Hi
I'm coming to Professional Beauty next month and thinking of getting some eyelash extension training. My worry is whether people actually really want this service. I had half a set done at a show a couple of years ago and went to a local therapist for infills. She said she had been trained 18 months previously and had only done 2 sets inthat time and it wasn't worth it. I'm not sure if she was trying to put me off because I'm competition or if it was genuine advice. Is there really a huge demand for them??

Sorry, but I don't believe she's only done 2 sets of lashes in 18 months.

I personally love doing this treatment. I get great job satisfaction at the end of it. With anything you'd have to put some good marketing into it to make it a success. If you just slip itmon to your treatment menu and forget about it then no one's going to know it's there.

I would say they are def worth training in! Its like any new treatment thats introduced, if you dont market it and make people aware that you do it, people dont know about it! Be prepared to do a lot of your learning after the training course, be patient, practise loads and be pro-active in your marketing of yourself. Also, have a look at your local salons to see if they are offering the service, and at what prices etc. May help you with your decision. xx

Globally within the beauty sector eyelash extension treatments are growing rapidly ,have done so for a couple of years now and I dont believe it has fully peaked as yet..the consumer definitely finds them worthwhile treatment and returns time and time again for said treatments.

The main factor for consideration is more a personal one for you.

1)Do you like doing them..if so then you will naturally promote them.
2) Do you have an existing customer base that you feel would take up this service
3) Are you in an area where competition is limited and that the consumer in that area has a good level of disposable income
4) How are your marketing skills, available time to do it as well as having a budget to do so to promote this new treatment in an attempt to gain new customers

HTH and good luck

There does seem to be huge demand for lash extensions lately, but due to personal experience i would never have them done again or offer them to my clients! They looked lovely, but after 2 days they started clumping together and falling out and taking my real lashes with them. & once they were all gone, my lashes seemed even shorter than they were before. They were suppose to last 2 weeks  worst £50 ever spent!

Just reading your chats,
I am thinking about having them done for my hols. I thought I would have Lash perfect. They are £90 so hope they don't fall out after 2 days and take my natural lashes with them
eeek
Also thinking about hair extensions
If all my fake stuff comes off I am gonna look terrible !!!!
Maybe I should stay au natural so people don't see the contrast!!!:smack:

I'm still waiting for the lady at Novalash to get back to me, have been waiting over a week now. I know they are the priciest but one of the things I noticed when I had mine done was how quickly they began to fall out and even though I only paid £45 for half a set I felt robbed after only a week or so. I have read great things on this site about the adhesive Novalash use so we'll wait and see what they say and how much training is...

I do on average 4-6 sets or infills per week. I have not marketed this service at all - it has all been word of mouth from my clients.

This has been the biggest growth in my business over the last 12 months.

Is it worth it? - yes - definitely!:)

I only get asked for tanning and eyelash extensions above all else x

I can only speak for my business but lashes have got us through the recession. I have three salons with 7 lash techs across the sites . One being a lash bar in a city centre shopping mall alongside the likes of Mac and Jo Malone.

Like everything else the cream rises to the top. Some people will have bad experinces but with the right training and good quality products the majority of customers who have lashes adore them.

Advise on here is very good- reserach your local area to gage demand , talk to you current customers to see if they are interested .

I can give you more infromation if you like

The problems you have experienced are not due to having the lashes fitted,
they are due to having them fitted incorrectly,
when they are fitted correctly you do not experience anything like this, hth

yeah maybe i just had a bad experience :/ friends have had them done and loved them, i was just unlucky i guess :)

most of my clients love them, some (ones that pick them or dont follow aftercare!) dont come back. but i do 5-6 sets/infills per week and prob get 4-6 new clients a month, i am a hairdresser by trade but this is my most popular treatment really, and the most profitalbe x

Although I think they look great, I personally get bored of doing them. I know I do a good set and do have a few regulars but because I'm not a fan of doing them I don't actively seek out new clients. The ones I have have been definately word of mouth through a couple of die hard regulars so I say I do at least 8 infills a month, and the occasional full set. But I could get more if I wanted to. For this you need to practice lots to get each lash individually onto another lash, and to get your speed up. I'm not very good at having patience and much prefer to do "quicker" treatments such as waxing. Make sure you think about if you are patient, if you are able to concentrate for a long time and to look around and investigate each training course. I personally did my training with Nouveau Lashes. It was a fantastic course but worth the money?? No I don't think so. There are plenty of fantastic training out there. I also do not get my lashes from Nouveau as I love a good C curl and Nouveau only really do J's. So when you look around, look at lashes aswell.

I do think it is worth it and have made my money back, but probably wouldnt have done it if I'd have realised it was such a boring treatment, I would have learnt male waxing instead lol xxx

Purple Rose thats a very valid point for me. I have to admit that the treatments I enjoy doing are the ones where I can really get in to being very hands on, like facials and massage. Its not a concentration problem but I'm not sure I have the steadyest hands, and I probably do have a lower boredom threshold. I'm training in gel nails at the moment, also not especially because I think its a treatment I wanted to do but because I know I will get asked for it and I don't want to miss out and lose clients. I know alot of therapists love the fiddly treatments but for me they don't hold as much satisfaction. I will have to have a good think because training with whichever company isn't exactly small change.
