Hello everyone;

I haven't been on Salon Geek in a while and had a bit of a dilema.
I use Creative polish, Sticky, Ridge filler and Shiny from Creative as well.
For dryer spray I use the Solar Spray and haven't had any problems until recently.

A few clients are having issues with the polish not setting and drying after many hours of dry time. At least 5 hrs dry time after the polish application.

I am wondering if the polish or the Solar Spray has a shelf life? The polish ranges from 6 months old to 2 1/2 years old. None of it has gone thick or separated so I'm not sure what it is?

If Solar Spay looses its almond scent does that mean that it has gone bad?

So many questions, sorry! Hopefully someone can give me some ideas.

Thanks.

Personally speaking, yes, I have had probs with Creative polish drying, especially the pearl shades. . . creasing or denting hours afterwards. It was for this reason I changed to OPI.

I believe the solar spray/oil is fine even after it has lost its smell.

I have to admit I do too. I cannot fathom what I am doing wrong. I start with sticky, two thin coats of colour, shiney, then after alloted time, solar speed spray. I put my colours (NFS) on before 8 last night, went to bed about 12 but lights out at 1 and woke up this morning, yet again, with sheet imprints. It was dry, I sorted my son out in his bed and covered him, got ready for bed, no problems. Then woke up with sheet prints on my nails. It happens a lot but only with the pearly and glittery colours. I used to use my EzBond before polish and now use Mundo's nail plate cleanser so I'm sure its not residual oils on the nail plate.

Ironically the first time I used Voodoo I had trouble getting it coat evenly and ended up with 3 coats and it didn't happen. Lasted for days. Lush actually, took over from Cran'o'berry as my favourite polish.

Thanks for answering my questions...I just don't understand why this is happening? I have invested enough into my polishes and I personally love Creative. I unfortunately will probably have to change to something else.

Pedicure season is here and I can't have this problem again. Blossom mentioned the pearl shades...just the pearl shades? I do believe this was a pearl colour I used.

Also does anyone use Drip Dry from OPI? I have heard of this and was told it was great?

Anyhow off to work I'll check in later. Thanks again and nice chatting.

Ahhh! Another client with messed up nails! Polished her nails at about 10:30am and just called at 6:30pm to tell me that she put shoes on and assumed that they were dry. Of course they weren't and they are all smudged so she is coming over to have them fixed.

I am not happy with Creative polishes anymore. This shade was a nice red shimmer.

She just came over, mostly dry but it could leave creases or dents still. Only the Big toes needed a polish change. Either way should the polish not have been dry by now?

I've used Drip Dry and I (and my clients) really like it.

I just recently discovered CND's Air Dry. I can polish my nails at night, put on a coat of Air Dry, wake up in the a.m. and, 'look ma, no sheet marks'. HTH!

Yes the polish should have been dry.

One of the most important things in the clients point of view is how quickly the polish dries; especially on toes that are squeezed back into shoes shortly after the treatment.
No matter how gorgeous Creative colours are or how lovely they're to apply, the fact is that they dry far too slowly to use in a professional treatment.
And yes, I know that dozens of geeks are going to jump on me because of saying this.. But I know dozens also agree with me, I'm just the one that dares to say it out loud.

I just wanted to say thanks for your message and to ask you what polish do you use for your clients?

I'm off to hit the pillow, I'll check back in the morning.
Thanks again.

I don't know, but do you guys apply your layers thin enough? I use creative too and don't have any probs. I use sticky base coat sparingly, two thin layers of cnd polish, speedy topcoat and go over it with solar oil spray.
I tell them to sit between 5 to 10 min. after it is done and no probs for me.

Before changing brand of enamel I would seriously look at my application!
I have never had problems with my CND enamel drying, simply becasue I got my application good! I followed Geeg's tutorial on here for Prescision Polishing, and I dont suffer any problems!

Youve got to make it clear to your clients aswell that the enamel wont dry instantly, its paint, it takes time!

I apply my enamel in 2 thin layers, leaving a good 5 minutes drying time after each coat, then another 5-10 before I apply my top coat, speed spray and lashings of solar oil and away!

My query is not with regard to CND enamel, but a generalized one as I too was having problems with other brands of polish. Do busy techs really have time to allow enamel to dry between applications?

I can understand allowing enamel to set on one hand whilst you paint the other before going back with the second coat, but waiting 5 minutes here and there adds loads of time to the treatment.

Good advice haylz....but only if you have the time.
In a salon situation you just don't have 20 minutes to apply enamel on a client.

