Hi geeks,

I don't feel like I'm practicing enough when it comes to nails. I'M doing barely one set a week (that's if I'm lucky) so far i have only done one set of natural nail overlay and one full set of nail enhancements. And the rest was on family members when i can get hold of them which isn't often.

I wanted to know how much was you practicing when you had recently qualified in nails? Do you think i need to practice more?

I charge next to nothing and clients still don't seem to book in.

Also another question on Ruth's salon guinea pig website do i charge the guinea pigs or give freebies to practice on?

Thanks

I did a set every day - on my nail trainer mostly, as I found it hard to get models.

When I first started, "I" was my best "practice on person". Today I am still my best model to practice and try out new techniques.

I have spent hours and hours practicing my nail skills, trying new techniques, and building on and perfecting the skills that I have. Even now, years down the track and with a successful business I still spend approx 3-5 hours per week "practicing".

If you don't feel as if you are practicing enough then the chances are you are not. I have found from experience that nails require a lot of productive practice and you really need to put in the yards to be able to produce consistantly good nails.

From the beginning I always charged my clients and as my skills increased so I raised my prices.

I practiced on myself most of the time and went straight into business and practiced on every client that came through the door.

I always charged (because they always went away looking nicely done. My time improved rapidly as soon as I was doing clients regularly (which was pretty much immediately).

I have never done work for free on anyone other than my daughter and myself. :green:

Why not practise on some tips, at least you can improve on your smile line that way.

For 8 months after my initial college training I practised on anything from sheets of paper for my white smiles, tips, my own nails & my hubby then I did a course with NSI and bought a nail trainer and was never off it. I still practise now when I have the time there is always something to perfect or a new technique to try out.
