I have a client booked in for tomorrow for an acrylic infill but i never done her full set. is it ok for me to do her infill even though its a different make of acrlic? also she has a polish on, is it better to remove this or just file off when doing the infill. i have problems with doing infills, they don't seem to blend after loads of filing so any tips would be grateful. xxx

Provided there is no major issues with lifting or discolouration, then it is OK to rebalance over another product. There could be a slight difference in colour of pink for example from product to product.

If there is a lot of service breakdown from the previous product then it will probably be quicker to soak off and redo.

I agree with Fiona, unless there is any problem with breakdown or too much lifting or discolouration I would go ahead and infill in the usual way. Also, as Fiona says, there may be a difference in the shade of pink so if you have a choice of pinks in your collection then try to match as quickly as possible.

With regards to you having difficulty with filing for infills then try filing just below the lifting line not on the lifting or above it as you will only end up with chasing the line further down the nail. If you file just below the line on the enhancement then the lifting will just fall off when you file far enough. As you get closer to the natural nail you can change to a higher grit to avoid damaging the natural nail.

I think there is a tutorial by Gigi on here somewhere regarding this. :D

I agree with the comments above, but would definitely remove the polish before you start with remover as opposed to filing it away, so you can easily see the state of the nail.

From past experience I now NEVER agree to do infills on someone elses work over the phone. I always request the client comes in to the salon for me to inspect before I will agree to do the treatment. Don't mean to sound snotty or like I turn people away but it's a little awkward if a client booked in for "gel infills" as they requested on the phone turns up with huge lumps of badly lifted, discoloured acylic hanging off the very end of their nails. If I have allowed myself time for an infill appointment this doesn't cover a soak off (if the product even CAN be soaked off- I don't work with buff off gels) and re-application. It is much easier for me if I can see the client first to book them in appropriately because I find people tend to lie (or just aren't aware) of the product on their nail, the condition it is in and how long ago they had it done.

I used to shy away from this sort of work until Gigi put me straight:twisted:
So remove polish have a good look at the nails, where/if there is lifting the original appex etc.
Then don't worry about the lifting. Shorten the nails to the clients desired length, bring your side walls in nice and straight. Then de bulk the appex, now look at that lifting again, you will find that most of it has gone already and for the rest, make sure as others have said that you work behind the lifted product otherwise the tiny vibrations of the file working on the lifted product will cause more to lift. If you work behind it you will see the lifted product flake away leaving a nice flush surface to work on.
Finally, pick up your brush and use beads half the size of the ones you would for a fresh set.
Just remember to talk with your mouth not with your hands, like I do:o take your time and try to sell them a bottle of cuticle oil, retail should be a big part of our business and it helps the customer to get into some good habits:hug:

What if the product they had on was mma,the reason i shy away from this.Doesn't this take ages to soak off if they are lifting badly. Can you tell by looking at them if they are mma?

No you cant tell.

If there is no lifting then it is probably better for the natural nail to rebalance these and let the old product grow out and with it the probably damaged nails.

Oh i see,it would be worse to soak off, better to leave the product on to protect the nail as the damage is alreay done,:suprised: thanks

Completly agree, and feel the same ,I ask them where they got them done first to get some idea want Im going to be facing, and say I need to see them first before I say yes, and then get them to sign a disclaimer to say I wont take any responsibility for any problems if the two products dont mix.

I never infill other peoples work, people new to me asking for infills always say they not happy with nails for some reason or another. I will always start with a new set when they come to me. Less hassle and happier clients!!!
