Hi all, i have been having a few concerns about bikini waxing, like some other girls on here i have been reading about! Im finding it difficult to support the skin in the right way, i know we all have different ways of doing things but i feel the way i do it isnt good enough and am wondering if any body had any tips? I use strip warm wax, i apply with hair growth and take off against, that i know lol when im doing the sides i just use my hand to strech the skin outwards then when going underneath i do the same really. I do get my client to help support the skin aswell which does help! I would be so thankful if therapists on here that use strip wax with waxing could just give me some tips on how they do bikini waxing.
Thanks for all your help chloe x x

Hi Chloe,
Hope this makes sense- when bikini waxing i always support the skin in the direction against which i am removing the strip, and the client support the side. For example, i have applied wax to the side of the bikini line in a downwards direction, and therefore i support the skin underneath that strip to stretch the area, and my client supports the skin by side stretching. This way the skin is kept taut and enables more effective removal, and avoids possible contra actions. Hths

if you have to use strip wax, take it off in small peices, personally i wouldnt use strip wax, anywhere near the bikini, except for removing the odd stray hair, hot wax,or shrink wrap wax is alot kinder to use, as it dosnt stick to skin, just hair, keeping bruising, and discomfort to a minimim.
and no sticky residue, i use euroblonde, but there are lots of other wax out there, take care hxx
ps, i modeled on an intimate waxing course, for kim lawless,
i had always had my hollywood done with strip wax at that point
when she did it with euroblonde, what a difference, everybody asked me how the pain compairs
stripwax 10 hotwax 3 luv hxx

I would def agree with the above post, if u can hot wax the clients bikini then do it. Euroblonde is great, as is reference. No residue and more effective on terminal hair.

hi thanks for that, that does make sense i think, so say your starting with the hair that grows just kind of outside the knicker line, u apply the wax downwards then put ur fabric strip on and u would strech the skin undernearth the stip down? then get ur client to support at the side? where would you support when ur going underneath? do u find it best to get your clients leg up in the air faceing the ceiling?

Thi is the way I would do it too. For underneath, by all means if it's easier for you to get a good angle then ask the client to hold the leg up, you then have much less to do because the skin i already be held taught.

Try to change to non strip wax.......much less painful during and after.

Do you mean a basic bikini, which is in the crease of the leg? Anything more is Intimate Waxing really. Apply your wax as thin as possible and stretch from below when removing.

I never get the client to help, so try to perfect it without their help.

i would start by having the client slightly sitting up on the couch. get them to lie with there legs flat on the couch. keeping one leg straight bend the other leg at the knee and tilt outwards. get the client to tuck a tissue into thier knickers and put one hand flat onto it and pull. with their other hand get them to hold their leg and pull. that way you can also hold below and have a three way stretch. for underneath depending on the growth and flewablity of the client either get them to put their hand round the outside of their leg and hold from underneath or get their leg still bent at the knee and get the to hold it on the tummy. i use warm strip wax but i use paper waxing strips not fabric just find you can flick it off better that way. hope my lil essay helps!

I don't know if this will make sense but i use my thumb and my pointer finger. Make an L shape, the thumb supports underneath and the finger supports the top.

Thanks for the tips everyone will try and put them into use, sorry to ask all the questions just i went straight from college into work without any further training and have always had trouble with some waxing! i would like to use hot wax been told by many therapists that its better, does anyone know what the best hot wax is and how expensive it is? i dont think my boss would get it into the salon, she has only ever used strip wax!

Hey everyone me again, i just wanted to ask another question to all you expert waxers, im doing bikini waxing and noticing that sometimes i think the skin in being torn it almost looks like dry skin peeling when i rip the strip off! Would this be because im not supporting the skin enough? i really need some expert training in this area!!
Thanks for helpingxx

Are you using strip or non-strip

.Hi,
Sorry, I'm not an expert yet, lol,
but at college, my first wax (lower leg) had this happen.

It was kind of like peeling sunburned skin off ....

So of course I yelled for my tutor, & she asked lots of questions,
& it turned out the girl is taking some strong acne medication, & has been for a while.
Would have been helpful if she'd admitted this beforehand...*tut*
She was almost back to normal the week after.
:)

I'm new on here, so be gentle with me...but re the above statement its REALLY important for the therapist to go through all these type of questions first and record the clients answers - we're the experts, not them and its not fair to expect them to know what to disclose.

Also, so many people use retin-A type treatments for acne and as anti-wrinkle cream it definitely merits its own tick-box. Strip wax will lift skin clean off if these concentrated vitA creams are being applied. Hard wax works fine tho' as long as skin is prepped thoroughly. Hope that's useful.

New info is always useful, thanks :)

But to be fair (to me), I'm certainly not a wax expert, & that happened in my third week of my 14 week course.

One question please: retin-A, Vit-A (vitamin a? surely not?) or both?
Are there any specific names or brands to look out for?

Is it only acne & anti-wrinkle preparations that contain these/this ingredient? Or are there other creams/meds aswell?

How long do people usually need to have stopped these preparations for before we can treat them?

Help appreciated :)

Retin-A - Drug information from Medic8.com

I would recommend that you get yourself a book that tells you about different medications, something like this. BMA New Guide to Medicines and Drugs: Dk, Frances Williams, John Henry: Amazon.co.uk: Books
It doesn't have to be a complicated one, just one that gives you the basic uses of medicines. The other thing I do is, if I don't know what a medication is for that the client is taking, ask the client to explain. They really don't mind.

Hey Ruth,
Sorry - I wasn't meaning you should've checked all that stuff out after a couple of weeks - more the tutor.
Retin-A is a brand of tretinoin -Altinac, Ativa & Tretin-X are some others - that is a topical gel or cream (various concentrations available) and kind of burns off the top layer of your skin slowly (that's just my words, I'm sure it says something nicer on the packet) so that the skin renews itself and supposedly this gets rid of roughness, fine wrinkles and promotes collagen production. I haven't looked at the evidence for this, but it seems to work for me. A bit...
Its mostly for acne, wrinkles and skin discolouration - as far as I know. And yes it is a form of concentrated vitamin A. Leave 5 or 6 weeks after discontinuing treatment before strip waxing, however well prepped skin is (others may disagree). Its a long time since I had the pleasure of a well scabbed top lip because I didn't read the contra-indications properly, but the experience converted me almost completely to hard wax on any sensitive areas, including the face.
Hope that's helpful! I want your teeth x

Indeed!

Get your employer to send you on an intimate waxing course pronto. The peeling that you are seeing is because the skin is dry - are you using oil before the wax?

Another advantage of using non strip wax is that it doesn't stick to skin, only to hair.
