Hello geeks, well this week I have been snowed in (im mobile). Where I live is a realy small town more like a village and obviously the country and side roads have not been gritted so I cant get out to do clients and they cant get to me. I feel gutted I know that every one is suffering I should be happy becuse im home and well, but business wise it sucks. How have you guys coped, I think I need to plan better for if this happens again in the future.xxxx

It cost us thousands in cancellations this week. The snow here really isn't too bad and all the roads apart from side roads are clear. I think the media overhyped it, telling people not to go out. We set aside cash from christmas to cover January, so we can still afford wages etc. Noticed this morning that the snow in my garden is starting to melt a bit. fingers x

No, I don't think the media did hype it up for the North East, we have had it really bad since before christmas.
I have had to cancel the past week's appointments as was not risking life and limb.

I am supposed to be working tomorrow, it snowed all of yesterday but hasn't snowed in the night so if it doesn't snow tonight I will go, I will contact my students first to see if they are OK for it.

Effectively, I've had one week's unpaid leave, it sucks but I keep money back all year for emergencies like this.

Essex certainly dosent get it as bad as you other poor people, but for us, it has been terrible. I work from my cabin in garden, so havent had to go anywhere, but clients have still had to drive out. Thursday was the worst day for me, everyone canceled except 1. I do love the snow, but its robbing us all!

Hi hun

It's spoiling my January too as I can't get to work and kids are off school so been stuck in all week with them.

I just hope this big storm thats coming doesn't hinder me more I'm going nuts lol

Hope it gets better for you next week hun

:)

What frustrates me the most is all that hard earned extra cash ,doing extra hours working yourself into the ground before xmas all just seems a waste of time now,as at the moment its completly the opposite.

I totally agree with you and all that extra money has been wasted on buying more supplies because of the weather

I only worked Monday and Friday last week. The rest of the week all my clients cancelled. I am home based and like others had children at home because of school closures. There is nothing we can do about it so we used the time well, did lots and lots of FREE sledging and caught on my accounts. Making the best of a bad situation and I have to say I have enjoyed it.

I agree. What you seen on the news really was how it was happening in the north east

This week i saw about 4 clients the rest cancelled it was soooooo bad here.. I dont mind at all actually its the next few weeks im dreading as i have had to fit everyone in that cancelled so im choca til Feb! x

So far only 1 cancelation for me so not to bad i was lucky as this week must of my clients were mon and tues and we didnt get snow here till weds and thankfully its now going so hopefully next week will be business as usual!!:green:

All of us are aware that Scotland and the North have been properly snowed in. London tonight program has been giving increasingly hysterical warnings about "the big freeze" as it got down to minus 2 just outside London. We genuinely have only had about an inch of snow, and the centre of London is pretty much clear. All the supermarkets got stripped bare tho. Looking out of my office window at home, I can see bits of my lawn again where the snow has melted. Our local news programs are still advising people not to go out tho, which is a bit odd.

Our week has been terrible. We have had so many cancellations. I have had 2 staff take some early holiday days. But as these are paid holidays and hardly any money coming in, less than half of normal takings:(
With the shorter weeks in December/New year then it is not a good time to be losing money. Business is tough enough these days without freaky weather killing it too!

we have had numerous cancelations, and it was a nightmare getting to work.I went into work tues (before the snow)and was off wed and thurs as I couldnt get to work, fri I worked til 3 then had a lift home as again I am completely snowed in...and out:)

It is starting to thaw but lets get this into perspective...it doesnt happen that often down here thank goodness.I pity the northern areas but I think they tend to be better prepared than us further south. As for the media hyping it up,nope it was as bad as they said.

Got to add here, I am just at the end of the Met line (Watford) which is the tube which goes into London. The snow here has been terrible, and still is - cant manage to to upload pic. We have had at least 7 inches of snow and the pavements and roads are still deadly. I have loads of friends who are snowed in, a couple have lost power another cannot get an oil delivery to her house. Until yesterday I could not get over to my Mums near Amersham because the main dual carriage way was closed as dangerous and impassable. Still have to park my car and walk for 15 mins to get there.

I have had two clients in my first week back at work the rest were all cancellations.

It is a problem as this month my expenditure is massive, along with accountancy bills, tax, etc etc I also have a lot of personal things to pay for including a huge dentist bill  BUT all of the clients that cancelled are regulars so if they are not in this week it will be the minute the snow clears.

The main roads here are ok its just side roads that are bad plus the paths are now all slushy which is even worse that the snow.
