can anyone tell me more about this and is it worth doing.

i read up on it and it involves an exam and pratical. the exam is fine it just i have been using calgel for over probably three years now and i have got into my own little habits and ways of doing a set of calgel unlike the way i was show as i find they look better and last longer and use different tips, oils etc.

what im trying to say is if they made me do a set of nails like how they do them i think i would get very stuck and probably fail :(

very confused to what to do :irked:

The premier status exam is hard. It is not so much about how you do the nails but the finished product. Each nail is marked out of 10 and the pass mark is 90%. You have a model. One hand is sculptures the other tips. There is no written exam. Nobody stands over you checking your technique but the thing with Calgel is the techniques that are taught help you to create a perfect nail which is what they are looking for in Premier Status.
If you havent trained in over 3 years they perfect and change their techniques within training as they are always trying to make it easier for technicians to create great nails - I would suggest you go on a refresher course first. Hope this helps

I was under the impression that Calgel make you re-train every 2 years anyway. When I got my certificate as a normal Calgel technician as opposed to premier technician, it had an expiry date. After this date you have to retrain with them (I suspect they will stop supplying you if you fail to go on another of their courses). I have switched from Calgel to CND as I find that like Emma Louise I use different tips, oils, etc.

I am intrested in doing a calgel nail course any info as were i can do the course?

Hi EMMA,

The Premier Status Assessment is our top qualification, it requires a 90% Pass Rate, from the new year anyone who is Premier Status trained will be entitled to continual special discounts.

The morning of Premier Status is a workshop where Robyn will explain what she will be marking on in the afternoon, the assessment is in the afternoon, we require you to bring a model (choose wisely someone with good nails to begin with will help you out), All Nails will need to look perfect from every angle (If you look at the back of your workbook it shows the areas that are marked), one hand sculpts, one hand tips, one side in french the other in 18. Its a nerve racking day, all CALGEL educators have to pass every year and even these ladies get nervous! For further details please contact me on [email protected]

All Calgel Certificates for our normal 2 day course are only valid for 2 years, after 2 years you will need to return for our advanced course where we will cover advanced techniques, nail art, new techniques.

thank you Karen. Is that right, there is no written exam only practical? and how much time is given for the exam?

I had absolutely no idea my certificate was only valid for 2 years!:irked:

I was never advised of this when choosing Calgel:irked:

Neither was I - I only found out when my certificate was sent through a month after completing the course. To say I was disappointed is an understatement hence why I am retraining with another company.

The only valid for 2 years thing... this seems very silly to me

I suspect that Calgel will stop your account with them if you fail to retrain. I hope that people who are thinking about choosing a gel brand to study are made aware of this fact. Had I known I wouldn't have spent £800 on the course and £200 on products (all bought prior to my certificate being sent and being made aware of the 2 year expiration). I am furious about this.

I think Calgel may shoot themselves in the foot with this policy. It would certainly cause me to looking at their competitors to pursue further training.:)

I understand and agree continuous training is very worthwhile and adviseable but I update and further my training through my own choice not because it is being forced upon me.

Calgel needs the technicians out there using their products and should be doing their utmost to maintain their client loyalty.

Thank you for putting my thoughts so eloquently Urban Geek.

You have said exactly what I wanted to say but was far too angry to put into words.

Goalposts shifting after the event is never a good move, changing conditions of sale after purchase is abhorrant to me!!!!!:irked:

I agree. I wonder how many nail techs Calgel retain once the 2 years is up? I feel like I have been mis-sold this system and am very angry about it. I am jumping ship now rather than continuing with this brand. I have only been doing it since September.

Is this a new policy? I was not made aware of this when training - this is the first I have heard of it!!

I've just looked at my certificate which has 22nd April 2008 above the word 'Date'. NO sign of any expiration date!

This is one reason i decided not to do Calgel training, as i am already qualified in gel.
So with the money i trained in spray tanning, so worth it

what benefits do you get for putting yourself through the pemier status ???

From January, anyone who is Premier Status trained will be entitled to continual special discounts.

Have you placed and received orders from Calgel since 22nd April 08?

I trained in dec 2006 and have ordered just this week and noone has said anything about this to me.Although i have been meaning to do a refresher anyway with a view to doing premier status now i have the hang of sculpting.
Its not a bad idea to be honest as long as its not too expensive.

Thanks Gillian, I too have the old type of certificate and order regularly with no prob. I was asking Pink Pink Pink as she has the new type of dated certificate to see if it really means what the others are assuming; that it stops them ordering after the expiry date, maybe Karen Calgel will come back on and put their minds at rest.
