I consider myself a beauty therapist.Beautician reminds me of years ago, when all they did was manicures, and a little bit of this and a little bit of that:hug: . They didn't go into anywhere near the anatomy/physiology that we do nowadays. My aunt was a beautician and she couldn't believe half of what we have to cover these days.I know it sounds daft but I personally prefer to be called a beauty therapist, after all, I am a therapist.

No probs,hope I havn't offended anyone,JMHO:)

After watching an episode of Murder City a while ago, I was completely turned against the word Therapist, cos if you split it in two, it becomes
THE RAPIST.

Now I try not to call myself a beauty THERAPIST cos of that tv programme!
:irked:

Beauty Therapist, in my very first class at college my lecturer said to us all that we were not to refer to ourselves as beauticans at it was so "80's" she also mentioned that many people don't take the title as seriously as beauty therapist which i have experienced myself and she was the ultimate 80's throwback !!

I think its a very dated word & if anyone ever refers to me as one i always correct them :)

I have always used the term Beauty Therapist and used to correct people if they called me a Beautician....now i'm not so bothered!
People know what i do and that i'm good at what i do, i have been passionate about it from the word go....because i do a wide variety of treatments i get called all sorts of things and it doesn't seem to bother me anymore!!!!!

I am a Beauty Therapist, although not overly bothered. I just think Beautician is a bit "make up counter" impression. Not that there is anything wrong in Make up counter girls, (i did that job once), but hopefully you know what I mean!

:) definatly beauty therapist, mainly because of all the train it took to become one!, my understanding is that beauticians are make-up sales girls, or so i was told during my training, but i guess its what you prefer

its beauty therapist for me too! Beautician is so old fashioned and i feel is related to how we used to be 20 years ago.

I think they still use the term beautician over in the States, not sure though.

I call myself a therapist, but most people refer to me as 'the waxer' or 'the beautician' or 'the girl that does my nails' lol.

Im not too keen on the word beautician tho. as someone said, it reminds me of people that do bits and bobs and dont really know as much of the science part. Like, someone that just pretties people up. A therapist can treat a condition.

Thanks all for your replies, i really thought i was alone on this one, i also associate 'beautician' with make-up counters etc (nothing wrong with that!) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I recieved a price list from a local salon... they were describing the treatments and instead of saying you will be welcomed by your therapist they put, you will be welcomed by your the rapist... I had to read it twice and didnt stop laughing for ages!

Hi there just thought i'd let you know
Beautician means you only deal with hands, feet and face
Beauty Therapist deals with the whole body. Hope that's ok

Nope, Cosmetologist, Hair Dresser, Stylist, Colorist, Hair Sculptor, Senior Stylist, Junior Stylist, Shampoo Technician...would you like more? The most popular are Cosmetologist or being called by your specialty. (I'm a Cosmetology/Nail Technology Instructor, deep down, I'm just a Nail geek...but I guess that's not entirely true, I like chemical services, color especially...just get them hooked on chemicals, get their nails on a good schedule then talk them into color...you'll triple your income!!)

I agree with you on this one.... You are considered to be a beautician if you just have nvq level 2 but classed as a beauty therapist with level 3 as it is much more indepth. Thats what we were told at college as one of the girls had asked the same q lol.
