Hiya,

Just a quick question - how many nail techs out there use CND L&P and use an electric file? Just i do (in a NICE way - no ridges, damaged cuticles, burning, etc!), and i'm booking a one to one session with my local CND trainer and i'm worried i'll get told off!

I am a creative tech and i use an electric file when doing my rebalances to save my poor wrists,
there was talk of creative running a course on this in the future so i don't think you will be told off as long as you are trained to use one hth

You think so? I've used one since i became a nail tech 4 years ago, and although i don't have any course training for it, i got trained on the job, and like i say, i'm nice with it!

There was also talk about there being a module when doing the Nail Enhancement NVQ regarding the use of efiles. I think this is when Creative were talking about doing a training course with the efiles. I didn't have to do it when I did my NVQ but I was told by my examiner that it would be brought in later in 2007.

I have one myself and use it for rebalance to save my wrist too. I get dead arm when I am using an abrasive file for any length of time. I did my training for my efile with NSI, at the time they seemed the only centres that were offering the training.

why don't you ring up and have a chat before you go? its YOUR money and best not to arrive feeling nervous about this issue.it may also be a good time to just revisit hand filing while you're on your 1-2-1. although my last cnd 1-2-1 was to improve my sculpting - i just learnt so much about everything!
good luck

Thanks Tracy, very good point about the £! The trainer is ringing me back tomorrow so will have to mention it then!

No CND ambassador is going to 'tell you off' for using an efile.

Personally I think CND is the last product in the world anyone has to use an efile with but that is your choice.

CND ambassadors are not in the habit of criticising their customers but we do come at application from a different angle to any other training establishments and believe that learning good techniques with your brush will save you from having to file excessively by hand or by efile.

Creative L&P is feels completely different to other l&P's. It is not like concrete and is so much easier to work with ... that is one of the reasons technicians love it so much. TRY IT ... you'll see.

Hey, you have probably already had your training with CND... How did it go?...

Did you learn allot?

I read a few tutorials on here by gigi and I am happy to say that I did my first French rebalance white tip without the e file in almost the same amount of time!!

I did 7 and a full set yesterday at work and ... my arm to killing me!!! LOL.. but I think once I get a better grip and get used to the new filing I will be ok. I also found that my nails were a much better shape and thickness when I had finished.

Let me know how you went with CND.

I am booking my self on a CND class here in Australia as soon as I can get the money together.

I use an efile but only during rebalances and even then not every time. My own nails (esp. gel) are most often quicker and easier to file by hand all the way; when working on other techs' nails (almost all of them seem to be thicker than mine for some reason) I use the efile to shorten the nail and reduce the product. Still I finish off by hand, I'd never go anywhere near the natural nail with the drill.

After applying new product there's not much to file and I wouldn't trust the efile in finishing anyway.

I'm sure you know too how to use your efile safely so no one (but an odd client!) can tell you off.

Almost forgot to say.. I always ask my client (especially if she's new to me)before I grab the efile if I may use it. Some prefer hand filing because of former -mental or physical- trauma, or the noise just reminds them of a dentist..

I have a few clients that have been to NNS here is Australia and they are scared stiff of it.. they love french and would rather soak off and start again... I make sure that they get extra time booked in so that i can hand file.. One lady didn;t tell me and she broke into a sweat and her fingers were stiff and i could not move them around....I knew by the first nail she was not coping....
You are very right I should have asked her first

Thank you everyone. I'm just worried i suppose about trying to switch over to hand filing, my times are so good i think cos of using the e-file and don't want to slow myself down. Will have to see what the trainer thinks of it all i suppose. I've been with my e-file for 4 years now and i'm pretty attached to it!

Lucy You will be fine.
Just try and listen to your educator and see was he/she has to say.. They are up with all the new "ways" and I am sure you will be able to do both. There is nothing wrong with an e file if you know how to use it and your clients,as you said, don't mind.

You know, and i am prob repeating myself, I tried to hand file a forever french infill on saturday and it didn't make much more than 10mins to do it by hand using geeg tutorial... plus I think now doing it both ways you have more freedom with the smile line when you do it by hand... i know if i go off a little with the e file while making a smile i need to hand file it off a little anyway other wise they are out of shape...
stop stressing and enjoy your extra training... i am soooooo jealous.. i am still waiting for my creative educator to phone or email me back... maybe she is on holidyas..
Maybe i will phone interstate to the australia importer... they are in Queensland.
Good luck sweet.

Lucy where are you doing your training? I can't imagine any of our Ambassadors 'getting mad'.. Geeg put it really well below. If using en efile during rebalance helps you then so-be-it. But maybe we can show you tecniques that may help in that area! :Look_righ:biggrin::Look_left ;)

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I was trained to use the electric file and sometimes feel like I'm doing something terribly wrong! I learned a completely different prep and everything! Nearly three years after first learning my technique, I took a CND course and really want to change my technique, but I am constantly struggling between doing what is comfortable (what I know works) and doing what I have recently learned. It's mostly because I don't feel comfortable "practicing" on clients, if you get what I mean. "Creative Nails" is a huge selling point where I live, and I feel that if I'm going to advertise myself as a CND Tech, I be one all the way. Decisions, decisions...

You know what, Mary? Both techniques work. It's really that one is more aggressive and the other is very gentle.

CND does not enjoy the reputation it has got (not only in the area in which you live, but world wide) for no reason. People show respect to those who respect their profession and their clients' nail health.

I think it is fantastic that you are willing to look and to make the changes necessary to ensure the good health of your clients natural nails. I see this now in so many of the American nail technicians and I think you should get a BIG round of applause. It shows you are a 'smart cookie'!!

I've only ever used an efile when sorting outnails from other techs, and i have found CND much easier to file down, especially after i bought nail class book and re sorted my technique.
But all CND trainers are lovely and wont get mad.

Hiya Sam,

I'm doing my training with Wendy Leighton up in Newcastle. Think i'm worrying myself a bit unecessarily by the sounds of it! I want to do everything with hand filing but am scared!

:smack: Don't be scared - Wendy is a doll and will help you overcome any fears or worries - I promise!

Thank you all! I'm a bit more confident going into the training now!
