from doing nails - as alot of you know im now employed in a very popular salon, but since ive started, my LEFT shoulder is killing me - i could live with it, if it were my right shoulder (i am right handed) but it my left one, and my left hand dont do nearly as much work as my right hand (keep it clean ladies lol) does anyone else suffer with this and if so, what did or do you do to eleviate it - i do get it massaged too from kirsty (the massage therapist) but its not helping

thanks

Have you tried doing regular stretches during your working day? Try these ones.Desk Stretches: Take a Break and Stretch

I'd also suggest, if these and massage aren't helping, that you go see your GP or a chiropractor just to get it checked out.

Hope you get it sorted.

i suffer from a bad back, neck and shoulder from hairdressing and find the only thing that helps is a heat pad, you can get them at the supermarket, they stick on to the problem area and heat up for 8 hours and it is an instant soothing feeling. obviously this isn't a long term thing, so i'd say go to your GP too, i should really. x

Make sure you are not twisting to work on your clients. Make sure they are sitting straight towards you. It is so easy for us to twist our bodies to accommodate the client but if you are sitting twisted day in day out you will end up with problems. This is one of the things I don't compromise on.

It is strange that it is your left shoulder, do you sleep on that side ? do you have trouble raising your arm straight above your head ?

I think you should see a doctor to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the joint TBH

I hope it feels better soon:hug:

Hiya G!

I'm having exactly the same problem, started about 3 months ago! I've seen the docs, chiropractor, a bowen practitioner, a physio and an osteopath (cost me a fortune!)

The advice I got from the osteopath has helped the most and 2 weeks later I can feel the difference.

This is what she told me, but it might be worth seeing one yourself. As nail techs we spend most of our time with our elbows bent and then on top of that time on pc etc. What can happen is the muscles in the biceps can shorten which pulls us forward, then the pecs shorten and means our posture is all wrong. She gave me some exercises to stretch out those muscles. The physio also gave me some neck exercises whereby you push your chin in with your finger, really hard to describe, lol! Also the osteopath recommended a quarter teaspoon of turmeric each day for 5 days then every third day after that. Apparently it helps release the build up of lactic acid that builds up in tense muscles.

Give me a bell if you want me to try n explain the exercises better!

Hope you get sorted soon, I know how miserable it is!

I think osteopaths are excellent providing you get a good one.Try find one by recommendation.
A good one wont have you keep coming back unnecessarily just to get your money and will give you a good first initial consultation. They also wont just hook you up to a machine and they will give you home care advise and exercises.

thanks guys - when i think about it now, i do sit abit twisted (thanks chris) i will make sure the clients sits MY way next week and see if that helps,

ive been stretching the muscles in my neck and arm, but doesnt seem to make a difference. I sleep on my right side, so that wont affect it.

thanks to you all tho x

do you have a pad or folded up towel under your elbow?
as if your elbow is rested on the desk, i sometimes find, that i suffer with a sore shoulder
, but if i raise it slightly it goes!!!

Having massages will help once you have things sorted out.As massage therapists knowledge is limited and we can't manipulate.A good osteopath will often work along side a massage therapist so once everything has been realigned the massage therapist can help keep it there.
