when you are using a coloured glitter e.g purple how do you get a nice sharp/crisp smile line?
do you put something underneath?
i really want to do some purple glitter tips but im not sure how to go about it to get a nice deep colour if that makes sense.
please help as im stuck ive just had a go on a tip but you can still see through the glitter if that makes sense am i putting enough on?

I use pink powder with glitter, clear seems to make the glitter look cloudy? I also work a bit wetter aswell, I find it really helps to get a crisp smile. Nail Graphix are amazing to work with, and then I always cap so I dont file away any glitter!

hth's xxx:hug:

thanks for that.xx
i was going to try and use gel.i did a glitter nail thats in my album but to help get a nice crisp line i used brush on white gel as the glitter was white.this was something emmsybabes did for one of her designs so im stuck as i dont have a purple gel.

is it for yourself or a client??

cos if for you - to get a really crisp smile line on myself with anything i apply to well-less tips first - then apply to a prepped nail and away you go!

you say the colour isnt dense enough - what ratio powder/glitter are you using? 1-3, 1-2 ?? just play around with it and see
good luck

Use clear gel and make sure you mix plenty in (I actually use my top coat for this as it is thinner)

For the smile line use a cocktail stick to gently push bits of glitter back into line.

Then apply sculpting clear over the top HTH

Sorry Tracey I didnt realise you were on about Gel, so I wouldve said exactly what Adele has said, cocktail sticks will come in really handy, you can get a lovely smile with the aid of one!

Good luck xxx

thanks for that, can i ask what you use to mix your glitter in?

you can buy really cheap little pots from places like nail order and that way if you have enough mixed up in a little sealable pot you can use it again on another client - that's what I do I love glitter I 99% of the time have glitter nails and I agree using a cocktail stick works the best - it is purely practice though!

thanks for kel i will have ago and see how it turns out.wish me luck.xx
anymore suggestions?

no probs hun! fingers crossed and I'm sure you will do fine!
just remember to put the gel in the pot first and then add the glitter bit by bit and test the consistancy - if you add loads of glitter and not enough gel it will be hard to apply and lumpy but if you don't add in enough glitter then it will be very hard to get a dense colour out of it - trial and error really!

good luck xx

It will have to be a pot used for Gel that you keep your mixes in otherwise it will just cure and go hard and you wont be able to use it again!

I dont bother, I mix to order, and I use a marble coaster and a cocktail stick!

I've always used normal pots (little ones about 45p each from nail order) and I found that as long as you stored in the same way you do your gel it won't cure - I've never had this problem and I have around 10 pre mixed glitters

just to say that i have had a go at doing a glitter tip with gel and i did this using my wrong hand.i have put it in my profile album.please tell me what you think.thanks.xx

wow you done a great job,
smile line is great and I love the colour

When I have my nail all shaped and buffed I apply a very thin layer of gel onto the free edge. Dab the glitter onto the wet gel (or dip into pot of glitter) I tidy up my smile line. Cure. Apply another thin layer just over the glitter. Cure. Buff then Topgloss.

Ive tried it otherways but im just too wasteful and a messy pup
