I have greasy skin. I wash my face with dermalogica cleanser morning and night, a spray toner and active moist moisturiser. And still i put my makeup on at 0700 and by 1000 my makeup is sliding off my face.

I have the same problem with my hair, i wash with kerestase shampoo that is supposed to be for greasy roots and dry ends, i still have to wash my hair everyday.

Help, im trying as much as i can to help myself.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Cant speak for hair as not hairdresser.

Have you been to a professional salon and actually had your skin analysed? If it is oily as you state, you could try switching brands to a more active range such as MD formulations which is brilliant for oily skin. As far as cosmetics are concerned, you should try a mineral make up range such as bare escentuals or bare minerals as these both give really good staying power, and will help combat your problems.

I know how that one goes... I'm the same as you :) oily skin, oily hair (good thing is we don't wrinkle up as much).

I use Garnier Fructis shampoo & conditioner for oily hair. So far it's been the only one that has me not have to wash my hair every day.

I had a facial several years back and found out that the moisturiser I was using was wrong for my skin type, it was actually being absorbed into my skin too quickly, leaving my skin dry (go figure!) and my face was producing more oil to compensate. I confess I do like to use aloe vera gel on my face b/c it heals as well as moisturises - but you might find this not to your taste.

Mineral makeups are good b/c they help to absorb the oils on your skin (the more natural/less chemicals the better).

Good luck :green:

You sound like me!
I put a thread on here about my hair and I was recommended to use Clynol Clear shampoo, this one Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy Salon Supplies - Capital Hair & Beauty Ltd - Clynol I D Clear Shampoo 1 Litre
I tried Kerastase shampoo, and found it too heavy for my hair.

For your skin, you should go to a reputable salon and have a skin consultation. It may be that the products you're using are stripping the skin of too much sebum, which will make your skin think it's dry and overproduce sebum, hence the extreme oiliness. My skin has improved vastly since I switched to Decleor (the ylang ylang range). It's expensive, but so worth the money, and it lasts for ages. But you should really go to a salon and let someone have a look at it. It's very hard to give proper advice without actually seeing you.

Thanks all for your messages, i have been to a salon which is where i got my dermalogica stuff from. But it just isnt doing the job.
I will keep looking round for other products and try ones that you have suggested thankyou.

I would maybe look more at your make up than your skincare if this is your main worry, its adifficult task to suddenly change your natural skin type ..age normally sorts out greasy skin just fine.Just remember its the best sort of skin to have long term:)
Im no make up expert but i know there are certain ranges or bases that will help.Im sure someone on here will be able to advise.

I can't speak for the hair, but which Dermalogica cleanser are you using? As far as the moisturizer goes, perhaps you should be using the Oil control lotion instead of the active moist.

Dermal Clay Cleanser & Multi Active Toner.
I was thinking about possibly changing the moisturiser to the medibac one.

Do you have a lot of breakouts as well or just oily skin? The clearing skin wash is good too, and the moisturizer helps to absorb the oil. You could use the Dermal clay in the morning and your clearing skin wash in the evenings.

Hello!
Your post could have been written about me! I wake up in the morning and my skin is slippery, yuk!! Personally, dermalogica didn't work for me. When I was at college, they took me and another student who had similar acne prone, oily skin and put us both on dermalogica (I think we were some sort of experiment, lol!) and it worked really well for the other student and seemed to make mine worse! I work with Decleor now and really like the ylang ylang and aroma purete range, they keep my skin nice and matte during the day, but I wake up with new spots every morning! I may be speaking out of turn here, and geeks, please tell me if I am for going off the topic of skincare, but have you considered it being to do with your contraceptive pill (if you are on one?) I have changed mine about 10 times in the past and every time, the hormonal change has affected my skin.
Sorry to ramble, just know exactly how you feel!!

Thanks for the advise everyone. I will try the clearing wash and see what happens. I do have breakouts, not loads but the spots i do get are hard lumps rather than yellow headed beasts. (sorry its gross i know)

As for my pill, i am on the injection now i am with someone and engaged!! but for a while i wasnt on anything and still had the same problem so i dont think its that.

Its so frustrating!

I have found a mineral makeup retailer in the UK that does natural makeup.

Lily Lolo Mineral Cosmetics: Lily Lolo provide natural makeup, powders, foundation, lip gloss & makeup

You need a de greasing cleanser with minimal perfumes etc followed by an oil free moisturiser. Avoid plant based products. A pharmaceutical grade mineral make up base in either a loose or pressed powder formulation. I know I may get shot down for this but I do not rate lily lolo. Compare the minerals to pharmaceutical grade ones and you will definitely see the difference. Avoid OTC ones you can buy in places like superdrug - they are low grade minerals with high talc content.

I am really sorry lily lolo geeks, I would love to say these mineraly are great, but I do not find this.

Possible a course of medical microdermabrasion will help - followed by monthly maintenance. Can make a huge difference. X

i would try using elemis products can be expencive but very worth it. i would go with limeblossom cleanser if you like to cleanse your face or tri enzyme wash if ud prefer to wash it and follow with lavender toner, then use the sos emergency cream to moisturise. also exfoliate and mask twice a week with skin buff and herbal lavender mask. as for the hair i would try useing a claryfing shampoo on your hair as they are designed to strip the oils out of your hair. hope it helps

I'm not shooting you down but I just don't agree. I've found my skin so much better since I started using Lily Lolo, it's less oily and much clearer. It may not be 'pharmaceutical grade' (if that's necessary in cosmetics) but it works.

My colleague advised me to switch to natural products as I was getting nowhere with my skin which is slightly greasy. I use products by Mama Nature and Akamuti and thus far they have been much kinder to my skin. The Mama Nature face cream in particular has been excellent and has taken away any greasiness. Even my T zone is non-oily and unless my skin has changed I can only assume it is down to my face cream. For anyone with really oily skin Mama Nature also do a lotion with jojoba oil that my colleague (who is a beautician) has been using on her clients. She said it normalizes her clients skin.

I know this sounds crazy and I am not a skin geek but I found that using a cleansing oil REALLY helped my greasy skin.

It took me a long time to get my head around this but if you are constantly trying to strip the oil and dry out your skin, your skin overcompensates by producing MORE oil. (Same with your scalp)

I love Dermalogica pre cleanse. I also use Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation and no longer have that oily sheen on my face by lunchtime.

i myself use dermalogica in my salon and would definetly recommend getting face-mapped again and ask id they can go through 'skin bar' with you this is where you'd get to use all the prescribed products on your own skin as you would at home and get to experience them before you buy (much better than just takin home a handful of samples) that way if somethings not right for you they can recommend something more suitable.
without seeing your skin i cant say for certain but from what youve said i'm thinking, precleanse, dermal clay cleanser, multiactive toner and either oil control lotion or oil free matte block.
but def go see a professional again, this service will more than likely be free :) xx

I'm with you all the way on this one. Cleansing with oil sounds so odd, but it's turned my skin around no end.
