started my course last night and was sooooo exited, then the lecturer explained that due to the feedback from previous student who felt there was too much work to do, they have cut out a lot of areas, so basically will only be learning leg and underarm.....I am gutted, does anyone know of any educators in the fife area that teach waxing so that I could learn facial and bikini??
pants....feeling a bit deflated.....

Well that is just stupid! Too much work to do? Surely the lecturers should be focusing on providing comprehensive training instead of pandering to the moanings of work-shy students!!!

Thats a shame,

I started my wax course on Monday at Clydebank college in clydebank just outside Glasgow - I dont know if that would be to much travelling for you ... i think its over an hour travelling . The course is VTCT and covers legs under arm, bikini and facial .

Hope you find somewhere that does it all.

Thanks

Hmm, I am being sceptical now, and am wondering if the lecturers are using that student feedback as an excuse to cut the course content back (thus saving the college money) but charging you the same amount for the course as it would have been with the original content!

Well thats's just silly.

Central College in Glasgow city centre also do a depilation course. NQ Depilation. All courses started this week so you might have missed the first class but I'm sure you'd be able to catch up.

did they tell you they had cut the course before you paid in full? Otherwise I'd be complaining and wanting a refund. You can't just train in 2 body areas and leave it at that. Not acceptable.

Hi Ruth,

I find that astonishing as you would think that anyone booking the course would be grateful to learn as much as possible rather than complain about too much work?

I know Loubylou is coming to Glasgow soon, and she is also doing some wax training that weekend. Maybe PM her and have a chat with her?

Thats exactly my thoughts, its an evning course once a week, why do a course if you dont want to do the work?? and with a whole week in between to do assesments and project etc, I feel it's more than enough, I was ready and raring to go..

Thanks for the thought, clydebank is a wee bitty too far, will have a search and see if there are any private educators that could top my skills up a wee bit down the line, I will have done the health and saftey, and learned about hair growth and cycle etc, so maybe I wouldnt have to do a full course.....

What nonsense! I would at the bare minimum want a partial refund as you are not going to be receiving what you paid for, i.e. training in ALL areas. Take the course outline to them & point out that if you aren't receiving the whole training then you shouldn't have to pay the whole amount for it. Also ask them how on earth you are supposed to be ready to perform the service commercially without full training - I have yet to see a salon that waxes only legs & underarms!!

Well said!!! If you sign up and pay for a course that promises to offer a particular set of training and then find they are only offering a cut-down syllabus, you have every right to complain and seek at least a partial refund in my opinion!!!

you will all be shocked to hear that they actually put the price up!! from £63 to £75 and we were only told that last night, the first night! I know its not a huge amount of money but I agree tht its not fair to only teach half a course, I have found a lady that teaches itin the next town, for everything its £200, maybe she could just teach me the facial and bikini?? she is away on holiday untill the 7th sep will get in contact with her then, would love to be able to travel to glasgow etc but its so far, with 3 kids and a hubby that works a lot, evening classes fitted in well with me...its just poo lol..

Right, they are really taking the mickey now! Increasing the price yet removing large swathes of the course content! I think you have reason to demand a full refund. If they refuse, threaten to take them to court under the Trade Descriptions Act!

Wow, that seems a bit...ridiculous.

The option I have been given by the college is, if there was space, and I was keen enough they may be able it " infill " me into the full time beauty, to learn the other parts, but thats through the day adn I am not sure if they would be wanting further fee's for that, they explained that it wasnt their decision, but the " big bosses " some governing body that decides curiculem ( I should do a spelling course I know!! ) and course material etc, the lecturers were not even told of the change untill a few weeks back when they returned after the summer holidays, it's so anoying that people with lazyitus have ruined it for the people that genuinly want to learn and are willing to put the time effort and work into doing so, grrrrrrrrrr

That is so daft! It would make more sense if the lazy drop-outs just didn't bother turning up, leaving the people who want to learn to have a better lecturer/student ratio. But then the lazy slobs would probably get their benefits docked or something...

I wonder if maybe a lot of people failed waxing different areas? This can be quite common if there is a poor pass rate or a lack of people taking up certain courses (tbh, it says to me the teachers should teach better and make it more interesting!). And obviously, lots of people failing looks bad on their figures

It's a joke if it's because people were workshy though - would be brilliant if every time something was difficult or time consuming you could just look at it and go "naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, it's too much work"

Aye, failure isn't an option! Makes the Government look bad and upsets the politically correct brigade to boot!

Oh yes, I'd expect brand training to attract almost exclusively people who genuinely want to learn, whereas that's not always the case with college training unfortunately...
