Hi

I am mainly a nail geek but i have qualified in waxing and now offer it as one of my services, but i am having trouble with eyebrow wax.

I keep reading and going through my notes that i got in training, but i am struggerling at apply the wax ( i mainly do them with the client sat up as i offer a mobile service) to the brow it seems to run everyone. I apply to my spatular and when i go and put on the skin it runs a little (not alot) and i cant seem to get and definition on the brow. I first thought that it was because i was maybe having the wax to warm but when i test it on my rest it doesnt seem to be that warm at all. Any help or advice on where i am going wrong :)

I was going to suggest that the wax may be a bit hot, maybe turning it down just a wee tad would help. I think eyebrows is probably one of the hardest things to wax, no room for mistakes :-o...I think it's just time and practice, over time you get better and more confident with the wax, better to remove too little and then tweeze the rest than to take too much off, grab your friends anf family and practice on them lol hth x

Hi, don't know if this helps but, I use a plastic orange stick. a bit smaller than spatular and gives you better control. (easy to wipe so no problems with double dipping).

I use eyebrow waxing spats and hot wax. I dont butt up to the eyebrow i leave a small gap, then tidy the hairs on the brow with tweezers

Hi,
I use those thin wooden coffee stirring stick that are in Macdonalds, I get mine from catering wholesalers !!!!
They work a treat, just the right size.
I always leave a small gap so not butting right up to where I want to go, then tweeze remainder.
Could you not use some type of neck cushion, then client could lie head further back? I do mine with client lay down, only do it on myself sat up and it can be difficult.
Practice as much as you can.
Good luck Hun

thanks everyone, what kind of wax would you recommend, the one i have got at the min is a creme wax X

I think you must be applying too thick for it to be running anywhere.I apply very thinly with the client on couch, laid back Maybe time for you to buy a couch given you now offer waxing:idea:.Apply the smallest amount then spread out with your spat/orange stick.Having it too hot(as mentioned)should not make any difference(as long as correct temperature)as good wax controle should be able to cope with cool or hot wax..personally I would rather it runny as I can get my wax really thin.Practice makes perfect.HTH:hug:

ps I like Clean and Easy but any wax does the job.I have used several and have no probs...

i would make sure they lying down to be honest if you cant buy a couch at moment do it on there bed or their couch. i used to use the mcdonalds spat as well lol, but i now split my spatula in middle as it creates a shape to the spatula that helps you angle it. i was like you years ago the thought of doing eyebrows scared the hell out me i love them now and love doing eyebrows that never been done and get to reshape them all. take your time i use to do it in two when i first started by doing the edge then the rest off if this makes sense but dont overlap the wax as you can cause a burn. xx

I would do eyebrows with the client laying down on the couch - best position for the client and your back! I found it best to use non - strip wax as its most comfortable for the client, and caring for the skin.
Its easy to apply and get the form right and its most certainly not runny so you dont have any danger of it running into the eybrow.

It's much easier to do it while the client is laying down, especially while you are still learning.
Get yourself a couch hun. xxx

"I use those thin wooden coffee stirring stick that are in Macdonalds"

Eek! Not trying to hijack this thread - they may be free - but are they clean? Did the person who put them out drop them on the floor / forget to wash his hands after the loo, or member of public finger them?

Small sticks are available at little cost from the wholesalers. I'd urge you to consider them

Jason.

the sticks you buy at the wholesale arent exactly in sterile packing either:eek: they are only coffee stirrers good to start off when you first start off waxing, i dont use them now but when i did had no problem with them.

At least when we buy spats/orange sticks from the wholesalers they aren't being handled by people eating burgers and the like. Neither will be packaged in sterile conditions but the thought of using coffee/tea stirrers that may have been dropped on the floor, handled by goodness knows who etc doesn't inspire me at all.Plus I personally would be embarassed as a professional to be seen using a macci D's coffee stirrer to do my waxing.:green:

Also I can think of nothing more unprofessional than asking a client to lay on their bed whilst you wax them.I cannot imagine asking any of my clients if we can go into their bedroom, get them to lay down on their bed whilst waxing is performed.I keep seeing ridiculous comments like this and it's no wonder some people are complaining of lack of clients.

As therapists we should have the correct equipment to do the job,it is possible to do a lip/chin or eyebrow wax with the client sitting(if disabled for instance)but asking them to go to their bedroom is a huge invasion of privacy and then to ask them to lay down on their bed....Hmmmm I know what my answer would be if I ever needed waxing to be carried out on me should a therapist suggest this.

Im sorry if I seem to have lost it a bit but its not very good at all,we are professionals and this is a professional site. Can you imagine going to a salon and walking into a treatment room and there not being a couch? We also MUST think of our backs, imagine if you have no couch and think you will perform your eyebrow wax on the clients bed and then the client decides she wants a full leg and b/k wax as well,do several of them a day on a clients bed and I guarantee your back will be shot.Anyway, just my opinion:)

i was only suggesting that she use clients bed to do the eyebrow wax until she got her bed as she is just starting out i have plenty of clients and i have my own bed for your information. she not in the salon she is mobile of course you wouldt do this in a salon. i am very proffessinal thank you very much as well. and dont like been mocked!!!!

Good for you love,my point is would you have plenty of clients if carrying out treatments on a clients bed, eyebrow wax or not,it doesn't matter,it would be unprofessional.I know what I would say to a therapist(should I ever have the need to have one come to the house)if she said she needed to use my bed...even if it were only a 5 min treatment.

As for your comment,'she not in salon she is mobile',that shouldn't make any difference really, people expect the same from us be it mobile or salon based.

I wasn't mocking,I have been in this profession a long time, have done both mobile and salon so am speaking from experience.Btw we are all entitled to our opinions, the poster is new to waxing yes,but then go buy a bed or get client to sit if possible.I was new once but never would have dreamt of asking client to lay on her bed.

Sometimes its just how we write things, sorry if I sounded harsh,I dont mean to sound like this, just needed to stipulate if going into clients house not to use their beds.If family and friends then on the couch, bed or floor wherever lol.Just watch your backs.:hug:xx

Other people before have mentioned using the ones from MacDonalds and i've always found this astounding! People are handling them all day and god knows where their hands have been
I do use coffee stirrers sometimes and have a big box of them. You can buy them yourself but please don't get them from MacDonalds.
Here is where i got mine from;
Wooden Coffee and Tea Stirrers 5.5 inch (1000 stirrers) :: Discount Coffee

Sorry but i am in fits here I cant actually believe some people use coffee stirers from mc donalds!! If people are really that hard up for business that they need to pinch stirers from mc donalds then I think its time for a career change!
