hello

when you go to peoples homes do you request that all animals are removed from the area where you will be performing your treatment? or do you think their home their rules?

i'm asking because today i asked my dads ex wife if she would be a willing victim (haha:p) for me to practise my spray tanning on and then i remembered that she has like a million animals (including alotta baby kittens that of course attack/climb up everything and i had images of my tan tent being attacked by kittens! :| ) not just that they leave hairs and i don't want them all over my bag, tent and clothes.

whilst i'm asking you mobilers have you got any funny/odd/sticky situation tales to tell about going into peoples homes?

This is a tricky one! If there is a room in there house where you no the spray tans could be done you could then make sure that all animals are kept out of the room - the client should except you can't do your job properly if animals are climbing your tent lol. I completed a luxury manicure the other day and the lady had a dog i love dogs so i didn't mind. But some people don't like or are scared of animals so you could maybe inform the client when you walk in that it might be best to keep animals away for the time being hth

 xx

hello! thank you for your reply. i was so worried somebody would say i was a wicked witch for not loving animals lol but i did really did want an answer.

i said to dads ex wife 'i know you love your animals but please make sure they are not in the room if you want the tan just because i don't want them getting close/near the tan and getting poorly, plus i don't know how the spray tan vapours will effect animals' WTF spray tan vapours are i do not know! LMFAO. obviously i couldn't say that to clients as they will be thinking wtf have i got mixed in my tanning solution if it's not safe to be near their animals :\

another thing that worrys me is smoking, i personally don't smoke nor do i like the smell and would HATE to have to go to another clients house smelling of smoke (a few members of my family smoke and i've found that when i leave their house even if they haven't smoked when i've been there i seem to have a smoky smell on me when i leave)

i love animals but i understand that in certain treatments its best for them to not be around.

Haha, well i would say the same - its like spray hair spray though i wouldn't use it with my dog in the room :)

I don't really no what to say about smoking - i don't smoke and don't really like the smell but lots of my friends smoke so i have kinda got used to it. The smell will always be in someone house even if they aren't smoking when you are treating them so you can't get rid of the smell sorry hun :( - with spray tanning you wont be there long and during a relaxing treatment they will be to relax to think about smoking so it may just be when you are giving pedicures or manicures - but i'm unsure of what you can do. Some people may ask if you are ok if they light up you could maybe then say :) hth xx

This thread has made me realise how useless I would be if I worked mobile LOL  I'm severely allergic to animal hair (cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs - you name it my face will swell up if I get within 10 feet of one!) and I can't be around smokers because it sets my asthma off and within minutes I am wheezing and coughing! Better stick to working in spas I think! Although where I used to work a lady once brought a guide dog into the spa. I told my manager I couldn't do the treatment and she told me I had to because otherwise the client would sue for discrimination!! Well within minutes I was covered in hives, eyes streaming, chest tight and I was ill for days... so much for health and safety!!

Anyway I'm going off topic, but really I think it's entirely up to you if you don't want animals to be in the room when you're doing your treatments. I don't think many would object
xx

Just to add - I'm not allergic to hamsters or mice - hence the little hammy in my avatar pic :)

oh lord! i have images of somebody lay down having me put some lashes on them with a fagarette hanging out of their mouth! LMFAO omg haha :D

i will be offering to start with spray tanning and lashes whilst i'm doing full time beauty therapy and maybe part time hairdressing.

i'm hoping doing lashes and spray tanning will allow me to earn a bit extra aswell as get my name around, build up my reputation, build up my client base (aswell as mebbe find new victims to practise on! lol) so that when i have completed my courses the hard work will be done, if that makes sense? from my research lashes and tanning are some of the more popular treatments (along with waxing, but i don't want to pay for a private course as i will be doing that in the nvq anyway) and is mostly asked for on the weekends and evenings so i'm hoping it will all work out nicely though in real life it never does! LOL. i'm not sure if i'll be taking too much on especially as i have a young family but at the end of the day it is all the bennefit and enrich their lives.

i plan on wearing the vent. mask when i tan and of course you should wear the gloves... could you imagine how well it would go down if i turned up mask on, gloves on saying 'please remove your animals because i'm not sure how the 'spray vapour' will effect them but can YOU please stand almost nekkid in the tan tent please. thanks!' haha

