Back when I first started doing L&P I finished with buffing out to a smooth finish then varnished. But now days theres Gel sealer top coat you can use in place of all that smoothing and buffing. My Question is then why would you still want to do the buff and shine if the Gel sealer helps nails hold up better and takes less time, even if you need to dull the shine from the Gel to put on varnish, Gel sealer top coats seem faster and it seals against water and solution better?
Buy the way do you need to dull or take shine off gel sealer before varishing?

hi,

Whatever you do, do not attempt to remove the shine from gel nails! The whole purpose is so that the finished product has a beautiful lasting shine!

If you want to polish your nails, apply base coat and then varnish as normal, so that when you want to remove the colour, the lovely shine of the gel is still there!

I used to love a gel topcoat but since I saw the amazing and effortless shine you get with ezflow snow monkey and miracle shine I knew that is what i will use from now on. I was gobsmacked when I first saw antony buckley use it

I have always either polished or buffed to a high gloss finish.

I do not think a UV Finishing gloss makes the nails more durable or last longer and I don't like the extra 'bulk' it seems to add to a sleek finished L&P enhancement.

Plus I don't think it saves you any more time either to use a UV cured finishing gloss over buffing.

First you have to clean the enhancement surface of all oils and dust (more ScrubFresh and another pad) then you have to apply the finishing gloss to one hand (at least 1-2 minutes) then 2 minutes under the light. Then you do the other hand and another 2 minutes under the light. Then you need to wipe off the last inhibition layer (more ScrubFresh and another pad). In that time I could just high shine with the Girlfriend buffer or the Glossing buffer and be done and not have spent any more money on consumables.

I have found a new love for doing all the work myself and not relying on top gloss. I know the finish is down to me and not another product

I use a uv topcoat moste of the time due to demand by my customers. I have to say that i like the look of a nicely buffed enhancement much better since the transition from the natural nail into the enhancement is seamless when they start to grow out where a topcoat always leaves a miniscule ridge depending how thick it is in texture. BUT customers like the longlasting gloss of it and moste of them could never be bothered to buff them up now and then themselfs at home or to put a transparant nailpolish over it. Moste go 4 to 5 weeks between appointments.
I try to use the time usefully when their hands are in the lamps since i take their credit card that they take up before i start and take the payment so everything is done by the time they come out of the lamp.

I use IBD Intence seal it goes on very then and no taking off inhibition layer its great. I know what you mean though some gel sealers go on thick and you have that inhibition.(sticky stuff) When I use the Intence Seal my clients love it and it helps alot if the're in water alot or do crafts. Thanks everyone for you replies.
