My friend informed me she for a full set of Shellac nails done 2 weeks ago for 7.50, this was only if she had a full set of eyelash extensions. I asked how much they were and she said £15, I asked what type and she said "weekend lashes" I've never heard of these before, when my friend turned up for the hen weekend we were going on her lashes looked no different, and then she said oh I get MOD discount too. So I only paid for the nails. So £7.50 for shellac nails and lashes. X

That's just ridiculous! Either no profit being made or Not actually shellac.. Or both more then likely!

It's annoying because alot of people will go to her instead of people like us, thank god for the regulars and those who know what's good! X

That's ridiculous!! I thought £10 was absurd but 5? It surely costs more than that in product if she is using the real stuff?

So some people are happy that it costs them to work? Let them. They won't be around for long ( and may just get some clients hooked on having their nails done....better!)

That's not really acceptable for regular polish let alone Shellac!

I doubt she's professional, she won't last long, but it's worrying when people will stop going to her and blame the product when in actual fact it's the way she performs the service that's wrong. :smack:

Just nosing and there's a pic of her holding a bottle of cco... ugh.

There's a girl I know who hasn't done a course and just gone and bought some Gelish products from sallys (I don't know how!!!!) and it's doing nails for £10!!! It's is FUMINGGGG me!!!! Xx

I'm a hairdresser, but also offer eyelash extensions. I'm currently not charging for them as I need to learn and gain experience! (Also, I have confidence issues and don't think I'm that good!)

For the same reason I'm charging 30£. I'm not that bad to do it for free, but not that good yet to do it for 60£, and materials cost money anyway

Ive just spotted someone from sg doing gel polish for £7.50, its a shame as ive looked through her work and its really good xx

Ok so today I am going to have a rant about all those Beauticians and Nail Technicians out there cheapening the Beauty Industry with their low prices and constantly under cutting each other!!!

I think it is great to set up your own business, I have done it I own a salon and have 3 members of staff who are excellent not only at their treatments but their customer care also, which mean we have repeat business and a loyal customer base!! it just really annoys me to see on Facebook people offering Shellac at £12.50 !! EBW £3, Full body Massage £10 come on!! what is that about!! I know you want customers but being ridiculously cheap is not the answer the industry used to be luxury, now it is getting a little bit too bargain basement for my liking !!

Sorry if I offend any one but just getting fed up !! :irked:

I feel u there...someone contacted me on fb today about my prices. When I told her im charging £20 for a set of pink and white as im doing a special offer on acrylics till the end of the month, she told me she was going to someone she found on fb who was doing acrylics for £10, but wasnt very good, so would I do it for that instead.

I thought I was being to cheap this month but this really got my back up. When I explained I couldnt go any lower she told me to forget about it!!

I know what you mean, I'm finding it really hard at the minute as I'm only just starting out and trying to figure out pricing and everywhere is doing gels for a tenner, one place down the road was doing them for £7.50!
Im hoping they are just special offers and theyll go back up as I'm not going to be able to afford to keep going if that is the competitions regular prices!

That is so bad. It really annoys me. Why does she think she's only paying a tenner - she said it herself they weren't that good. People need to realise that if they want a quality treatment they pay for it.

It is also driving me nuts! I just started I'm June, done ok got some clients but been quiet this week, salons charge less than me and I'm mobile, I think it's ridiculous, I don't think they understand that lowering their prices don't do them any good!! Ugh! People do compare your prices to others as well.

There's several threads here about it and they all say the same thing - don't go too cheap! I use the best products and my clients are happy with services and overall standards - why should I be any cheaper? Client who looks for the cheapest service is not my client, it will never be loyal to me and will vanish as soon as someone else charges 1 penny less then me - I let them go, I don't want them. Also low prices ruin your reputation - I never go to the cheapest places as they are cheap for a reason and I like certain standards. Keep your prices and good work as normal, there's no point to be a busy fool, like someone already said here :)

I can see this from all angles...I have a hair salon with 6 staff who I have to pay regardless whether they are busy or not. .I have used groupon twice in two years. . I done this knowing full well I would not make any money from it. ..but the customer retention and the retail sales rocketed and I still have 80% of the customers to this day. .Mondays we have mythic Monday. ..a L'oreal conditioning treatment, cut and blow dry for £15... The salon is fully booked weeks in advance. .I am slowly watching the other hair salons fail and shut around me.. There are more hair and beauty salons around than I have ever seen before and not only that the stylists that work from home or are mobile also kill the highstreet salons....I am not a hairdresser either I just own one.

I was in the process of opening up a beauty salon next to my hairdressers which would be specialising in CACI, environ skin care and Jane Iredale make up....but I made a decision a few weeks ago to cut my losses and move it to my home. ..I then have no overheads, no staff issues, no HMRC payments, high rents etc and I can work when it suits me......would I be charging 7.50 for eyelash extensions? ? No. ..purely because I would be competing with too many others around me... so for me personally I need to offer something different and more upmarket to gain the loyal clientele that will spend the money. One hour advanced treatment for £80 or one hour eyelash extensions for £8....hmmmm.......no disrespect to all you fabulous therapists. ...I just don't have the motivation for eyelashes or waxing.... there is no money to be made there. .
