I did my aunties nails yesterday...it was only my third set on a real person rather than my trainer lol, anyway..with the exception of a couple of very curved beds...most of her nails were quite flat and wide...quite sort of round nails..not short but just quite round, and she wanted white tips and rounded, so thats what i gave her.

My question is.....although she was pleased (i think!lol)...something doesnt look quite right about them to me...:irked: can anyone tell me how i could of shaped and enhanced them better?? she wanted them rounded but should i have done them more almondy shaped...or squarer, or is it the smile line...would that have been better a bit straighter..rather than curved? Or are the tips too white for her?

Hi I dont know if its just the angle of the picture but the little finger lookes straighter down the sidewalls I think mb that would have looked a bit better wouldnt have made the nails look so wide. hth..xx
But for your third set I think they look really good hunny ..xx

IMO they'd look even better if you made her nail beds a bit longer,
but absolutely not bad for your third set, hun

I think as your aunts nail beds are flat and square looking i would have given her a more almond looking shape, this would have given the apperance of longer nails insread of the short stumpy wide look you have now.
Also try using a coverage pink to make the nail look longer, that way if you use white tips you dont have to place it as far down the nail. (or natural tips)

For only your 3 full set on a human you have done a good job chick and im sure in no time you will have corrected the little inperfections you seem to know about. Well done

ooooh long time no see!!. I reckon they are ace!! I reckon you just need to extend the nail bed a tad next time I have done this too lol you have probably seen my pics of my clients short nail beds but i learnt from it. I cant believe its your 3rd set on real hands, they are fabaroonie!!!! xxx and is that a EzFlow towel I spy?

Doesn't look quite right to me either.

I do not think that using white tips and then creating a deep smile has enhanced the look of these nails, which is the object of the exercise.
I would have followed her natural smile line, and used a natural powder for the free edge.

On hands that look as though they have seen allot of good hard work (bless) and are mature as well, I do not think it improves the overall look of them ... it emphasises all the points you do not want to emphasise.

Did you know that enamel on a mature hand actually makes them look younger. French tips do not suit in my opinion.

I know you are practising but practising a more natural look would give a much better result in this case.

I couldn't agree more with Gigi (dont faint Gigi ha ha) I would never ever white tip hands like these (no disrespect to your auntie). Stick to the natural tip and varnish or use coloured gel or l&p. Bring the sides in so they dont look so hippy and you will be amazed at your work. Nice try though.

Good luck

Hi thanx very much to everyone for your feedback....I do appreciate honesty and constructive critisism it helps me no end :green:

Just to clarify I did offer my aunty a natural finish as well but she really wanted the bright white tip and I did use pink powder over the whole lot to try tone it down a bit bit as you can see...it didnt tone it down at all lol...so would you refuse to do a white tip on 'mature' hands even if they really wanted them?

I would never refuse to do anything a client wanted on her nails, but I would have a good go at explaining why something else would look better or worse on them and giving them alternate choices; that is part of our job a professional nail enhancement consultant.

Most clients have no idea what will suit them or not and most don't know what choices are available to them. They see porn star nails in the magazines and think that is the only choice they have (one reason so many potential clients don't come into the salon). Some have no idea that nail enhancements can look so natural even their friends couldn't tell!

Best to learn all the options and to learn to advise your clients and have examples for them to see (pictures etc). Then of course, you have to be able to deliver the goods to them!
