I have a dell pc and the monitor keeps going off...the green power light still remains on. To get the pic back i have to switch the power light off and back on again....then everything is ok for a few mins...then the screen just goes black again...i know that all the programs are still running as normal...its just the screen that goes off....not the comp.

any ideas...?

Hiya, are u sure the wires in the back of the monitor are in properly? This used to happen to me lots & i realised the wires in the back were a bit loose. If not then im not sure lol :S hths x x

lmfao!

Sometimes my screen (only occasionally tho) goes black...then comes back on by itself..no idea why!

Have you got a help line number you can ring for dell?

Sounds like it could be a Driver Issue, if you have Windows XP then try this and see if it works:

1. Start

2. My Computer

3. View System Information - A System Properties Window will appear

4. Click on Device Manager

5. In there you will see loads of Hardware with a little + to the left of each item.

6. On the one that says 'Monitors' Click the little + and the name of your Monitor should appear

7. On your Monitor name right click on it and a box will appear which says update driver.

8. Simply then update your Driver for your Monitor.

I had this problem a little while back and the above soon sorted it out.

Sorry, I should have said: Even though it may say that its always advisable to update any Driver anyway. The previous Driver maybe corrupted in some way, even though the search will tell you its there it will not tell you if there's something wrong with it.

If it ain't well then you have learnt something new today :)

It doesn't hurt to update any Driver, however as the saying go's....... if it's not broke, don't fix it or if you don't know what to do....... leave well alone lol

If it's not the graphics driver, then could it possibly be something up with the power management settings in control panel? Like turning the monitor off after too short a time out?

I used to have a Dell monitor did exactly the same thing, drove me mad, makes you jump cos youre not expecting it. I eventually got rid of it.

Just though I would mention it incase its a Dell thing.

Mmmmm its alot better than it was....so the driver thing worked but I have just switched my comp on for the first time today and its done it again....when it starts up its doing so with a black screen....but everything is working behind the scenes....so i had to switch the power off and on on my monitor to get enough time to restart and now it seems fine again....so it looks like its something to do with when i start the comp up.....

I looked around and found this hibernate thing in Power Options was switched on.....should it be...?

Everyone's monitor switches shuts down in hibernation mode. Switch it off and see how it go's, it won't hurt it.
