!! I think the next thing I will learn is gel........ and then nail art.........etc etc!!!!

Thanks for all your advise, i really want to get learning,, but its just the money side of things i want to go to college but the courses are like £300-£400, and at the minute i cant afford it, i am not working at the mo, as just before christmas i lost my job, as did a lot of other people, and i am finding it really hard to to get a job at the minute as noone is employing, but anyway.
I am going to call CND and get an info pack from them and go from there, (its just knowing where to go and how to go about it!!)

Happy New Year