HAHA! :D

Good luck with everything - hope everything goes well xx

I know it's really odd isn't it? I had to have tests at the hospital and they told me I was allergic to all kinds of things just by doing a skin prick test and from a blood test - things like Pampas Grass!! I've never been near it in my life LOL!
Not sure why hamsters are different to guinea pigs but they told me that the reason cat allergies cause a more severe reaction than say dog or rabbit allergies is because you are allergic to the saliva AND the hair and of course they lick themselves... I've always been awkward haha

I remember when I did mobile acrylic nails. The thing that used to bug me was the kids, not that I have anything against them, I have 2 of my own, but if mummy is sitting for over an hour gettin her nails done and princess wants to see what is going on, they want to climb over mummy, knocking her nails, whining, wanting some nail varnish on like mummy! with regards to the smoking I used to say that it would be best not to smoke until I had finished as I was unsure how the acrylic would react with the lit ***! most of them accepted this as a reason not to smoke during the treatment. with regards to your spray tanning, I would be tempted to ask the clients to keep their pets in another room and just tell them you have allergies.

I would definitly ask clients to put animals in another room for spray tanning, was at a lovely clients on thursday with the most gorgeous cat (Iwanted to take him home lol) she shut him out of the room while we did tan. As most animals are quite inquisitive about new people & things! They'd be in the tent or trying to play with your hose lol xx

I'd be inclined to cite "Health & Safety" as a perfectly valid reason as to why the client should keep all pets out of the treatment area.

Cats are very mobile creatures, for example... should they fancy attempting to jump on the spray tan tent, then that could mean nasty rips in the spray tan tent from the cat's claws - as well as the risk of nasty cat scratches to your client's skin too... if the tent moves due to the cat's weight and the cat ends up landing on your client (most cats are around 5 kg in weight, and pretty much any pop-up spray tan tent is going to give way with that sort of weight on it).

Then there's other nasty things that could happen, e.g. a cat (or a dog's tail) knocking over spray tan solution and making a mess on the client's carpet, for example.

Also, if an animal is in the room (e.g. a dog) during the spray tan, there's a chance they may get "spooked" by the sound of the spray tan machine, especially if they hate the sound of things like hoovers. If they want to run to "mummy" (who is in the spray tan tent being sprayed) for protection from the nasty noise, then they may well end up getting sprayed too, as well as making a mess of the client's nice new spray tan!!!

And as for doing waxing while there's animals around... well, you really wouldn't want a cat (or a big dog's tail) knocking over your wax pot - the least that would do is ruin the client's carpet... I'd hate to be the vet that had to get rid of all that sticky wax on the cat or dog's fur, and treat any burns underneath!!!

:D:oyour point about funny stories regarding animals,i did tan in clients home last week where they had a staffy after putting up my tent the dog decided to go to the corner to do its business ,didnt know ho was more embarest me or the owner ,she spent most of time scrubbing the carpet ,and it stunk lol xx

i can totally relate to this.. i was in a clients the other night doing her eyelashes.. i walked in and she has 6 dogs and 4 puppies and they were crawling all over her.. i kept saying could you please keep them down and one actually jumped up and put its paw in her face while i was doing eyelashes.. so from now on i am makin her come to me, as i cannot deal with that every 2nd week lol..

Definitely a health and safety issue with doing eyelashes too if there are dogs jumping up all the time... you need absolute concentration for eyelash extensions... and certainly don't want dogs pawing at your client's face during the procedure!!!

I can totally understand how not funny this was at the time, but reading your post has had me in stitches!!!!!!!!!

I hate children and other people's animals.
I just did a wedding makeup this morning in the bride's home, where there were two large dogs snuffling around my makeup, and a slightly...odd...13 year old boy peering into my kit saying "now, what's all this then?"
Acksherlly I'm not entirely sure why I do weddings. I like to concentrate when I'm working, and the constant interruptions about "Aunty Lily's forgotten her teeth, she can't be in the photos" and "Do you think it will be like Carrie and Big's wedding when he doesn't show up" leaving the bride hys-bloody-terical, render me almost incandescent with rage.
I'd tell your clients before you go all children and animals are to be kept away otherwise you will snarl at them.
That should do the trick.
