Glitter from a craft store for nails?

I did glitter toes on a client yesterday and she had brought her own glitter to use. It was glitter that she just bought from a craft store. Do any of you know if there is a difference between buying the glitter from the nail company, or buying it from a craft store? Is it all the same?

Hi not sure but i would thin the glitter is finer from nail specialists, but i could be wrong. Did they turn out ok?:hug:

You can run the risk of your monomer melting the glitter from a craft shop.
With glitters bought from Nail companies/Distributors then you would obviously not have that worry or problem.

The Art Institute Pee Wee glitters i've seen are ultra fine and theirs many collections to choose from:lol: So you could probably give them a try and see how they work. Their monochromatic to:lol: :lol:​

I have a TONNE from arts and crafts stores. But haven't tried with L&P yet. Will have to wait and see. I guess it all depends on 'what' type of glitter it is, and what it's made of?

i've used glitters from craft shops and hey work fine...you need to mix more glitter to powder for a more solid tip..also some glitter can file off the colour so you may need to cap it with clear to prevent this

I did use some glitters from the craft shop, but if not careful, you can file the colour off, nfu-oh do a wicked range of fine art glitters, I have some neon ones on atm, and I'm very impressed with them, they do a good range of stuff:hug:

I tried some glitter from the craft store and found that some of them bleed/run. The colour isn't as sharp.

i use eyeshadows and body glitters all the time and they look fab my teacher told me only 15% body glitter or whatever your adding the rest should be the actual powder.

nsi do a whole line of glitters,

i have a few and there great, really nice colours and probably about the same price as glitter from hobbycraft or somewhere like that

i use glitters from a cake shop,they do more of a range of colours then some nail places.ive got lots of pics in my albums of nails ive done using them and i havent had any problems.x

I have also noticed the previously mentioned "bleeding" of glitters bought from craft stores. I tried to do nails with black glitter (using gel) and the glitter would sort of lose its colour and the gel I used became black-ish... Not a pretty result.

Then again, I´ve tried some that work perfectly fine, so I guess it´s up to the nail system one uses and especially the glitter.
I wonder though, how are people suppose to create all that artsy stuff with them, if they give up their color when mixed with a solvent... :|

i've posted about this before (i feel very passionately about it lol). theres absolutely no difference...glitter is glitter... the glitter you buy from nail art companies is still craft glitter, they just put it in pretty color mixes and special packaging and then sell it for about 5x as much (sorry if that offends anyone... but its true!!) there are cheaper craft glitters and sometimes the color will melt off in your monomer, but the better quality craft glitters are the same thing you get from nail companies... you'll get tons more and pay way less, you just might have to be creative and mix some color combinations yourself. as far as filing silver, any metalic glitter will file silver (even nail glitters), the glitter that doesnt file silver is polyester glitter becuase its colored all the way through (its at the craft stores too!!!) hth

I have to warn you - today I completely managed to screw up one clients enhancements because I used a glitter bought from craft store, and oh my lord did it leak! All the color just bled off, the enhancement, clients fingers and mine were full of the color from the glitter, after I wiped of the sticky inhibition layer...:grr:
The gel didn´t even properly cure because of the glitter I used. So the end result was supposed to be colorful glitter tips - and we got some sliver slush with all the color everywhere else but where it was supposed to be.

I don´t know which one was more unhappy, the client or me.
I cut 20% off the service cost as we had no time to fix the whole nails again (and had wasted 3 hours all together trying and failing to correct the mess). I also gave her a free gift and promised to do a free rebalance, if she wants me to. I doubt she will want one, as she probably thinks I don´t even know my products (which is true with that bloody glitter)!

So from now on I will only use the quality glitters that I know to do their job. End of story.

PS. The brand of the glitter was RICO Design.
My advice: AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!!! :evil:
