I'm in a bit of a quandry at the moment:rolleyes:, I have watched many videos and seen many tutorials about sculpting and p&w's with tips, but my question is do u decant your powders from their main pot into a smaller one to prevent cross contamination??
When I was taught I was told that you should decant into a smaller pot and top it up as required or if its been in the smaller pot for just over a week then I should be thrown away, is this right?
In some of the vids I have seen many people use their powders straight from their container.
Help
Thanks

hi
i use them straigh from the pot, this is the way i was taught, i suppose everyone is different
tracy

I trained with Magnetic and and NSI. I was told that the only reason people decant their powder is just incase they drip monomer into it. It then doesn't ruin the whole tub of powder.

I have to confess, because I do not bead (I prefer to draw my acrylic so that I just load one side of my brush) I tend not to decanter my powder.

Hope this helps

Natalie

Thanks thats great. I thought it was a bit of a waste to have to throw it away.

Your welcom. Glad I can be of service. x

I use 1 oz pots and decant into these as and when required from 16 oz pots....never had a problem gunking up my powders....if you are working at the correct ratio for your product, you shouldn't have a problem with your powders. HTH

If you dontmind me asking, why do u decant ur powders?

If I was working out of two 16oz pots on my desk, I'd get in a bit of a mess, not to mention the size of the pots on the desk lol....I find the 1 oz pots are an ideal size to work from.

so its nothing to do with contaminating ur product??
I know its a silly question, but I was told that if u worked straight from the pot it would contaminate it, is this true?

Nothing to do with contaminating product....if you're working at the correct ratio and not dropping wet beads or monomer into your powders plus putting the lids back on when you have finished using them, you shouldn't have an issue with contamination of any sort.

better not to have all your powder in 1 pot just in case you knock it over.
if you have some spare you'll be o.k but you'd be in trouble if you knocked it over and the whole pot went.

perhaps i am uber cautious:lol:
i am rather clumsy though:irked:

i buy the biggest sizes and pour into 1oz pots for my desk.

i decant purely for more room on my desk,

and also yes i have knocked over my last remaining powder lol
