hi,my car insurance is due in a couple of weeks and because im only 23 im really struggling to find an insurance company to cover me to drive other cars  even though i have 4 years no claims.because im under 25 years old they always want to class me as an inexperienced driver, which also means that my excess is £20 without my voulentary excess ..has anyone had the same problem and did they find an insurance company that would cover them an that had a sensible compolsory excess? and does anyone know of an insurance company who would cover me?
i hope someone can help as its driving me mad,ive spent hours on the computer trying to find someone with no luck so far.

thanks but i already tried them as my sister is with them but as i was getting a quote online it said in small print at the bottom that additional excesses will apply as i am an ;inexperienced driver'.thanks for your reply though.x

if it makes you feel any better, i'm 19, my excess is £450... insurance £1200.. it gets worse my boyfriends excess is £750... insurance £2400 i'm sure whatever u get is a bargin!

My son is 19, been driving 2 years and still pays over £3,000 and has an excess of £700.
Hes just had a quote come in for over £6,000.

Ive been driving 3 years, got 2 years NCB (lost first year after a claim for malicious damage to my car) and its just cost me £700 for a years fully comp on a corsa SRi 1.4i and i sat all day getting quotes and that was the cheapest, some were coming in at £2,000.

Try looking on compaire the market or money supermarket.com

Just done Kays with Tesco's they were £950 cheeper then anyone else, excess £100 which is the same as mine.
Don't get your break down cover with your insurance get it separate but do take the legal cover.
My breakdown is with a company called nci, Paul and I are covered for any bike or car we are with, road assist, breakdown and accident and all for £68 a year, we do our bike and car insurance with them but they are only bril for insurance if you are over 25.

Have been with Direct Line since 1997, and they've always covered me to drive other people's cars.

Hiya,
I'm with a company called DNaA insurance, I think they are very good price and customer service wise.

When I first got insured just over 2 years ago, I was insured on a 1.6 Fiesta Ghia which was a very nippy little car and this was my first car.
I think my insurance came in at a bout £500 and something with a £100 excess.

There is a thing called Pass Plus which is a bit like an advanced course of extra lessons. You get a very good discount on your insurance if you do it, but I think you have to do it in the first year you pass.

I also checked with my insurance when I arranged it that I would be insured to drive other cars and they said I would.

thats fine hun,do you have there website as its still worth a try? thankyou.xx

ive just tried direct line and they also do a compulsory excess for drivers under 25 and it doesnt say anything about them covering me to drive other peoples cars.so i might have to phone them and see what they say.x

ive just phoned direct line and they wont cover me to drive other peoples cars either because im under 25yrs even though i have 4yrs no claims.
it makes me so  because i would've been better off just going on my parents policy till i was 25 then started my own as everything seems to go by age rather than ncd.
i feel that my 4yrs no claims have just been a waste of time!

I'm insured with Direct Choice, by far the cheapest quote I could find. I don't know what their policy is regarding your specific questions, but it may be worth a look. Direct Choice

Ouch, sorry to hear that :(

They must have tightened up on young drivers loads in the last 10 years or so! I did have to have a compulsory excess of £250 on my policy back then, but they've always let me drive other people's cars, so I don't know what's going on with that!

Hi, I am over 25 (only a little bit!), so I dont know about insurance for younger drivers, but I found the Post Office to be a damn sight cheaper than anyone else, I passed my test 2 and a bit years ago, and as a new driver most companies wanted to charge me an arm and a leg. The post office gave me a good quote (£600 compared to over £1000 for the others) and they cover me to drive other cars.

On my insurance policy, as I have fully comp insurance I can drive any car with the owner's permission, but I would only be covered third party. Hth's.
