so why did you tell them they had rung a wrong number then?why didnt you explain to them verbally the reason you didnt come to train them? if you had personally cancelled their appointment by contacting them by phone then this matter wouldnt have arisen and they would have had no reason to think that you were still honouring the booking, no ones time would have been wasted and no animosity would have been created.

Hi, I went on a Balmain colour and design course for hair extensions many years ago,
back then their criteria was as long as you are training in hairdressing and you are able to razor cut ,
then you could be given your certificate ,
which is accredited to your City & guilds NVQ ,

Balmain training was excellent , although I am not fussy on their hair ,
I love the fusion bonding method which is what they do,

I find the hair sheds far less, and their is no messy glue guns to deal with just a heat connector system

you could get in touch with Balmain
at Salons Direct and ask them is this still the same criteria ,

I honestly think that you really should have lots of cutting experience behind you
because cutting a head full of extensions
is not as simple as cutting on a normal head of hair ,
you really do need an experienced eye for it  x minky

Can definitely vouch for KM hair extensions being a brilliant company, thats who i trained with when i did mine :) i learnt 2 different methods of extensions (pre-bonded & micro rings), everything possible was covered on the course and they came to train in salon... plus i got a nice discount for booking online hehe :D

Hi Jen, please could you tell me if getting insurance after training with KM Hair Extentions was straight forward. Thinking of doing this course!!

If you ring a couple of insurance companies up they will tell you what is required. Try Salon Gold, I am insured with them and they are excellent. Beware of some of the cheaper insurance quotes. I always check out the small print. They will give you lots of advice, but its better to shop around and get the right insurance to suit you.

Have checked with Beautyguild and they will insure with KM Hair certificate, but will check with one or two others, thanks!!

I too am looking into doing KM hair extensions, for 3 methods: pre bonded, micro links and micro link weft its £499 plus you get two kits to be able to do them. KM are HABIA accredited and I have read good testimonials for them. They are the best value company I have found so far.

I looked in to LUSH US hair extensions also and there training is slightly cheaper at £495 for all methods plus a kit, i think they also supply hair which is good. has anyone trained with them??

Also looked at Home - Academy of Vocational & Professional Training Ltd but as well as the training you have to pay for a model and the cost was quite pricey x

Academy of Vocational & Professional Training Ltd i have been told it is owned by Diane Shaw, who once had eloquent hair or something like this and ripped a lot of people off.

I do not know about lush, I think they are really new to it all.

I have done a few hair extension course and after I did the London hair one I was very unconfident so I did the km hair extension course and it was excellent, i would recommend km hair extension training to anyone, they are approved, specialise in training, very knowledgeable (compared to any other course i have done), and insurable! I missed my tube so was over half an hour late, but they was really cool about it which helped my nerves when i did arrive. I also met some great girls on the course and some of them was from here on the geek world, which was fab xx:D

i was looking at doing an hair extension course as i am starting hairdressing at college *fingers crossed* in september :D so thought it would be a great add on that would work well mobile as the equipment and amount of it are very easy to transport.

i messaged km hair a couple of times aswell as sending them follow up messages to ask if the original messages had been received and didn't get a reply back at all. not even some kind of auto message to tell me they were for eg. super busy with emails and would be intouch shortly. i was very dissapointed with the lack of communication - i guess it's something to bare in mind if the company can't even be bothered to reply to messages, are they going to be much help if you are stuck after doing the training? x

Personally I have trained with KM and Lush Us and would recommend Lush Us.
They aren't new to the training market and have been training for a while.
They have a great attitude, lovely products and excellent customer service too.
I would highly recommend them.
Also you train on a real person, whereas with KM you train on a plastic training head which is nothing like doing the real thing.
Hope this helps.
Sarah

Im not a trained hairdresser so need a course where this does not matter and KM assure me that by doing the 3 methods above I shouldnt have any trouble.
x

Hi .... with all due respect .... then if your not a hairdresser ...... you will struggle and worry about the the cutting .... and will always have trouble cutting and blending your extensions ,
you will learn to place them in to make them look ok or put colours together to make them look kinda blended
and they will always just look kinda ok !.....but they will never quite have that professional swish and finish to them,

plus your clients and others will notice they lack that certain natural swish and movement about them .... which only a professional hairdresser can achieve by cutting and blending hair extensions so the hair has versatility to style and re style it with ease ....