On one hand it does seem like a frustrating waste of time, but, I guess its all about doing the job properly. I wouldn't be happy if a professional didn't do my 'job' of any kind properly because he/she didn't want to allow enough time. I would expect them to schedule it in.

I too, leave a good 5 minuters in between layers (However i don't use CND enamel but find this best with any range)....I use this time to explain firstly the after care, to book their bext appointment (I get them to pay and get their diary out first) and thirdly, if needs be, start tidying up.

I have painted my toenails twice this week,
The first time I used strawberry smoothie and ooooo i forgot the name of the white, its like a shimmery white !

I applied speedy and solar oil...
previous I had done all cuticle work, removed shine etc..and applied base coat.

when I woke in the morning and went to the school I came home and my toenails had smudged.
Next night I removed it all thinking I had applied to thickly,
And re-did them using my favourites, beau and creme puff...
Made sure that I did nice thin layers of beau with only 1 layer of creme puff on the free edge,
used dry and shine and solar oil to speed up drying process...
didn't go to bed for about an hour after that,
and still my enamel had smudged after I went to the school the next morning,

It's only on my big toes though...

I was going to give up and do a french overlay, But now I'm not I am going to continue practicing until I get it right lol...
I am wondering if although it seems long enough I am leaving inbetween layers I am actually not,

once i am done doing one layer on the second hand and i go back to the first hand the layer of polish is touch dry. I actually never leave an additional 5 min. in between every layer either

Just to say, referring back to my own post, the only time I had to apply more than 2 thin coats was for CND's Voodoo, that took three to get it even but it dried and looked great until I removed it. Some of my other CND colours I apply 1 thin coat of Sticky, two thin coats of colour and a coat of Shiny followed by the Speed Spray. I usually apply my colour early evening or in the afternoon and I still got sheet marks. They aren't bad and this week with NFS (I love that colour) I just reapplied a coat of top coat after my shower in the morning and it looked fine. It used to happen with some of the CND colours Anne Vera used on my nails too, not all, just some, hours later I'd catch a nail against something and it would 'push' the polish.

I don't think this is unique to CND colours though and I also don't think its down to my application, if it was I'd think I would have issues every time I applied it.

I agee with what you have said and my application is:

-After pedi I buff and wipe with polish remover to prep the nails.
-Thin coat of Sticky.
-2 thin coats of Polish.
-Thin coat of Super Shiny.
-Spray Solar Spray after 1 minute.

I try to pace myself when polishing, but time is a factor. I mentioned that my Solar Spray had lost its scent and was curious whether it had a shelf life. At the moment it is about 5-6 months old. My polishes are between 5 months to 2 1/2 years old, the older polishes are not thick at all and have not been thinned.

This afternoon I have bought the "Air Dry" to try and have bought "Drip Dry".
Later I'm going to paint my toes and see how it goes.

I really LOVE Creative and would hate to switch, but I need to fix my bugs.
Thanks for the advice, check in later...

me to first i use Stickey, right after 2 layers of colors and the Super Shiney, i wait 2 min, then spray with Solar Speedy Spray, i then let the client sit and wait 5 min. wile i clean up, and then spray a second time, and off the go, never ever had any problems, i tell the client that the polish is not completly dry and that they should be aware of what they are doing with there hands in the next hour :)

You are all right with regards to the time factor, in a busy salon you wont have time, nor should you have to wait for the enamel to dry! This has always worked for me, I book out enough time for each client!

I should imagine it is frustrating though!

Not really sure what Id suggest, dont some guys say that OPI is very fast drying? I guess you could try that and see if you have better results! Its odd though, as I have never really had a problem with drying time with a CND enamel!

xxxxxx

Surely you cannot think that this is a CND enamel problem? I use CND enamels, I dont allow drying time in between coats, and my enamel dries quickly enough for salon use. It's a professional product, so to say that its not suitable for salon use is ludicrous.

I know lots have said you have problems with drying time, and this might lead you to think it must be the enamel at fault, but I along with hundreds others have absolutely no problem using this brand, so the problem must lie elsewhere.

I was going out last night, I did stickey, 2 consecutive coats of Rock Royalty, one coat of air dry. This was at 4pm, and by 6pm when I was going out my nails were dry, not just touch dry, they were durable dry. I always warn my clients that for 2 hours after application the enamel will only be touch dry, and I have never had any complaints, and my clients generally come back for their rebalance with the enamel in tact that I applied.
