Well guys and gals one of my biggest fears happened last night. One of my boys broke a bone :(

My eldest (3) fell against our fireplace (which wasn't reattached to the wall yet after redecorating) and it fell on him and broke his collar bone. I feel like the worst mum in the world, the doctors were all so lovely and reassuring that we saw at the hospital last night and my boy has been so so brave. He is completely un-phased by the whole thing, he seems to be in no pain and hasn't complained once. He thinks its cool that he has a sling on and everyone gives him sweets and get well soon gifts and loves listening to people tell him what bones they broke and how.

So I just wondered how many of you (or your children etc) have broken a bone and how so I can share your stories with him? Xxxx

Poor little fella, accidents happen so done beat yourself up about it.

Ok so I've broken my wrist,elbow,leg,foot,5 fingers,5 toes, nose, fractured my scull, ribs. And they were mostly separate incidences lol.Very accident prone lol.xxx

Ah god help him, hopefully he has a speedy recovery. Wow Colleen you must play very rough ;)

I've broken my right wrist before but ill never forget when my brother who was 3 at the time broke his wrist. We had pushed the small slide out the back and were jumping against the swing set and catching the top bar. Pretending to be gymnasts as you do. We practically forced him to do it of course he was so small he just kind of banged into it and hit the deck. We never said a word and when he complained my mam didn't realise he was that bad for about four days. She felt guilty about that one for years, needless to say no one ever told her the full truth of it. Ps I was 7 at the time so really should have known better x

Aww I hope your little boy gets better soon.

I've fractured my foot so can't stand without crutches over the weekend :((( so I feel his pain xxxxx

My son currently has a fractured wrist after falling of his rollerblades. He's 12 and doesn't understand why I won't let him back out on roller blades because he says he's now more protected with a brace on!!😳

He broke his collar bone at school when he was six and has managed a few fingers and toes too!

Whenever i eat my jaw clicks like mad and sometimes locks so i went to the doctors to get it looked at he sent me the hospital who said at some point i'd fractured my jaw and thats what's causing the problems i never even knew i'd broken it! They could reset it but i don't fancy having my mouth wired shut for 6 weeks thats my idea of hell although it is a bit weird when i'm kissing my OH and all you can hear is click, click, click lol.

I also broke my back and shattered my thigh in a car crash I'm now like the bionic woman lol. Xxx

Aww hope your little boy gets better soon. Like others have said, accidents happen so don't beat yoyrself up.

I have only broken my elbow by hitting it against the stair bannister.

However I have fallen down the stairs so many times I should have broken more - docs say I have very strong bones.

Hi,

When my son was 5 and in reception year at school,he fell off the arm of my neices sofa breaking his left arm at the elbow, because the break was so close to a major nerve and artery they wouldn't take him to theatre like all the other little ones in there at the time so they tried to set it with him just sucking gas & air, it broke my heart to see him in so much pain and screaming as they pushed his arm up against his chest to plaster it, it took them 3 attempts over 3 days to get it right!!

This was over the may bank holiday weekend and there was actually a lad in the bed opposite with a broken left arm who was in his class!!

Fast forward a few years and he was a few weeks into year 3 (sept 11), first year in Junior school and he fell from monkey bars putting his hands out to break his fall. The force that he hit the ground broke both bones in his left arm at the wrist forcing the lower section up his arm stretching both the skin and nerves. The wrist was plated and pinned and we spent the next six months attending a specialist hospital in london as he had nerve damage and has no sensation in the thumb and two fingers. Over the months thankfully it repaired without the need for surgery. However when the plaster came off the pins had dislodged and his wrist was out of alignment and now does not have full rotation of his wrist, again it has greatly improved over the year and is now 80% repaired, we are waiting for occupational health appointment for him now.

Worst of all when this last one happend, I was in Centre Parcs with the girls and was a 5 hour drive away, blubbed when I spoke to him and he said "please don't come home mummy I'm fine so stay and have a lovely holiday!!"

I tell him I'm gonna wrap him in a duvet when he's not with me now!!

As has been said, children mend amazingly well and they seem to managed so much better with plaster cast etc. than we would. Good luck to your little one

H xx

I broke both bones in my left wrist at 7 years old, the bones got dislodged and needed surgery to correct the alignment, due to having eaten an ice lolly a few hours earlier I had to have it plastered while the bones were overlapping and have an op the following day. My sister had made me sit on her fit while she lay at the top of the garden with her legs bent, knees against her chest (on a hill) and propelled me through the air, due to the ground not being level I actually fell nearly 2 meters, I lied to my parents saying I tripped over her leg so she wouldn't get in trouble and the story stuck for about 15 years till I confessed!

have never broke a bone and would be so scared if my kids did

I've broken both wrists, luckily on separate occasions, both were rollerblading accidents when I was younger.... Not good! Although, I liked being able to get out of certain things at school when I broke the right one, I couldn't write so it got me out of homework!

My boyfriend currently has a broken collar bone and ligament damage with playing football. Instead of stopping playing, he carried on, instead of going to the hospital closest to him, he came home and insisted on eating first as he was starving... 8.30 in the evening rolled by and he decided it was then an okay time to go to A&E... At a hospital he thought was "better" not the more convenient.... I ran out of patience at about 11.30 at night :p

I hope your little boy is feeling better soon!! :) xx

Ive not broken anything but I wished I had at school! Was so jealous of people in casts who didnt have to participate in certain lessons. But I have cracked my head open and needed stiches when I was 3. Being a naughty girl and getting myself out of my pushchair and walking along a small wall when my mom was talking to someone :/ dont remember a thing tho and im sure you're little boy will forget about it all very soon xx

My son has broken his fingers, his wrist, his ankle (that one was 2 days before we flew out on holiday) his collarbone and his elbow. All separate incidents and Usually from sports. The elbow he fell down the stairs. He also did something to all the ligaments in his other ankle that was the most painful, took the longest time to heal and it still plays him up a bit now.Otherwise at now 18 he hasn't had any other lasting effects.

I have broken my neck, hand and elbow over the last few years from car accidents and horse riding accidents. I have also broken my nose on many occasions, the younger you break something the better it heals, I have had a few lasting affects from my elbow (it had to be plated and then the plates removed) but nothing too much to complain about it. I barely remember then pain from all of my breaks and they are only 2-4 years old. You little one will put it downto a life experience and probably be very proud of his injuries xx

I have never broken anything, my youngest brother has broke quite a lot of bones, legs, arms, ribs etc, he said that the ribs hurt the most.

I've only ever broken my ankle when I was 6 in a car accident; there seems to be a lot of wrists, elbows and collarbones breaking here!

He's getting his sling off on Friday - well, all going well ! It's been a tough 4 weeks, he's been off nursery as he's too high a risk, so understandably bored. Xxx
