How do I know?

Hiya

Ok, here goes, butterflies time!

I finally got the money I need to do my Creative course (yippee!) BUT how do I know I'm going to be any good????

I am creative, I make and sell my own jewellery, but how did you know it was for you?

I'm probably just being silly and letting the nerves get the better of me because it's not just talk anymore, I actually have enough money to do this, but I had to ask!

it is the same with anything in life,
how did you know you would be any good at making jewelery, bet you didn't until you gave it a try,
you say you are creative so that is a big start,
are you interested in nails and helping everyone to have the perfect looking set of nails,
are you interested in learning something new,
are you interested in the art side of things concerning nails,
do you believe in yourself,
do you enjoy talking to people and meeting new people,
are you good with people,
are you good at problem solving,
just a few things to think about hun :hug:

I doubt that any of us went into nail school being able to create perfect set of nails. You won't be any different (unless you have simply mad talent! It HAS happened, but it's rare. ), but as long as you have the desire and the drive, you will LEARN how to be the best nail artist you can be. And I think if you're already of a creative bent, then you'll do fine--perfectionists do well in this field, I reckon!

Just do it!

It's a lot of work, and more practise than you can imagine. But, we've all survived, and you will too.

PS Those butterlies are normal, they just tell you that you are stepping outside your comfort zone, and life is all about growing, isn't it?

I KNEW!!

Right from the first time I ever saw someone apply a set of nails, I knew I would be able to do it. I never thought I would be perfect right from the start, but I knew with practise I would be. In fact I never once contemplated that I wouldn't be able to do it. Why are you??

I would say, don't have expectations that nails is an easy option or that you will be perfect from day 1. SOME can master the art VERY quickly, but there is allot more to being successful in nails than just doing good nails.

Personality ... business head ... customer service ... artistic ability ... drive .. ambition ... if even one or two of these things is missing, then you can really struggle in this business.

I agree with Gigi - it really does take a combination of things.

Having had a business before, that side of things wasn't a problem to me and I have always been good with people. I struggled to attain nail skills - despite an artistic flair and dextrous hands, but got there in the end.

I have known others who were really good at nails right from the start but still couldn't make a business out of it because they couldn't handle the clients right, or couldn't market themselves correctly or just lacked the grit required when times got tough.

This business is no different to any other - it is tough to get any business off the ground, you do have to examine yourself carefully before you start.

Yes, I love the looks you can give with a set of beautiful nails. I see ladies who have acrylics and they seem to have a different 'air'. Does that make sense?!

Definately, I'm 'into' learning, I love it!

Yes, some of these nails are sooo inspiring (although I would need A LOT of practise for that!)

A definate yes! Maybe I have too much confidence in some areas sometimes though and come across a bit brash

I am a social butterfly, lol! :green:

I think so and tend to get on with pretty much everyone I meet

Most of the time, it's sometimes just logic. And I feel I have excellent customer service skills, you need that in the line of work I am in at the moment!

I have to say I felt exactly the same way when I had my first set of acrylics applied.

I think it's the fact I have had to wait so long to get the money to actually do something about it, and now I have it, it's real and has got a bit scary and has given me butterflies knowing it's going to be so soon!

I know I won't be perfect. I think that's a given for anything new (apart from The Few!) but this will give me a real opportunity to do something I love and turn it into something great! :green:

As Saucygirl said, I'm stepping out of my comfort zone which is hard for anyone but hey, I'm here, got my money, just waiting for course dates to come through and weyhey! off I go on my lifelong learning!

I think I was really asking for reassurance that this is the right thing to do and it's a definate, resounding YES!!!!!!

Heya huni, I just wanted to say i must admit its very hard within this line of work and holding a bussiness together all by yourself and being able to satisfy customers you get some lovely people nice and easy and you can come across those that are rather hard to please no matter what you do.But i can tell you one thing you will be SOO proud of yourself to achieve all of this and i shall say thats your drive itself!! I am highly proud of myself didnt think i can do all this and hold it together but i have and the feeling is just priceless!! Go for it girl you will be fine :hug:

I finnished my course in july last year... lost my previous job, single parent, nothing to do, nothing to eat... so I decided - I have to do this the best I can. Please all you geeks don't be mad at me for saying this, but I did not have the time to master my skils before going out and charge for it... I HAD to and WANTED to do it at once. Of course, you cannot do it at once without practice, my nails werent perfect, far from it, surely i'm not saying that my work is perfect now... some were good, some were less good, but I endured and kept practicing and kept my first clients till now, and the client base is growing, now i have 50 regulars and it pays my bills. and i'm still learning.

:hug: Well done you hun for going and getting what you needed . A lot in your situation would probably still be in that situation now, but you had the determination and grit to do something about it and that's all the inspiration I need.
