Hello all

This probably sounds a really dumb question, but I have a mens chest to wax and its my first one and im really quite scared!! Just wondering if you have any pointers as there is quite alot of hair and very long and tangled! Im not sure if i can see the direction of the hair as there is soooooo much. Should i trim it first? Im only used to doing legs\arms\bikini which so far have all been reasonably short compared to this.

Also, would it be best to use hot wax instead of strip wax? He says that whenever he has had it before he has had strip wax, so im thinking i should stick to that, but think hot wax may be better for such thick coarse hair.

Luckily its my brother in law so i think he will be understanding :D, but i really want to get it right.

If the hair is long then i would trim it first. Some of the men i've waxed will do this themselves at home beforehand, which saves the hairs going all over my room :D
If the chest is particularly hairy then do it in sections.
I do a line right down the middle of the chest with non-strip wax. I then do another line at the trouser-line, again with non-strip wax, which then gives me 2 sections either side to work on.
Just cover one complete side with strip wax and then remove and then do the other side. Pay particular attention to the direction of the hair growth and you'll be fine.
Chest waxes are one of my favourite waxes to do. Once you've done a couple, you'll realise how easy they are.
One of the guys on here had a diagram with the direction of hair growth hair. I can't remember if it was Matt or Jason :irked:
I will have a look and see if i can find it for you :D

Thank you so much, this is really helpfull :D

I'd just like to say that you shouldn't take any notice of diagrams (my pet hate) as all clients hair growth is different. Check the hair to see which way it's growing and wax accordingly. I specialise in mens waxing and wax men all day, (The Wax Queen) and I promise you that they are all different.

Hot wax is much better but it is an expensive option and if it was for a client and not your bro-in-law, you should charge 50% more as it will cost you a lot more and will take more time. The benefit of hot wax on the chest is that the skin doesn't become hot and red......much kinder. Having said that I generally use strip wax for all chest and abs waxing and hot wax on some parts that I think will make it more comfortable for the client.

Good luck xx

Dear Kim. I’m ever so sorry to have upset you (somehow!?!?),

The guides on my site were only designed to help those who've never met a gorilla before (male chest is Far more daunting than a lip, eyebrow or bikini) - and to therefore improve the experience for all our customers - not just the lucky few who come to see you!

I wax men (and a few ladies) all day long too - and I repeatedly hear horror stories from men who now see me after seeing badly trained or inexperienced therapists. Horror of horrors are the stories where badly trained or inexperienced therapists (mainly ladies by statistical demographic) who wax over and over the same area - not removing any hair at all 'cos they're stripping in the wrong direction, and then not applying proper timely pressure after the strips (or no strips) come off to relieve the discomfort. Ouch!

There must be something in the water near you (or perhaps it’s my local water?:)) – as apart from the odd swirl – all men’s torso hair growth does follow roughly the same pattern as the guides. I promise!

All pro waxers will know to study the client during cleanse and oil, and as the age old saying goes - a picture paints “a thousand words” - so I know that many more people don't have the same ‘pet hates’ as you. If you are hungry for experience then many people have told me that the 'guides' are really helpful.

To close, I'm always happy to recommend people to you for training. I'm confused by your words against trying to help the community of professionals. Confused, but sorry for whatever I’ve done all the same! I’m only a bloke after all!!!

Best, Jason. x

For someone who isn't that confident in male chest waxing, I think this guide would be extemely helpful.

After waxing many mens chests, I find the majority seem to follow a similar pattern to which the guide shows.

Once you have waxed a few very hairy chests, it all becomes very easy :)

Jason.......I can assure you that my comments were not directed at you personally and I've never seen your site but I've seen your tutorials on here and they're great. You're taking my comments personally.

My pet hates are diagrams of hair growth direction and that's why I don't have them in my manuals. Nothing personal to you I promise and I know you're passionate about waxing so please don't take offence.

As far as it being something in the water where I live......I doubt it as my clients travel hours to get to me so they are not from the same area.

Ask anyone I've trained and they'll tell you that I teach them all to look at the hair and it's direction as no two people are the same. I still stand by that and I know that to be a fact.

Love you and what you do Jason but I hate diagrams of hair growth. Sorry! Don't take it so personally
