I don't know if anyone else has spotted this but I thought I would share and get your opinions .

Today, the Sun, Page 37

'Set to be the trend this party season, Minx Gold Nails are proving popular with celebrities all over the world'........................brilliant

'ideally its best to have them applied at a salon as the finish will be faultless' .............................brilliant again

'Celebrity manicurist Zoe Pocock laumched minx in the UK'.................erghhhhh did she?????

'Zoe is bringing minx stickers to high street stores nationwide in December so you will also be able to apply them your self'............................???????

'Nails inc are slowly launching Minx nationwide (£30hands, £35 feet)'.....................

Ok don't really know what to think of all this really, I would have liked at least something that said contact sweetsquared for a list of therapists near you !!!!!

So what do you all think ???? Oh have an update, appararntly the 'minx' is not 'minx' I have scanned the article to SS

Ok Got a reply from SS re the above article and they are sorting it out. The 'sticker' is NOT MINX.

Let me know your thoughts anyway

Apparently Zoe is trying to knock off Minx to sell direct to the consumer. Minx are on it. Pretty disappointing really.

We hve something similar in the netherlands.
A company selling Blinx (looks a lot like minx).

minette

Isn't it?! I think it may be a 'done deal' but it's a rip off of Minx. From where I believe they will be selling they won't be reaching the people that would go to a salon to have it done anyway. Plus it will never be as good.

Blixz (or whatever) is a knock off and Minx are already working on that issue too.

@Mum - yup. Selling out on a rip off idea is generally not a good business venture and opens the door for a lot of serious problems. A wise man once taught me: You 'go out' on what you 'went in' on. ;)

Think its funny that all she could talk about was Minx

That article is very misleading then....cos reading it it mentions nothing about a "type" of minx...just Minx.....I hope this is another case of being mis-quoted and not facts as otherwise this will yet again be all about greed and getting your name in print.

I did a press day at Superdrugs last week and they were all fascinated with my minxed toes...then the brand manager tells me they are going to start selling minx in Superdrugs:eek: Well I put her straight! Minx are for professionals only and she says 'oh no not minx then blinx/blix' (I can never remember what they are called!):smack:So expect to see them soon.:irked:

This article is very misleading but remember the chemist sell, hair dyes, make up, false nails, fake tan, facial products, massage oil, false eye lashes and wax strips but it doesnt stop the clients coming to the salons, however surely minx can do something about the name being so similar.xxxxxx

I know that there is already Rio and Hair dye kits etc but it just pee's me off....cant we have anything these days. Makes it worse when its someone from our own industry doing it too....!

Well well well, "THAT'S:rolleyes: NICE" said in a very slow american accent lol,
what ever next?????? Minx is minx and no matter how much it is immitated, doing the talk is one thing, but can it walk the walk?????
They say immitation is the highest form of compliment...HMMMMMMMM:irked:

yeh it is a p+++ take surely though they cant recreate it how can they know what it is made of surely that is protected, also will the people be willing to fork out for a lamp, file, prep products etc on the high street??? xxxxxx

I don't think it is that sophisticated,I think its more of a peel and stick kind of product......you know the type, by the time you got it sussed you have only got one little sticker thingy left lol xxxx

Ouch. I'm a bit lost for words actually...... What is that old saying..... Oh yes, never mess on your own doorstep.

I'm really disappointed that someone 'within' is selling us all out :irked:

It really ticks me off when this happens :irked:

But I suppose it's to be expected that someone would try and rip off Minx.... it's the same when anything good comes out on the market.

Take Uggs for example and the cheap ones we can buy now in Primark for a few quid... but at the end of the day, they look cheap and you can tell they aren't Uggs a mile off.

Here in Ireland a large department store ripped off Karen Millen designs.
I had bought a lovely shirt and paid full wack for it, only to see it a few months later in this low cost store, I was so disgusted when people asked if I'd bought it there!!

Well alls well that ends well... it all went to court and Karen Millen won the case

Lets hope it'll be the same with Minx.

People would soon get upset if beauty salons shut down and gave up!
As a colour specialist hair salon, we battle daily with the aftermath of home dye attempts. As my nail techs are struggling to get to grips with minx, I can just imagine our cack handed clients! I hate to imagine where those "blinx" will end up......

Gob smacked cant believe that Zoe would do such a thing to the industry:rolleyes:

So if I follow the reasoning here - because Minx created a foil based decoration that only they should be allowed to produce this and not suffer competition? Does this argument also apply to stick on decals - after all they are sticky foil decoration just like Minx? Or nail polishes - after all, wouldn't life be grand if consumers were forced to come to our salons to have their nails painted? How about nail files?

Perhaps there should only be one gel or acrylic manufacturer too, or PC manufacturer or mobile telephone manufacturer? The argument is ridiculous.

I do agree that Blinkx or whatever it is called, does sound too similar to Minx. But have they actually copied designs, or created new ones that would give the market more choice?

Has anyone actually tested their product before they rubbish publicly? Nice. Lets kill the company before we know really what they offer.

We made a personal decision not to distribute Minx on the basis that anyone can use it - it requires minimum skill and therefore we perceived it would not be long before many salons offered it and the service price would drop due to competition (incidentally, a post here complained of exactly this last week). We were also very concerned about the risk of competitive products - albeit we were more worried about products from China than the Netherlands. (and don't assume all products from China are poor, your PC was probably produced there).

Who knows, getting Blinkx into the high streets may actually raise awareness among consumers for this type of product and actually encourage them to get Minx professionally applied at a nail salon near you.

I understand your loyalty to S2 and heaps of praise for them to have created this allegiance. But the market is the market and competition forces manufacturers and suppliers to be more creative (no pun intended) and not less. It's good for the customers, provides more choice and also brings prices down.

The only way that you as a nail technician will make more money longterm is to develop your expertise, make excellent nails faster and offer a terrific service. Anything that can be easily copied or is available quickly to your local competitive salons will never bring longterm value.

If you don't understand this or do something about it, I honestly believe that many of you won't be in business for very much longer. You have to offer something that is seen by your customers or potential customers that is different from low cost salons - and something that they can't easily do.

Thank you Bob, for that great thread. I've wanted to comment in this thread for ages but haven't because I'm afraid people would hate me!

"The only way that you as a nail technician will make more money longterm is to develop your expertise, make excellent nails faster and offer a terrific service. Anything that can be easily copied or is available quickly to your local competitive salons will never bring longterm value."

See, I really agree with this. I haven't tried Minx, but if it's so easy to apply like you say, then why should only professionals get to buy it? And if it's hard to do, then why do you only need the normal certificates (some kind of manicure certificate for example) to be able to buy them? If really only professionals were able to use them correctly, then why is there no special Minx certificate needed to buy them...?

To me it just seems like Sweetsquared and other companies that supply Minx want to have a monopoly on it, they do not want any competition which is silly and cowardly. Same with nail techs that offer Minx, they don't want their customers to be able to buy Minx and apply themselves because that means less business for them.

Just my two cents, don't kill me.
