Hi geeks!

Up until now, I have only had my ears pierced, but in what I think is an early mid life crisis lol, I have booked to have my belly button pierced on Monday.

I wondered if any of you lovely geeks could give me any advice on what to expect, as well as any tips for looking after it.

Thank youuuuu!

I had my navel pierced about 10 years ago and tbh the actually piercing was over in a minute :) It was slightly tend for a few weeks and then it has been fine ever since.
I used to clean mine by adding sea salt to warm water in an egg cup lol I would lean forward and press the egg cup against my stomach and then lean back so the water swished around the piercing I used no sprays and never touched it with my hands and had no problems.
Good Luck

Try pm apex73 she has been thinking about starting a thread about piercing, like geegs popits one. She is a mind of information about piercing. Hope this helps.

hahahaha, and I thought I was the only on that did this....
the only difference is .... I used diluted Betadine (iodine).

I had mine done many years ago in New York (the same place Edina Monsoon got hers done) in Absolutely Fabulous, I even video taped it.

I went all shades of grey .... big hint ..... don't look while they do it, it will short circuit your brain.

I spent 30 mins in the chair with my legs in the air so I didn't pass out/throw up.

DON'T WATCH.

And beware of cakes of soap while washing your tummy, they can grip and pull.

I've had mine in about 7 years now and never had any probs with it. I kept pestering my mum to let me have it done but she kept saying no, then one day when i asked, she told me to ask my dad. Asked him, said yes, booked it, had it done, came home and showed him, and he told me he'd only said i could have it done because he didn't think that I would go through with it!

Cleaned mine the same as lellipop said, except after removing the eggcup, i moved the bar up and down, put the eggcup back on and repeated this a few times.

I took it out tues when I went for my tanning training, and it looked funny just having a plain belly button because I've had it done for so long. (I put it back in as soon as i got home)

Edit: when I had mine, they put a little clamp on my belly button, (I think its so the needle goes through straight), and then they froze it with a spray. I assume they still do the same? I didn't feel any pain at all, and I have a very low pain threshold, but i didn't watch it either.

Thanks guys, I've been getting a bit nervous about it but I'm starting to feel better now. Thanks for the advice Nailzoo, I can't even watch myself have an injection, so there's no way I'm watching this!!!!!

How long does it generally take to heal?

I don't know what has made me decide to do this, I've always been very conserative, but I seem to be a going through a rather later rebellion!

i had my first one done about 10 years ago and then i thought i was clever and had the right and left side of it done so i had a 3 o clock and 9 o clock one done too..it was ok till i thought i knew best and took them out after 2 weeks (wrong decision) i was in agony i could't walk it was horrible so i had to take them out so im left with horrible scars.. then i had my tounge done i love that and so does my fiance definatly have that done.. u get so much fun out of it ha ha .. good luck and make sure u clean it and look after it.. x x

I had mine done about 8 years ago, I am a total needle phobe, but I love my piercings and tattoo's... it doesn't hurt is over in seconds and you wonder what you worried about and what to have done next..mine was my tongue lol..

Bathe in salt water but then rinse in cool boiled water because the salt can dry and crystallized, after about 6 weeks if you think its not healing quick enough change the bar for a ring mine healed so much quicker once I put the ring in...then I just changed back to the bar.

Good luck and let us know how it goes xx

Make sure you have plenty of trousers or skirts that are hipsters as you will not want anything tight around your waist due to the waist band catching and pulling on the piercing,
i have had mine for about 15 years (before they used numbing spray lol)
and i cleaned mine with salt water too and had no problems with it, hth

I can always rely on the Geeks for some good advice. You guys are great.

Good luck hun!

It be fine over before you no it, i felt the clamp more than anything which look like a bq turn thing!! haha:hug:

Thanks. I'm having it done at 7pm so I'll let you know how it goes. :Scared:

you be fine!!! good luck hun!!!

i have had mine done twice, first time it was fine as i lived in cyprus and was in bikinis most days!!
but as soon as i wore " proper " clothes it used to rub and irrate, then i got an infection, soo painful, i had to take it out,
years later i had it done again, and it never really healed up, it was a constant source of pain and throbbing, so after 8 weeks i had to have it out again, maybe i couldnt tolerate the metal???
but i have my nose pierced and ears etc
i would love it done again, but not going through that again

hope it goes well for you
i think they look lovely x

Looking forward to hearing how it goes tonight!

I think I'm feeling a bit 'mid-life-crisis-y' and I'm now thinking about piercings and tattoos.

Once I've slimmed down sufficiently to *FIND* my belly button I'm piercing the bugger! :green:

yes hope it all goes well i didnt find the actual piercing painful it was more the day or 2 afterwards.

i suggest savlon spray for keeping it clean it works wonders!!

 GOOD LUCK!!

Don't know what all the fuss was about. I hardly felt a thing! Really pleased I've had it done, just got to look after it now.

Thanks for all your advice guys, you really helped to put my mind at ease.