Hair extensions are so much harder to cut than a clients normal head of hair .... every little step in the cut will show up if you don't know what you
are doing .

It is not possible to learn enough cutting techniques or be able to master them in such a short time ....
cutting is an art,
and no two heads of hair extensions are ever the same , a lot of the cutting and blending has to be done by eye which takes training and experience .... cutting hair extensions requires so much more attention to detail where no one can afford to make a mistake with hair that costs such a lot of money and takes so much time to install

All would be hair extensionists should take persianista luclelastix and hopefully my advice too ;
Go and get trained up as a professional NVQ hairdresser first so you can be confident in all the cutting techniques and the knowledge and understanding that goes hand in hand with it ....

If you have the flair for hair extensions .....then you will also have the flair for learning to cut and blend properly .

NVQ in hairdressing is the best way to go :)

Plus if you do not get a good hair supplier your exentsions will just matt and tangle and you will find yourself knee deep in client complaints all wanting refunds .....
A lot of people may think oh hair is hair and as long as its top grade this or that or it is remi human hair .... so it will be ok .... but this is NOT SO !! .... you need to know the pitfalls about hair too

remi / remy hair and hair grades AAA are just words often used by manufactures to help you part with your money.

Also If you are going to learn from a company who also apply extensions to their own salon clients .... and you find they don't get complaints ..... and you may wonder why you do.... ( I mean you followed all their recommendations
and you have a list of hair suppliers )... but !... they may not reveal all the very best hair suppliers to you

you may find a lot of professional extensionists wont tell you much about sourcing good extension hair .... unless you are a fully qualified hairdresser!

Good extension hair is reusable and can last for years ....
it should take minimal aftercare and styling and should be easy to care for .... just like caring and doing your own hair .....

If the actual hair it takes up way too much time commitment and too much aftercare is required .... then its simply bad hair .....hth minky

AARRGGHHHH!!!!
We should immediately be telling people to get trained as a hairdresser first as it is a level 3 subject. No trainee (doing level 1 or 2 ) should be allowed to start hair extension application until qualified. Let alone advising people how to train whilst on a hair course ( many who start dont complete training!!!)
How and why are insurance companies insuring people without a relevant hairdressing qualification to provide this service. Do they actually pay out if something goes wrong and do the rest of use carry the burden!
I will be starting an e-petition on www.no10.gov as soon as this facility is up and running again as i am sick and tired of dabblers out to make a fast buck who think there is nothing to it.
GET A HAIRDRESSING QUALIFICATION FIRST then all of us professional geeks will be more than happy to help, advise, and support.
:(:(

I am not interested in making a fast buck thank u, I know that it takes time, effort and precision to start up a business. I have trained in beauty therapy and am looking to expand with eyelash extensions, spray tanning and was looking at hair extensions as have them done regularly and thought it would be an enjoyable thing to do.

Fair enough that u think that people should be a trained hairdresser but thats not my fault that companys say you do not have to be and the standards agencys for accrediting the courses.

all u needed to say was i would recommend that you train as a hairdresser first so that you feel comfortable with cutting and blending the extensions and so companys dont rip you off.

thanks foxyemm and sarahjane, missconfused try [email protected] and speak to amanda, she has been good at getting back to me, but also try lush us.
xx

I think that word of mouth goes a long way.

It would be nice if someone has been on the the KM course could give us some feed back about it ?

As far as standards are concerned , if they are high standards and the course is delivered well and they have a good reputation then that is a good course to consider .

I believe Babtac are excellent for endorsing training courses I have heard lots of good things about Babtac :wink2:

Habia and their standards are excellent for FE Colleges and Academy's who want to be NVQ accredited like colleges ect .

There is also VTC which is another excellent name

But at the end of the day its all about choices there are lots of private courses around which are absolutely fantastic,

eg Salons Direct have some great private top up courses which are not endorsed by anyone but are fab ,

As long as you are a professional hairdresser you are automatically covered for hair extensions with your own hairdressing insurance I have checked out mine out and I know I am  x

i agree with you. ive done a few private courses for wigs and other things and they were fab.. they wernt accredited by im still covered . one of my courses in particular was fantastic .. better then accredited ones i did
