I've done a few eyebrow waxes since qualifying and the majority have been fine. However, I waxed my sisters the other week and waxed the skin off from under one brow. I was horrified!! I used warm wax at the correct temperature etc, I think I did everything correct so I don't understand why this happened. I waxed my own brows yesterday and same thing under one brow but I didn't notice it until this morning. I'm really confused. Can anyone advise as I don't want this happening to anyone else! Thanks in advance. PGx

Did you put a thin layer of oil on the skin? Did you hold it taught? Also I find hot wax is more gentle.

Same here, I find the hot wax does a better brow waxing treatment.

I remember this happened to me when 1st qualified 14 years ago. Did you wax the Brow area more than once ? As this will always remove some of the skin & it is sore when it happens. I never go over the same area twice if few eyebrows left just tweezer them out instead. Also can happen if client has got dry skin.

Hi, thanks so much for your replies! I did hold the skin taught but I've never been trained to use oil. What kind of oil do you mean? And I've never been trained to use hot wax on the face-I use it on underarms and bikini though. Should I be trained to use hot wax on the face even though I know how to use it elsewhere? I actually prefer using hot wax. I also did wax twice but thought that was ok if using warm wax?? This is just a thought but regardless of training is this industry a bit of a "suck it and see" industry ie what works for one person/one product etc won't always suit someone/something else??

I love this site though-what a God send! Thanks again. PGx

Hi this can sometimes happen if your client is taking steroidal medication, is dehydrated, is using a hydroxy acid eye cream or moisturiser, had a sun bed, had a shower or heat treatment exfoliated all sorts of reasons.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem when I first started waxing eyebrows and it only ever happened on one eyebrow! I had the same clients it happened to and those it didnt, I tried everything, holding taught, using oil, never waxing over the same area twice, changing the way I was positioned, I even went back to the college I trained at for advice and then after posting several times on here I changed to hot wax and it has never happened since, even those clients with super sensitive skin it never happens to! x

Use oil and hot wax and you'll be fine as the wax only sticks to the hair and not the skin. You always run the risk of skinning with warm wax. Good luck!

Always check if your client has had a recent skin treatment or using products containing AHA's as this sensitises the skin.

I use a tiny amount of oil and hot wax.
Also check the skin products you client uses, as some products can cause skin to become very sensitive. x

On the face you shouldn't go over the area twice, this will be what caused it. I use Peron Rigot euroblond hot wax (as do a lot of geeks) which is applied in the direction of hair growth unlike the traditional hot wax. I use a thin layer of their Jasmine oil. You can use any light oil though but make sure to not use too much or the wax won't stick. Practice on yourself. You should be able to pick it up through experimenting but there are Free discovery days with Peron Rigot

Sorry to take over your post, but do u apply the oil before the wax??
Thanks

Yep, cleanse as normal then apply a thin layer of oil, blot with a tissue if necessary, then apply the wax.

I questioned this when starting as it seemed totally against what is normally taught, but it works a like a dream!

Thanks, it just seems strange to do it, can this be done for all areas?? What's the benefit :)

using the oil protects the skin so therefore your less likely to take the skin off which can be easily done on sensitive skin xx

Thanks for all the advice! I'm a bit confused though (its easy done!). Whenever I'm using hot wax I cleanse the area and apply talc-I presume this step is not applicable on the face or when using oil under the wax? Do I need a specialist hot wax suitable for the face or can I use any good hot wax? Argh-so many questions!!! PGx

You still cleanse the area to be waxed but instead of using the talc use the oil instead, but just a small amount, I have used different hot waxes but I have found Peron Rigot euroblond is the best for me x

Oil is only used with hot wax but as you used warm wax and went over the area twice, there's the problem. Warm wax can only be used once whereas hot wax can be used more than once. I do prefer hot wax on the underarm and bikini like yourself, but on the face isn't really cost effective

I use oil under hot wax and warm wax, never had any problems with this but as Rubytues says going over the same area twice with warm wax especially on the face is never a good idea but you learn from your mistakes x

Rubytues & katty-thanks again for the replies. I'm going to look into getting/using some oil. I'm concerned however as I was trained that I could use warm wax twice on the same area but hot wax was NEVER to be applied a second time. Can someone clear this up please as I'm becoming more confused-lol!!
